I must be missing something. I have the full suite of the original games and the only thing I see different are a few new ships, a couple new research things and that is about it.
I am EXTREMELY disappointed in what I got. The original three games together had most of the same features seen in this version..
This could have EASILY been a simple DLC or add-on to the original three. Diplomacy is the same, ships are the same (other than a few new ones), bugs or features not working right in the originals do seem to work in this version.
This was NOT worth buying as a brand new title, no freaking way.
Now if you can truly point out something major that is NOT in the previous three games (i.e. main game and the two full expansions) then I will retract what I am saying.. But so far I see NOTHING that is dramatically different at all.
Again, look at it from this point... Yes, some new ships. A few new enhancements to research. Titans. A few other small things I see so far. But what makes this version all that that so many seem to be raving about?
Truly.. what am I missing here that makes this worth a full blown new game purchase and not an expansion or DLC?
sorry that u are disappointed! this is a STAND ALONE expansion not sins2! hope you still enjoy playing it tho!
mahalo
Join the club. I just play MP but the MP community is just being ignored because the majority plays SP (apparently). Why bother putting it on it then...

''You may wonder why I haven’t mentioned the multiplayer yet – to be honest there’s no need. It’s the part of the game that’s changed the least overall, because it doesn’t really need to. You just play a match like you normally would locally, except open it up to other players across the internet, much like any Paradox internal title actually, just without the reliance so much on direct IP connections. Interestingly enough, when we spoke to one of the Ironclad leads when we were previewing the game he mentioned that their data suggested a lot of people didn’t bother with multiplayer anyway.''
Well nobody bothers because the devs cant find a right balance in this game! Even with all the threads!
There are usually 400-500 players in MP now since Rebellion released. I wouldn't say that "nobody bothers". Those numbers are pretty good for this game - I think using Steam helped those numbers as by its nature it is oriented towards assisting MP and most people I know on Steam play the MP aspect of games if there is one. I think the devs aimed too low for this game's MP personally. I'm hoping a good % of those new players stick around...
well. there apperently is still content on the way.
Yarlen said they were working on a map pack, for starters. who knows what else could be down the line.
Advertisement and forum posts made it extremely clear what this expansion would contain and what it wouldn't. Learn your lesson and have at least some clue as to what you are buying in future.
The new techs, ships and victory conditions greatly change the way this game is played and open up totally different strategies. Destroying planets, phase jumping SBs, cap ships serving as labs etc. are techs that are completely unlike anything from the original game. The number of techs is an unimportant detail, for the changes are far reaching.
A balance patch is being made right now. And some suggestions have already been implemented such as the increase to the Coronata's conversion chance. The reason why balance issues exist at all is because many additions simply alter game play too much.
Malakie, this was marketed as a standalone expansion to try to bring in new people. That said, the "few" additions it does have dramatically change the metagame. If you want a stupidly large amount of new content, you didn't get that. What you will get is a significant change to metagame which if you ask me is better.
I'm glad to hear about the map pack. I was kind of staring at the map screen going "40 dollars for this and they didn't even toss a premade Huge map?". At least I failed to find anything beyond Large. I can forge my own maps of course.
Personally from the reviews I knew I wasn't getting a lot of new content or an extreme graphics overhaul. As others have said game play changed (I tend to play TEC, so the two starbases per well is fun). The game is stable, it survives me constantly ALT+TABing out, and it is fairly polished. So I'm not complaining and I'll get my 40 dollars worth out of it.
I agree though that this is a glorified expansion for those of us that had all the previous expansion packs. My economic strategy is barely changed. Research order changed a bit. Military of course changed with corvette spamming Still though the developers need to make payroll and I do want them to stay in business. That being said now that they're hopefully flush with cash from all the sales, I'm hoping for some more content via update.
The only real thing that was a letdown were the Titans to me. Mine feels like a glorified support ship. When my friend dropping his fleet in my twin star bases plus bomber swarm from the hangar defenses tore the fleet up and held off the Titan long enough for my own ships to jump in and finish the job. Hangar defense + repair platforms + starbases (with docking stations) still appears to create that lovely circle of everyone repairs everyone and nothing dies. Of course maybe we haven't figured out how to use the Titans yet.
Which is why the devs gave us a $10 discount.
More like you haven't truly seen its potential. The TL titan is a wall that repairs itself and helps protect others. If you want a DPS monster go TR.
That's odd about the discount, I didn't actually get one or even have Steam alert me I had a shot at getting one.
Yeah Steam doesn't give it to you. You have to buy through Sins.

The price / to content issue could be debated.( I'm ok with it).
But not knowing what your buying in 2012 with all the information you could ever want at your fingertips, is just lazy.
I am very satisfied with Rebellion. Stardock did exactly what they said they were going to do. That this would be a Stand Alone Expansion. They enhanced the graphic engine which improved the appearance of the game greatly, They gave us new factions, New research, and some New Ships. It may not be a lot of new ships, but those new ships changed dramatically how you play the game. Sure there are some MP balance issues, but they ARE working on it.
