Therefore I'm out of this forum. There are maybe 4-5 active posters on this forum who know anything about balance. Now minus 1. You clearly don't want any advice or discussion on balancing, because you are doing great job yourselves. Keep it up!
Bye Bye
Just because he's actually being reasonable doesn't make me jealous.
Someone better go give that forum a warning that a bridge is coming over there with it underlying trolls...
Keep in mind a few things. Making patches cost money and balancing isn't as easy as some claim it is. One change here could result in some new exploit in an area you never would have thought would be connected. You think it is bad now, if every suggestion was implemented, MP or SP recommended aside, we'd have some seriously f'd up balance. What time can be spent on a patch is probably limited and if they choose not to address the balance issue you're specifically passionate about, well then that is life. You don't get want you want all the time, I know I don't. This is just a game and you could be worse off.
That was sort of my point. There was a real problem back then and one side handled it by ranting and the other by doing something productive and civil. The end result was his effort helped--the side of the gripers did not.
Not the same issue here but the same approach needed--make thoughtful and polite points and maybe you will get some notice from the right place.
Next time you try to disagree with me though I am going to hurt you.
If you play MP then there's a cost associated with tweaking the game. Each MP mod out there breaks up the pool of available players and reduces the number of opponents you can play against. That's not counting the sizable percentage of people who won't install a mod in the first place.
I only play SP, but I can see the sense in gearing a game for MP and letting us work on the great opportunities, instead of the other way around.
Coders do everything, because everyone at a small software company does a little bit of coding. Because if you don't do the coding, you have to do the testing.

I doubt it would break the MP scene anymore than it current is. In theory yes it could. If say there was a few rebalance mods made and played.
But getting the really competitive crowd together to agree on a mod...they could get exactly the balance they want.
I only suggest this as I have for a long time b/c the Devs dont work at the pace the MP expects. Or does things they really want. etc etc.
B/c after all they are making their game as they want. If they want huge imbalances. So be it. It seems silly if you want a somewhat even playing field for competitive play. And it maybe wrong to make a game like that but if they want to, they are going to.
Making an "Official Competitive MP Mod" would allow those who play the game that way to get their better balance, faster. Even allow them to add maps designed just for their level of gameplay and what ever else they can want.
Maybe in the end they wont need it, much like the TSOP isnt really needed right now, but if nothing it gives them the chance to play their way, while maybe showing anyone important what the MP crowd is looking for.

Oh the wit...
Imagine a game where 3 distinct races fight to build galactic empires? Now picture 2 races who are competent in resource extraction and enhancing there trade networks but also picture 1 race that uniquely tries to weaken the other empires trade network. This one race is called the advent and with there starbase culture influence technology they use it to spread around the solar system as they dampen planetary allegiance values which reduces the amount of income there enemies are able to generate. This in term forces the enemy to adopt culture defensive strategies that linger away from trade networking.
As a result the advent are able to level the playing field mid game as they push on their enemies front line with culture ehanced military abilities. The first single deployment of an advent starbase with culture tech versus a single opponent usually signals that the economies are on equal playing field. Which is bad for the other 2 races whose military isn't as pontent in abilities, antimatter and fire-power. Advent fighting in their culture are much more powerful offensively and defensively.
The initial strategies of starbase rushing are used by 2 factions--vasari for assault and advent for eco-military balancing. Executing such strategies requires precise timing and an already established defence such as shield bowel and repair bays. This tactic puts off early invaders who want to snipe the starbase.
Its more likely that the advent are weak in economy just like how they can weaken their enemies economy but tales such as this have only been told to scare children..you never actually see an advent player with over 50% damage bonus to all ships and 20% phase missle block with mitigation bonuses. No one has had the opportunity to meet such a fore---until now
