Charybdis was the codename for the Vorastra! The whirlpool is it's maw.
Why's that funny? I opened Notepad++ and loaded the .exe into it and did ctrl+F for those things. True, when dealing with a binary file, you'll get mostly garbage when converted back to ASCII, but since it is likely that any hints would be stored as a string which is not going to get garbled when compiled. As a result, a search really wasn't that strange of an idea.
Also, for the record, I have done this with 0.96 and I've still not found anything.
My thoughts on the Rebels? Viciously overpowered. I can stop anyone phasejumping to my planets whilst sending starbases to attack them.
Ill try loyalists later on.
@MayallCommunion: The String for the Victory Tech is interesting...
I don't think that has anything to do with their pursuers. It just says that they figure out matter replication.
@Volt_Cruelerz: Yes, they figure out Matter Replication, and they use it to "move on and escape the great enemy"
Okay.. What's your point? They escape. That says nothing about what the enemy is.
My point is that it is a hint. I think that the wording on it sorta rules out a natural phenomanon, and lends credence to the "Vasari unleashed super-nanites and couldn't control them" theory.
Some of the Vasari Rebels tech branch names need some changing to suit them more IMO.
How about Oppression --> Cooperation or Collaboration (if possible) and...
Manipulation --> Alliance?
And maybe change the names of some of the techs in the oppression part like from "enslaved labor" to "joint efforts" or something like that?
The Vasari rebels need a complete overhaul of their tech trees in order for them to be more suited for the lore of this faction. A others have stated enslaved labor is still available, and the descriptions for their culture tech need to be changed as well. Since the VRs are cooperating with the other races it is no longer acceptable to oppress the populations on their planets. Also I am kinda disappointed at the lack of new techs dealing with this new found cooperation, yes there are some awesome ones but I had thought there would be more. In general they just need a new "flavor" upgrade for this faction.
I agree that the Vasari Rebels needs extended revisions. Has no new upgrades in Empire tree and those oppresion things makes no sense with their multicultural thinking.
Is it me or are the Vasari titans kind of weaker compared to TEC and Advent titans, survivability and especially firepower wise? I could hardly kill much with the Vasari titan soloing fleets whereas with TEC/Advent titans they can hold their own very well.
I stick them up with a fleet, but i realize most of the dmg/kills are from the escorts and not the titan itself. Kinda leads me into thinking Vasari titans are more of a support role, not meant for decimating fleets, even if they are escorted with a fleet. With Vorastra going guerilla/hit and run tactics and Kultorask, i dunno what the hell i can do with it.
Another thing i realize is that their weapons are evenly spread out 360 around the titan(much like the Coronata titan), so i literally have to throw the titan into the thick of the battle to fully utilize all its weapons systems. Kinda gay when its squishy and has slow move speed(although Vorastra has teleport but i find myself using it shortly after dropping into the battle).
Sorry, im just your average player(a.k.a noob hahaha) so i cant find a suitable playstyle for Vasari titans... Bugs me a lot since i was really looking forward to Vasari, now it feels lackluster...
Hi All
Thought I'd jump in and add my two cents worth, I started on the original Sins and was gifted Trinity and now Rebellion. I always thought sins was a great game and was very impressed with how well Trinity and now Rebellion have been executed. I play with a friend so I've been giving Vasari Rebels a whirl and after an easy start its been a hard slog so far. Loving the Titan, corvette seems to be a bit meh and jumping Orkulus has been a godsend in this match,
Is it just me or are structures somewhat harder to destroy now? I've been operating a bare bones fleet, my cap ships and my titan seperately and have been stuck trying to wipe out and capture a planet. It seems to take ages to destroy structures, especially for the Titan.
One comment I would have to the developers is to clarify some of the ability descriptions, I've been getting hit with lots of capital ships and it took ages to workout that the reason Dissever wasn't helping is because it doesn't affect Capital ships. I think the same applies to the gravity ability?
Grand Admiral
One of the strange thing is the Vasari Rebels. They now got a major phase missile damage update tech.
Though the importance of phase missile is weakened (if I'm correct, fighters in Diplomacy were still using phase missiles), but giving such a major update will only encourage players to build more bombers IMO.
i'm loving the loyalists right now for 3 reasons
1. The titan's ability to support any planet or fleet with a phase stabilizer in a matter of seconds (drop node, blink to edge of well, go) and eat an entire fleet of frigates makes defending planets so easy
2. The fact that they can function with no planets also means that when you can function without planets but have planets, your resource production is overpowered. I am out resourcing every civilization and have nothing left to spend my money on and i am stuck with 5 planets.
2.5 the mix of 1 and 2 means you can get massive amounts of planets to get even more ridiculous amounts of money
3. the ability to strip planets and your opponent can't do anything about it means an enemy who overpowers you is still helpless.
step 1: fly in titan to clear out fleet defenses
step 2: drop phase stabilizer
step 3: bring in fleet of 40 planet attack ships and a colony capital ship to reduce the planet to nothing and take it (who cares if you can't defend it)
step 4: ??? strip planet
step 5: profit
...
step 6: laugh as your opponent takes back their Terran planet that was filled with research stations, only to find a dead asteroid
I haven't gotten around to the Loyalists yet, still playing around with the Rebellions (and seeing what the opponent factions are like)...All I know right now is that Corvettes are fun, they're like little flies buzzing about in battle.
And I just got the Starbase mobilization research in my game...I KNOW I'm gonna enjoy that. Probably add that to my reasons why I love the Vasari in the first place. Others being Wreckage Auto-Salvage and Reintegration. (I know I'm probably missing another one)
Vasari Loyalists need to be able to eat a planet without taking control of it. As it is now, mobile doesn't stand a chance because of it.
Played a couple games with both. Here's what I've found:
Rebels: The moving starbases being totally OP aside, their titan is very strong and they have some decent techs for multiplayer games. They also get a huge late game phase missile damage bonus as well as shields on par with Advent. Their unique techs don't push them into any particular strategy like some of the new factions do, so you just have the power of Visari backed by some strong new bonuses.
Loyalists: They...didn't think Strip to the core out very well. Push button, receive tons of money! It's not like you have to give all your planets up, you can do it to worlds you really didn't plan on keeping anyhow. They get a huge eco boost from cap ships as well, seeing as they will eventually have the equivalent of two trade ports and four labs on them for free. That's 24 logistical slots per cap of free stuff. Economy still not good enough? Okay late game we get tons of free ships and caps at the push of a button. I do like how they've tried to push their other weapon types with the loyalists though. Their titan is the worst at the moment, hands down. Just has no firepower.
Summary for this patch: Shock and awe, Visari is stupidly OP. All experienced players saw this coming a mile away. And the game is released in three weeks. Ironclad has some serious work ahead of them.
Bad troll.

hopefully theres a patch today
I played around whit the loyalist and I feel like I need to keep planets for diplamacy and artifacts, kinda ruins the point of going mobile when you have to run back to defend your own planets.
I just do comp stomps so hard to say how things are against players but I like it alot so far, appart from thoes 2 things.
If you strip a planet with an artifact, apparently, you keep the artifact.
That is good to know I was holding onto a planet because I didn't want to lose the artifact lol.
Are you sure? I actually watched for this when I ate a planet with the Phase Jump artifact in my last game and as soon as the strip effect took place, the artifact was greyed out with a message saying I'd lost the planet that carried the artifact.
I didn't try this with an artifact-bearing asteroid (reducing it to an asteroid belt) though so perhaps that's a different story.
Idk. I'm just repeating here what someone else said. Apparently they did keep it. Idk.
