Dark Space
This is a total conversion mod, at the minute there are only two selectable races, but I plan to add two more.
1. The Humans
Take control of Humanity in the year 2210. Starting with basic Space travel technology, progressing through to advanced Battleships.
United Earth BattleShip with Earth and The International Space Station in the Background.
2. The Swarm
An insectoid race incapable of negotiations due to their highly aggressive nature, existing only to expand the Hive.
A Swarm Hive Ship
Features
-Unique Hyperspace travel for both races. Humans with consistent hyperspace speed but can improve through research. The Swarm are fast in gravity wells and between owned worlds but slow to enemy or unowned planets.-All new Abilities including - Nukes, Admiral on board, Mind control parasites and much more.-Massive map representing the Milky Way Galaxy with real star names and positions (well sort of!).-New Galactic wonders such as black holes, new stars, new worlds and worlds destroyed by a mysterious unknown force.-Realistic SOL system with Earth, Mars etc.-Massive gravity wells. Space is a big place after all.-Completely new Planet modules and all new ships. The vast majority are from NEXUS -THE JUPITER INCIDENT (a great game, I highly recommend it).-New sounds and music. The Swarm have all new sounds to give them a real alien insect feel.-A universe without Shields! -Antimatter replaced by Tactical Weapons for Humans! Abilities drain tactical weapon count, and can only be replaced at specially built resupply stations.-Completely new Research tree unique to each race. Humans can make vast technology jumps, while the Swarm improve and expand the Hive.-NO ERRORS!!!! I've spent days hunting down and correcting the error messages that pop up in the dev. This mod is error free!
This MOD is for Rebellion and is still very much a work in progress. Gameplay is still being balanced and new features are being added on a regular basis. Any constructive criticism or feedback is welcome.

I used Gamefront for a while, then Iskatu mentioned Mega, which seems to work rather well and doesn't have as many problems.
I feel that the Swarm are a bit OP but other than that great mod love it! any news or progress so far on the next version?
I agree the Swarm are a bit too powerful at the minute. The next version is well underway. I really like the ideas that have been suggested and agree with the feedback so I'm taking nearly all of it on board and making changes.
The Humans:
One of the main changes is the re-organisation of the Humans technology. I'm sticking to my original idea of having them progress through space travel technology, starting with access to basic shuttles, then moving on to crude military ships, then becoming more advanced. The Mars rebels idea has been shelved for the time being, until the Trigger function is available then I'll look at having them appear at the right time.
They're getting some new weapons that should give them more of a chance against the Swarm, such as lasers etc.
The planetary tactical slots are being changed to allow only certain planets to build shipyards, giving them higher strategic value. The structures are getting higher slot values making placement of them much more important and stopping spam building. Ship slot numbers are being changed to reflect the type of ship.
The Swarm:
Not much happening at the minute with them. They're getting a few new structures and the Hive mind ability is being scaled back from certain structures. This means that certain structures are crucial for faster Swarm Space travel, making for a nice target if you're attacking them.
The Galaxy:
I've got a few ideas for smaller scenario based maps and I'm still looking to add loads of random and interesting bits to the huge Galaxy map to make space exploration more exciting. Has anyone found the wormhole to the alien worlds in the current release?
This might be unrelated to the mod itself but I am having significant performance issues after 4 or 5 planets are colonized.
My educated guess would be
size of the map (Milkiway Galaxy)
Amount of small ships build by the AI.
The game slows down like a 4000 fleet supply late game bomber slugfest.
That's not good after only 4 or 5 planets. You're the first person to raise this problem.
I've ran a few games for hours and the only slight lag I get is when a huge swarm fleet is in combat with either the Gorg or Humans. My computer specs aren't that good either, I've haven't upgraded anything in years. I run the game with all detail levels set to medium, low shadow detail and minimum exhaust detail. Obviously your settings will very much depend on how good your computer is.
The only thing I can think to help you is the basic stuff, sorry if it's "teaching you to suck eggs", turn off all other programs running in the background, keep settings to low etc.
The smaller scenario based maps in the next release should solve this problem for you if that doesn't resolve it. Just out of interest what are your computer specs?
Work continues on my mod.
I've spent a lot of time trying to balance out the factions and reducing the size of fleets to make the game run smoother.
The Humans are getting most of my attention, with a complete overhaul of their technology. They now start with a basic shuttle and have to research new ship designs to gain access to more advanced ships.
Here's a quick preview of four United Earth ships, the Destroyer, the Cruiser, the Cruiser Mk2 and a Battleship. These ships all have rotating sections (thanks to TobiWahn Kenobi and his Babylon 5 mod for providing me with the know how) and represent the earliest form of Human militarized space craft. Sorry about the quality of the video but I was only using FRAPS.
