The aero option is still available in this just-released build. But the 'intel' is it won't be in any further beta (if there is one) and not in the
RTM and retail versions. That means, as far as I'm concerned, WinBlinds is back in the loop (I lived without it on WN7.) I like aero - turn it
off and you'll see what I mean. Bland. There will be many, especially those using Metro on phones and pads, who won't want it. I can see
the reason for that. A flat look on those devices could be preferable. But a little eye candy on a PC and notebook is pleasant. So I'm all
for a new Win 8 version of WindowBlinds (the current/latest version is 'not compatible'. I know, I tried it.)
Stardock, I hope you're on the ball..
I have full confidence in Stardock.
Neil Banfield -The evil genius behind all of the black magic Stardock produces is working his ass off with his magic wand on f´ing fire to get the Beta out on WindowBlinds for Windows 8 so......
If ANYONE can do it, it´s him & if it takes some time even for Him.... Well you get it.
-keep easy folks.
Y'all do know what a JAFO is, right? ... Well, at least back when I was in the army it stood for "Just Another F***in' Observer" --- I could be wrong though and he spoofed it from some other place. lol
considering for how long I have been a Stardock customer makes me shiver realizing how geriatric I must be ..
but my mole-like eyes are still good enough to see that the 8-UI is pretty ugly ..
So yes, Stardock, here's another old-time customer who will again invest right away into your company once WB 8 is birthed.
GO STARDOCK GO !!
In Jafo's case, it stands for 'Just Another F**kin' Oldie'
Yup, Jafo's so old, Noah employed his architectural services for house building after the flood.
Well wait 'til ya put yer glasses on, then. It's a fast and solid OS under the covers... is great to use, n' all, but it could use some Stardock TLC with WB8.
Many are awaiting the birth of WB8... but I heard it has grown considerably and may have to be delivered by Caesarian Section.
Yes, I know what 'JAFO' is....and even know what 'Y'all' is, too.
A hint. I have been a Comms/Observer with the FIA and FIM and prior with CAMS ...since...about 1975. I am the longest-serving 'JAFO' still currently both with the FIA and in Australia.
...and the Avatar [which I drew] is tattooed on my left shoulder.
And while we're on acronyms....'FIA' is Federation Internationale Automobile .....[it's French] ...
BTW...this is technically within the Support forum so ideally shouldn't go off-topic, but in this case the topic is really about waiting-for-Windowblinds-Eight ....
So this thread will become very long indeed
nice one
can`t wait for windowblind 8 to come out
cheers
Can't wait guys miss windowblinds
hopefully Windowblinds 8 will be available soon.
quote Stardock:
"Information about trial versions of WindowBlinds that are compatible with Windows 8 will be available at a later time."

Is there something there that needs clarification?
Yeah, when's supper ready?
Hope it's not too much longer... my stomach's growling like my throat's been cut,
So, I don't often come across people in my neck of the woods who are right into customisation, but I was in a PC store today talking with one of the techies and he was full of praise for Start8, decor8 and ModernMix. He too is anxiously awaiting WB 8 and hopes it is released soon because, like me, he has a library of new skins he's just itching to apply.
It's not often I get to chat face to face with anyone who shares my interest for decorating the desktop, but we had a great conversation and when I told him that Kitty Malone/Vampothika used to live just up the road at Lowood and that I'd met her a couple of times, he was like so jealous because she is one of his all time favourite skinners.
It's not my regular PC store, but I can see myself going back there more often now I've made some new friends. Yeah, 3 mates got together to buy the business from a former employer, and they're nice blokes to boot, so I will be giving them some of my custom to help out.
Oh, and the reason I went in there was to get a good price on a wireless keyboard and mouse combo so we can navigate the net and perform searches via the browser on our media player. Yup, now we'll be able to view WC in full HD on our 55" TV, hehe...
Because of the 'clunkiness' of 8 you will likely be meeting more such like-minded....rather than less...
Retrofitting the blinds to work with WB8 won't be easy. The 'clunkiness' will still be part of the deal, or Stardock has rewrite the whole sublayer and incorporate it in WB as MS takes pieces out of till all traces of aero are gone.
Windows 8 needs Windowsblinds more than any previous version of the OS. Oh and if you can make Start8 skinable with it that would be great.
I really can't wait for WindowsBlinds8 because I have never seen anything skinned differently before on a Windows Machine or knew that it was possible from easy-to-use software until I became a customer of Stardock after hearing about Start8.
Now, Stardock does indeed release WindowsBlinds8 soon, will it also be supported for the upcoming Windows Blue operating system this year because, technically, there isn't too much dramatic change compared to the jump from XP to Vista? Or some major change from 7 to 8?
I sure hope it doesn't... that means more waiting for us and we all know Windows 8 is becoming the next Windows Vista soon after Blue is released to the public... and hopefully including that built-in start menu again....
I recently purchased Start8 and I am very happy with the positive changes it made within the Windows 8 environment. But as many others have stated here, I am way past ready to purchase WindowBlinds! One of the other forum users recently gave an excellent description of Windows 8; its' a "cement slab" - What were the development engineers at Microsoft thinking?! For pity's sake, not everyone uses Windows on a mobile/portable devise - I just don't get it!
Anyway, the Stardock development team have definitely taken on the roll of super heroes - please keep-up the great work you are doing!
There, fixed it for you
And whose fault is that? YOURS! If you'd been doing your job, millions of Australians would be happily using ODNT... so many, folks would think Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Perth were names of Detroit suburbs.
So get cracking, starkers!
Is there an update from Stardock on the progress of Windowblinds 8? It's almost May. I would think this is their biggest product. I would like to hear what kind of progress is being made. I've been a customer for many years, and haven't had any product to purchase since I switched to 8. Thanks.
Although new to the forums, I like most have been with Stardock since the beginning with WB version 2. Windows 8 has many strong points and also weak points. Like anything new, there is a learning curve. They are also competing with the Android OS market that is growing in leaps and bounds and threatens to be the look and feel of the future (a future where desktop and laptops are not the dominate force. Look at sales figures and what people are using).
Now, having said that, I would like WB 8 as much as the next guy. But for now, I am using a modifier to change the look (think UX Style Core beta and msstyle files). For the time being, that is what I have been using with no problems.
Everyone's thinking is a bit skewed on this topic. First is getting hooks deep into the os to change the look and feel of the new ui. But WB 8 isn't the final solution. Now Stardock has to revamp Skin Studio so that all the skinners can start doing blinds for all us users. Skinning is going to be a slow process. I have tried my hand at skinning and it is not easy. Even at DeviantArt the visual styles are far and few between.
That said, patience is a virtue. Enjoy what you can do now with Windows 8. I like quicker boot ups and shut downs, start page or Start8, quicker file transfers, better support for my 64-bit programs and faster refresh times (I do some programing, photography and web site development).
It's all about choices. I like choices. That is one of the reasons we ALL like Stardock or we wouldn't be on this forum.
Windows 7 is slated to be supported til 2020. If you like 7, stay with it. If not, upgrade or try Linux flavors. Choices!
Got entirely tired of waiting on Stardock for Win-Blinds 8. I found other software (3) that work great and completely return the Start Menu, WinFlip, Aero and Curved edges transparency anf blur to Windows 8 themes. Because it seems like Startdock isen't going to release Winblinds for windows 8 I wanted something to fill the MS screwup and now I have it and now I definitely won't be buying any Stardock crap ever again!
BTW all 3 pieces of software are entirely free!
Someone here did say be patient (good things come to those who wait) and it's all free, and sorry it was 4 pieces of software when I considered I got the Vista/Windows 7 Sidebar and gadgets back too!
