So turn 24, computer has agro'd some trolls that have attack 120, oh look straight to my main city, game over.
Im playing on normal and this seems to be the general trend. Also not happy about how you cant place cities in any spot, nor am I happy with the fact that the computer can scout you completely, it should be that you should put an open boarders like civ. currently they just walts right through you're territory and late game this can get quiet annoying trying to keep track of everything.
Further to this you cant even build a second city for fear of getting attacked by assassin demons. This game just isnt fun for me. Im trying to like it but its just not living up to what I expected.
I have been wondering about them. They have never attacked me when I've played a Kingdom. Twice they have attacked me, and it was when I was playing a Death caster. But lets face it. If they attack before turn 20 or so, only amazing luck, or a specific build will save you.
The inspiration for this game, Master of Magic was notoriously hard in the beginning, and you had to wait many turns before building/summoning enough troops to take over a node since your magic had a 50% fizzle rate when fighting on a node. Patience and planning were key to winning MoM, and I suspect that it will be true of the final version of FE as well. I have started approx 20 games of the FE Beta under .912, .913 and .914 and my only real complaint has been echoed by many here, that the MOBS don't go after the AI players as they do the human player.
I know what he means by city locations.
So basically you end up with a 12 square bare area between two cities if they are in the right position. If you can only see eight squares past your city, it will appear there is no location to buiild, but there was. You just can not see the city stopping you from building in that location.
As for the super monsters. I perfectly agree. There is many occaisions where the monsters are an extreme problem to building any additional cities. It can be avoided by epxloitation by loading the previous turn because the monster may randomly move in a different direction.
Outpost/monument spam has kinda screwed the the whole territory control. Outpost spam at least required pioneers. monument spam made it way too easy, especially once you got a solid mana income. You basically steam roll resources.
That is absolutely unfair assertion. There is a plenty of bad design in the game, plenty of balance issues, and plenty of bugs. Being in the beta stage, some of it can be ironed out, but programming a competent AI is no small feat (and probably impossible, but a competent-looking AI would be better than what we have).
There are very strangely designed minigames like citybuilding, which contribute little gameplay enjoyment.
True, and that was a decent game mechanic. What is not a good game mechanic is a monster that you have no hope of defeating if you do everything exactly right, chewing up your level 1 city with all your forces pooled to defend it.
Tremor was mentioned, but a player should not be locked into a meta game choice just to survive. A game should give you choices, not present you with one viable build.
EDIT: Just read they are changing the mobs behavior in relation to cities in .915, great news!
I am trying to stop posting anything negative, but I must support the opening poster and also comment that these forums are unfriendly, possibly downright mean.
The guy explained his situation, and several posts I read bash him for it. I wrote one a few days ago, same thing happened.
What we all want is an enjoyable game, but enjoyable is subjective. It doesn't mean that we have to be rude to one another is our subjective views don't mesh.
Honestly, people, I used to come here a lot. It has turned into a pretty mean place.
I find this forum to be one of the more civilized I have ever frequented. I only get bothersome when they take my race away (Umber)
This is by far the most civilized forum. If you can't handle what is said here, you might want to stop using the internet.
That does not mean that we cannot disagree or tell someone their expectations are ridiculous. Such things happen in life. One of the things that veteran beta testers began with was a very low expectation of the game, given recent history of the title. Newer testers might have jumped in thinking this game was going to be something else and are now disappointed. Nothing really to be done about it, though most complaints seem to be about things that are still in development and thus irrelevant concerns IMHO. They will be fixed at some point. Why worry about when?
The game is headed in the right direction imo. The only problems I see are the randomness of having a good or bad game depending on start location and (early game) roaming monsters of death that prevent settling and exploring.
Both of these are civilized? They are rude. If your opening comment is the best you can come up with, you need lessons in etiquette, but that is up to you to decide. I don't tell others what to do.
It might not be an atmosphere full of respect and reverence for each other but as far as I have seen things rarely degenerate to namecalling and peole seem to be VERY patient with each other most of the time. Compared to forums that cater RTS, action RPGS and MMORPGS, TBS forums are really heaven as far as politeness and intelligent conversation are concerned. I think it is the turn based nature of the game that animates people to think before they write .
There is a difference between being mean and being rude. It might be rude to tell you to grow some thicker skin, but the point I am making is that the internet is chalk full of trolls and putrid vitriol. Internet etiquette is quite base if we are being honest. The fact is I see alot of people complaining about stuff that just plain unreasonable to ask of a beta. If I seem rude it is because I feel the need to get the point across about what is useful and what is silly when giving feedback on the forum. People seem to often miss the point that we are beta testers, not customers of a completed game that the devs are custom fitting to each player's whims. I am sure no one looked at the Eiffel tower when it was half done and said they expected more. It is equally illogical to do it here. Especially if your complaints are easily modded away.
For that matter, rudeness is often a more efficient form of communication. One can be civilized and yet rude. Especially when we are all using the written word. Meaning is a difficult thing to convey without being in the same room with each other. You should probably try to read a playful tone into my hyperbolic suggestion about not using the internet anymore. I am very rarely saying such things with a serious tone.
