What television series would you recommend to someone to start from scratch?
For instance, I’ve never watched Lost but I don’t think I could handle 7+ years or whatever it was of shows mainly because I heard the show ended up like X-Files where the creators were kind of winging it.
Any suggestions?
My Little Pony
Really??????
How sad. [e digicons]:'([/e]
I just finished doing that. Well, mostly. I skipped Enterprise because I saw that recently, and TOS as that is just to dated for me. So I just watched TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I followed this guide to watch them in chronological order, though I did skip a few that were particularly bad.
Firefly
Burn Notice
Battlestar Galactica (The new series)
Big Love
Sandbaggers,
Callan,
Press Gang.
Onedin line.
Now Callan is a show I could easily get back into... the acting was quality and Edward Woodward's portrayal was most exellent.
Mum and her new hubby are currently watching reruns of the Onedin Line back in the UK, so who knows, maybe the ABC here might run it again. As I recall, it was a decent seafaring drama, but it has been a long time and a refresh wouldn't go astray, given the high level of tripe being served up as television today.
As for Press Gang, well I never got into that, though I see your pinup girl, Julia Sawalha, was in it. For mine, she never got/gets enough airtime in Ab Fab... yeah, I like her, too.
I saw a few episode of Sandbaggers and I recall quite liking it, but I seem to recall it clashing with something the 1st missus liked to watch... meaning I missed out if I didn't want to miss out.
Some Brit comedies I liked..
Last of the Summer Wine.
It Ain't Half Hot, Mum.
Keeping Up Appearances.
Black Books.
Father Ted.
The IT Crowd.
Shameless.
Only Fools and Horses.
Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em.
Blackadder
One Foot n the Grave.
Open All hours.
Porridge.
Peep Show.
Shameless UK.
One Foot in the Grave.
The Worst week of My Life.
There's dozens more but those stick out most.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Defiance. I like sci-fi apocalyptic things like this and Revoluion. Defiance stars Grant Bowler, an Aussie actor who got his big break in an Oz cop show called Blue Heelers... also did some work in NZ on a show called Outrageous Fortune, which is great for a laugh.
Oh dear lord people.?!
Workaholics on Comedy Central.
You forgot Fawlty Towers!!!!!
How could you?....
I'm not as young as I used to be... also forgot Monty Python and Not the Nine o'Clock News.
Incidentally, the hotel facade used in Fawlty Towers was in Torquay, Devon, about 30 minutes away from where I lived.
I also forgot another fave Brit comedy I liked.... Never the Twain.
C.R.A.F.T. disease, you know.
Oh crap...so did I.
Not only but also ...... Kenny Everitt show.....geez the English did a squillion great comedies...
Remember not to remind them about the war...
I am enjoying Person of Interest ATM
April of last year is a necrothread?
Then I must be a corpse since I was born before the 80's !
The Nightly New scares the crap out of me, seems very realistic.
Monday Mornings on TNT
Damn, wouldn't that make a loud noise?
Jafo is prehistoric.... born before the 60's ....
Yep, there's one or two dinos here, me included... it's just a toss up for the eldest. Given his avatar, DrJBHL would have to be in the running, me thinks.
Old age, it really dawns on you when you realise that you had to change from measuring in cubits to feet and inches... then to metres and centimetres while remembering there's millimetres as well. Oh it's all so confusing.
Aw hell! There are so many...
Babylon 5 (my absolute favorite)
Home Improvement
Big Bang Theory (though it's getting old after a fashion)
Two and a half Men (until Charlie left)
Californication
Dr. Who (yeah, Tom Baker was the best)
Once upon a time
Castle (sue me! )
Supernatural
Scooby Doo
Time Tunnel (really funny from today's pov)
I use to like Moonlighting a lot (old show featuring Bruce Willis). But the last time I saw some re-runs of it, it felt like a bad trip...
Can't stand that show... before or after that idiot Sheen left. In fact, that Sheen idiot would have to have the absolute worst attitude towards women I have ever seen [no he wasn't acting, that's the real him] so it's very easy to dislike the mongrel.
The chronicles of a pathetic 'so-called' sex addict is NOT my idea of entertainment, and belongs i the same category as the Sheen show... OFF AIR.
Now we're talking... Tom Baker is a legend, as is Jon Pertwee.. the best Dr Who's ever.... though this new bloke ain't bad.
Yup, I like this show, but then I like fantasy subjects because they're a distraction from the unpleasant things of the real world.
Again, not a bad show... good for a giggle and a bit of suspense at times.
Not bad... has its moments
Yes, a classic Sci-fi... and probably why I like Castle... Nathan Fillion.
The Shield (Great start to finish) It actually nails the final episode which almost never happens.
The Wire
Had to edit to add: The Lost Room
Has anyone here seen 'Luther' on the BBC?
Did it ever get picked up for a second season?
