I AM STOKED...definitely my favorite time period out of all of them...
Supposedly it is going to be less about positioning and more about numbers and vulnerability/strengths. Hopefully they can pull it off.
Yes and yes. Here's hoping that the wardogs and flaming pigs are left at home this time.
Can't wait! Long wait but the prize!
They're targeting end of 2013, so you have at least 18 months to drool.
You have to admit they were funny though...and then there was the Briton head hurlers that threw heads which went off like hand grenades...
I can't say I'm surprised Rome 2 was there second project, but wow that does look and sound wonderful.
I hope they toss that infernal MP tactical only battle system they defiled Shogun 2 with.
Yes, but will there be space ships? If not, how are the romans gonna defend against the Vasari
Space Ponies
If they use 1% of the budget on AI this time, then we might actually have a game
I've found the AI to be quite good since Napoleon. It does have it's weaknesses, but what AI doesn't?
I especially like how the AI actually attacks you on the strategic map. Back during the otherwise excellent Medieval 2, you could just walk over Europe, avoiding enemy armies and taking undefended cities.
I was listening to an interview where one of the devs said its vital to gamers to be able to see individual faces on the soldiers...is this NVDIA or EA Sports talking or are they completely out of touch with "what gamers think is vital"? I'm worried we are going to get some flashy "visually revolutionary" game without solid strategy. Hopefully they also remember that TW:R included the whole family system which has been dumbed down or nonexistant in other TW games.
It's hard to piece togeather info so far, but they have said battles will be bigger with out saying how much bigger, Since Rome the size of battles have only increased marganaly, I can't play Naploelon total war, I just can't play a napoleonic battle with 2500 soldiers, which is bearly a brigade.
They have said that instead of just controling random units, you'll order complete and sevral legions around.
But what that means I have no idea, A roman legion consisted of 1200 skirmishes, 1200 Hastati, 1200 Pincipes and 600 Trairii pluss some 300 light or medium cav. Or about 4400 soldiers, that more then most Total war battles, and now they are saying we are gonna control sevral legions?
I highly doub't we get real legions, I think like 250 soldiers from each soldier type.
I hope they actualy use the right armors and shields ect. in the original rome, the principes and hastati and triarii just looke like later legionares.
It always starts with a heavily photoshopped dream that is never delivered I remember the trailer to the first Rome, a battle full of excellent animations that never appeared in the game
They have a terrific engine but always aim for too much Real Time spectacle and too little 'actual military tactics'.
The games are moddable, which is good because I hate to play them as shipped.
Key things they could work on would be to set an actual figure and ground scale, and then the battles would start to make sense.
And work on the AI. Then work on it some more.