If you bought Rebellion blindly expecting a totally new, and different game from Trinity, and didn't get it. Then that is your own fault. Rebellion is an Expansion that Adds On to Sins. Like Entrenchment, and Diplomacy did before it. The only difference is that it is Standalone (You dont need Trinity to run Rebellion). The Dev's had all this information posted since Rebellion was first announced. Sorry for those that are not happy, but you should have checked things out first before you blindly jumped in.
Could not agree more =]. As a previous owner of Trinity I played that game for over 100 hours, upon hearing of rebellion I ordered instantly. I was playing a SP game last night and I love the Advent and I usually only play AL so I decided to switch to AR. Even though they are both advent I sucked as AR! The strategies are entirely different, I was like a fish out of water lmao, that being said I do not understand why people say it isn't different enough, yes it may appear the same but this game has a far reaching depth to it and the strategic options available surpass trinity many times over
I guess the fact I got no discount because I went through steam is an issue. Paying $40 to me is for buying a new game, not an enhanced version of and existing game. I have been playing and the strategies I used before work now just the same. Titans, in my opinion, are useless as I seem to have no problem taking them out with a standard fleet. They die pretty easily. I would think Titans would be something hard to kill, about like a starbase and would have a huge number of heavy weapons as well as point defense.
No matter, I will have to read the fine print next time. My mistake. As for the rebate offer, I have no intention of installing another client and thus if Stardock is really sincere they should offer the rebate to all of us who did buy but from another source. Although I really dislike any client including Steam, I am forced to use it for titles I do want. I have a bunch of friends that still cannot play anything new for the most part however since they do not have internet connections in the rural areas here. Which is where I am as well. For now I use my cellphone to connect then go offline to play for the most part.
So installing another client is not going to happen.. one is enough.
how long those 400-500 are going to be around? After a while it'll dump into the toilet where it was before Rebellion Beta started. There is a reason there is nothing on the site that shows how many are playing MP or per day -it's depressing. Just what are the numbers?Steam... nm, gonna resist typing. MP is undeveloped compared to other older games and SP is ... well, modders had to find a way to cheat the idiot AI to research. This might eventually benefit even MP bot bashes until the Ai isn't Forrest Gump taking a try a peeling a banana while building a cold fusion reactor using nothing but said banana and an ice cream maker.
If you bought Rebellion on the website at the discounted rate, you would have been given a CD key and instructions to use it to activate the game on Steam.
Trolololololo....
I am extremely disappointed with Rebellion....
First, let's start with the terrible engine and graphics...oooooooo, new pretty effects...shadows...solar flares...effects that take up the entire gravity well...BAH, it is NOTHING...hell, I don't even play with a monitor most of the time so I can't even see these piddly little "improvements"...
Then, we have the "gameplay" changes. Titans? BORING...who wants a ship with big guns, awesome abilities, and is the size of a moon? I SURE DON'T....oh and then there's apparently these "tech tree" changes that add stupid boring lame stuff like phase jumping starbases, culture spawning planets, alliances with pirates, and the ability to have an entirely mobile empire. Lame, LAME, LAME...hell I already had an empire without planets in some of my ICO Trinity games, what do I need this expansion for????
And on top of all that, no one plays Rebellion anyway...sometimes, I have to wait 10 minutes to get enough people to fill my meager 5v5...that's ten minutes I could have spent doing something better, like Internet Spades, or circle jerk, or ranting on forums...
And finally, Rebellion added all these new options for modders...wtf, really? No one uses mods these days, and I hear all the modders are a bunch of tools anyway so really, this is more of a degression than anything else...
So in conclusion, I think that Unity Mass on the coronata should do chaining damage (where the number of chained targets is affected by the number of nearby ships) and Chastic Burst should do less damage but have an interesting debuff....
DEVS, PLEASE ADD A "BEATING A DEAD HORSE" AND "BROKEN RECORD" DIGICON
Also add some new fucking forum sections because you added a new game and areas that have been and still are 'trinity' are getting bogged to hell with rebellion stuff.
You are such a drama king... queen... Drama Thing. Good thing Rebellion had so many mods to gather nifty ideas from.
Game sure has some nice graphics... which is like saying, "She's got nice tits, but is a total bitch to get along with."
Nice tits don't make for a great lifetime together anymore than shiny new shaders and some stuff that is still a work in progress.
Just to be a dick... Unity Mass is fine and Chastic Burst needs more umph.
It was to bring new players in. Only reason I'm playing the game currently... I had purchased the original Sins at release but couldn't get into it. This was a perfect opportunity and I'm really glad I did... I love it!
I bought it to support further efforts, really. But imagine the excitement of the guy who never played SINs and buys this baby.
