With one of the recent release builds of Rebellion, support for map version 3, which did not have the forced moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius inserts, was cut. I feel that this lack of support takes much away from making maps.
As version 4 does not allow for the various Random objects to have an moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius based off the entity of whatever spawns, taking away an additional form of chance or "randomness". For example, if one puts a WeightedRandom in a map, regardless of spawns, such as an Ice planet or a Dead Asteroid, they will have the same movement area. Plus, nor does it allow, for modders, the ability to put in suns of various sizes with different areas of movement.
Due to these, however futile it may be, I request that either map version 4 has some sort of option to let the moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius be left blank or allow for a wildcard symbol (aka. the game loads these values from the planet/star's entity file as in the past), or that map version 3 support be re-added.

We will update the game so it will no longer load outdated map versions.
Sounds like the devs aren't changing anything at all, just going to do a rudimentary check for the versionNumber and if it isn't 4 it doesn't get loaded.
Depending on how that goes, this might make things worse, as it might actually force the insertion of moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius values, versus the game just loading them with the dev exe throwing a pointless fit. Ah well, at least there is some sort of answer, even if inconclusive.

only as far as the no longer crashing when attempting to read old maps issue, but regarding the other issues then bump away.
I didn't get crashes from old maps, that is when everything but moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius were added, though that issue was not the reason for making this thread. Bumped this thread shall be!

harpo, is 1.04 live yet? If so, do you know what changes SD has done? Asking as I don't have access to my main comp which has updated Sins on it. Edit: Or rather, if anyone can see if Sins can load this map. This map will throw errors, but if it loads, it means SD hasn't made any new map breaking changes.
the map gives six errors on loading from the galaxyforge folder, but it did load and all of the maps I had converted to mapversion 4 in the past also loaded with just the usual errors regarding the rebel spawns.