The Skybox Background in the some of the scenes is from Axel's Infinite Space Mod. I'm still waiting to hear from him if I can use it in the next release. So it's possible that it won't be included.
Make that two persons.
And nice video.
ARESIV, I am making an attempt to reduce any lag later in the game by scaling down the fleet sizes, replacing some ships and structures with smaller mesh files and by modifying the planet and structure slot counts to stop spam building. You're still the only person to report such a lag very early on the game though, who is the second person? What are both of your computer specs? If it's obviously your specs then there's not a lot I can do about that but if it's the mod I can try and solve the problem.
I've got permission from Valpheus to use his Autocannon sound mod, https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/448230/page/1/#3397954. This is going to be added to all of the United Earth ships and defence platforms.
OMG.... I just quoted my own post without noticing the post was from me....
One person then....
Main processor: Core2Duo @2400 Mhz nominal, @3000 MHZ actual
Main memory: 4 GB
Video card: HD 4870
Operating system: Win XP
Performance in Sins Rebellion: Good
Performance in Sins Rebellion with other Mods: Good
That should improve performance, thank you.
Ha, no problem mate. I thought you had a friend who was having the same problem.
It's obviously not your computer because your specs are better than mine. The next release will run much smoother. I've just play tested a game for a few hours and it runs much better.
I'm just experimenting with a new idea. The humans don't get any astronaut constructors automatically spawned. They have to be deployed from certain structures/ships and can only exist in space for a set period of time. This is meant to represent that building structures in space is a tough and difficult thing to do. I know that the AI will throw a fit over this if it's playing as the humans but it could be resolved by having the autocast ability for deploying astronauts turned on. I've already got it working for the player and it adds a sense of realism to building orbital structures.
I've also added an ability to some of the early human ships which disables their hyperspace ability. This represents early human spacecraft that don't have to ability to move too far from their home. They are confined to the gravity well where they are created.
I'd appreciate any comments on these ideas and any perceived problems and solutions!
Your current download link is broken.
Just takes me the main page of the website.
I also can not see anything other than the filedropper upload page from the link at the bottom of the OP.
my guess would be either 1)filedropper DROPPED the file or 2) there is a filename changed update and the old file version was intentionally deleted, but my suspect is #1
harpo
I'll have a look at it later today. Hopefully I can find a permanent home for the download link this time! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
possibles are wincustomise (but zip only) dropbox (but limited download volume before paused for 3 days), file factory (but slow downloads and ADDS).
there are also other possible sites, but do not know of them, so can not suggest
Consider Mega.
https://mega.co.nz/
No registration, fast speed and lot of space.
Thanks Aresiv, I'lll have a look at mega. I've tried those ones harpo and experienced problems.
Anyway, I don't want this to turn into a "best upload site thread"!
Any thoughts on my ideas mentioned above about the astronauts?
Another update, I've changed the research field, you now research a company which unlocks ships/structures etc. For example, researching StarLink industries unlocks several structures which improve hyperspace travel. I've slowed down the Gorg and reduced the size of their raiding fleets. I'm starting work on new Swarm structures and all new abilities.
EDIT:
I've decided not to update the download link for the alpha version. Work is well underway for the Beta 0.1 release which includes all the above mentioned updates.
The alpha version was released to attract feedback and ideas. It's done it's job and given me a lot of good ideas. I want to spend my time updating and improving my mod rather than constantly uploading an alpha version. Thanks for the advice on the upload sites, I'll use them for the beta release soon!
hows the mod going mostly, haven't heard any thing for a while ? if so i can offer help if need be.
Work continues at a good pace. I'm away from home for the next few weeks for work so there will be a lull in progress. I'll have to pay some attention to the wife and kids when I get home so don't expect any update or release till after the new year.
I don't need any help thanks. I've updated all the files to version 1.80. Loads of new ships and extras have been added. Existing ships have been improved. A new Milky Way map has been created with jump points added, making the fortification of certain planets of more strategic importance.
ok cheers for the update looking forward for release
the download link is down
is there a place where i can download the mod?
I'll be releasing the beta version in the next 3 weeks. I'm going to set up a post on ModDB as a permanent home for any download links.
The beta version is a massive improvement on the alpha version. Watch this space for a release date 😉
Fantastic news! I've been meaning to have a another go on your beta since I've had my new laptop
hows to release going. Cannot play the mod as it is not compatible with 1.80, so thats a bummer.
Will be around mid February. I've got some more work to do with the Swarm but it's all coming along nicely.
would you like me to make a 1.80 patch for the alpha for other people to play while you make the beta?
