I've been wanting to play GalCiv II and SoaSE again, but don't want to reinstall Impulse. I'm a bit out of the loop, but I remember hearing that SD was putting out a SDC or similar low key updater so I don't have to deal with Gamestop or Impulse ever again.
Did that ever happen, or am I stuck using Impulse still?
There is but I cannot recall what the exact link is.
If you have GC2 Ultimate and/or Sins Trinity you can download them from store.stardock.com or via SDC. For the rest, if you already have them registered in Impulse you'll need to continue using it for the time being. We're working to expand the availability of the older SKUs as SDC is further developed.
Thanks for the link, works like a charm for Trinity, as well as GalCiv I and Demigod - although I'm sure I'll never feel the urge to reinstall that.
Is there a way to convert my GalCiv II collection into an "Ultimate" key? It would be nice to be rewarded after buying the Collector's Edition base game and pre-ordering each expansion.
Short of that, is there an estimated timeframe for the rest of the catalog to be available? Or at the very least a good place to watch for updates to the program?
Yes, thanks for the link, Kryo; and thanks for the encouraging news that you are working to expand the catalog (of already purchased games) to be available through: store.stardock.com ...
Now for a pitch: Galactic Civilizations II Gold Edition (includes Dread Lords, and Dark Avatar) is the one that I would like to "pry out of the cold dead hands" of Gamestop/Impulse . Any chance this will be soon? Frankly, I don't see why this isn't the same as GC2 Ultimate ... or is it ? Thanks!
Gold edition includes the first expansion pack. The ultimate edition includes both expansion packs.
Well, the key difference would be the Twilight of Arnor expansion, as dlcooper pointed out. I own everything in the Ultimate Edition already, however cannot play any of the games since I refuse to use Impulse any longer. Thus, in my eyes, I am being punished for being a long time fan in lieu of a late adopter.
- However, while I don't recommend this en mass, and I especially don't recommend it to anyone who doesn't own the the base game and both expansions, I sent Stardock Support a kind e-mail explaining my grievances with Gamestop, my love for GalCiv II, and my humble request to have my GC2 collection be swapped for an Ultimate Key.
While I do have complaints against Stardock after Elemental and Demigod, I have never thought malicious or anti-consumer thoughts to have been behind their shortcomings.
The support team graciously swapped out my 3 separate purchases for a copy of the Ultimate Edition which is currently downloading at about 2.5 MB/sec. Now I'll just have to dust off my old self written modding guides for the game those old saved ship designs out of mothball.
So kudos to Stardock Support, and a public thank you for being the company you have a reputation for being.
Thanks for the additional information, Kodiak888 (and dlcooper too). In addition, it was great to read how you got your own personal situation sorted out Kodiak888. Congratulations to you; and Kudos to Stardock; for treating you, as you deserved to be treated! Nice outcome, all around ...
With regard to my own situation, I really can wait for a while. I am plenty busy now; so I am content to wait for a longer-term solution, just so long as I can look forward to it, eventually.
But again, it is encouraging to read how you and Stardock turned your circumstances into a Win-Win situation. Thanks for sharing !
