My understanding of the Advent Rebel ability, Wail of the Sacrificed, is that it does 20 damage for every point of population to all adjacent gravity wells. So, if a planet with a population of 180 is sacrificed (like an ice) it would do 3600 points of damage to all ships and structures in adjacent wells. That's worse than a missile barrage that affects the entire gravity well.
Is this ability overpowered? Should researching it be a Level 8 ability and should there perhaps be a monetary/resource cost to using it as it stands now?
U all miss the point of using wail.
Its not to kill enymy fleet. Its to kill it spectaculary so his morale sufers and he gives up.
We could go in and kill them by force, but it takes time and they would pull back and slow us down while the other side was lost.
Its the same way Kostura canons worked. Its a morale kiling weepon.
Also Devs, since u gave advent such a ql toy we want Kosturas back. As they were before the nerf.
And no limit of 4. Remove loyalist bonus for canons and unnerf costuras.
no, it's simultaneous... I know because I was trying to see all the ships blow up and hear the new sound effect and found i had to watch it several times to do it.
well, they weren't on the front until Quar was about to pop wail... my point was that they should have attacked before. I was kind of confused when they retreated earlier... but anyhow, with another titan on the way, that's just 1 more reason to go on the offensive now while you have a chance.
So yeah, armistice is basically useless against it short of widely guessing when they'll use it. And any good player should probably scout first before activating wail anyways.
I think they should add a warning time of four seconds. Put it in the infopanel where it will say "Wail of the Sacrificed is being used". If you zoom out to see all the planets, maybe the planet with Wail can have a purple glow(ping?) around it. This would give the TEC time to react with Armistice. So far the known counters to wail are.
Armistice, Novalith for the TEC. Thats not to unreasonable. And then the other counters are for the Vasari(I only theory Crafted this I have no idea) the Kostura Cannon would allow you to phase jump towards the planet that has the Temple of Communion(assuming it is not connected to another High Pop. world). Also has anyone tested to see how armor/shield mitigation works against Wail.
I'm almost certain they're fully applied. However in this case none of their ships were fighting, so mitigation would have been at only 15%.
The Kostura also disables structure abilities, so that alone can prevent it briefly. However, they'll see it coming in advance so at best you force them to use it earlier than they wanted.
My idea of protecting a fleet against wail using an Akkan was more of: Your fleet is 2 jumps away from the planet that could wail you, you jump in your Akkan first, the fleet shortly after. Before the fleet gets in you activate armistice and then send your fleet through the well either to attack the enemy planet or to reposition them elsewhere.
Ive just seen the replay. I Lol´d near the end!! "My fleet dissapeared!!" Lol xDD
Also i´ve didnt seen an 8 players match. Ive enjoyed the replay so much... It looked like a Board Game, and i love Risk and that stuff =D
Wish i could play with a lot of people at the same time!
let me tell you about this thing they call the inter-net...
Yeah, right xDD I mean, i dont find so much people playing on ICO coz my time is GMt+1 (when there´s enough guys, its around 2 AM here, sooo late!).
Whaaaaaaaat
I just saw you online right now. haha.
@Mecha: I believe its 2 AM for him right now. Im on EST time and its 10:37 PM still so when it gets late in the day for him the pro's and everyone else is on.
... As I was saying, it's a network of tubes...
I live in GMT+1, no problem with finding 5s between 6PM-2AM.
I really don't know ._.
You really think that in four seconds you can:
A: Target the planet with the temple about to fire of WotS
B: Kostura that planet
C: Phase jump to that planet
D: Take out the Temple
All in four seconds? You'd need 5 minutes! And the heck with giving ya'll 5 min warnings!
You misunderstood mayal's post. The 4 second warnign would only be to turn armistice into a valid counter.
Kostura is already a valid counter, albiet one that requires you to anticipate the danger of Wail. Kostura can disable the orbital structures around a planet for 3 minute- that means even if you don't send a fleet you can use it to prevent a planet from Wailing for 3 minutes. The idea is it's a preventative counter if you plan ahead- not one that would make the opponent sacrifice their population for no benefit because of the 4 second proposed warning.
Also keep in mind that a planet's Wail doesn't damage enemy ships "at ground zero" in the planet's own well(It only damages ships in adjacent wells). This means Kostura can be used to jump past the threatened area directly to the high pop world which may then be invaded. Of course this only works if there isn't a second adjacent high population world.
Maybe it's just me, but when I click the link it sends me to some site that wants me to install a whole bunch of software, change my search engine and homepage, etc.
No warnings-i don't get warnings when Novaliths fire on me then why would i want to give enemy fleets the heads up that im going to kill you in so and so seconds. Defeats the whole purpose and wail is not overpowered at all. The only overpowered thing about the advent is my ego towards them thinking they are infact a tier 1 race now as opposed to tier 3 in diplomacy (but playable by pros and people who knew how to play them).
There are a lot of adds pretending to be links. Click the one that says "From Sendspace" and make sure it links to a sendspace URL.
Or, if you are running firefox, install adblock plus and noscript. By doing that you can kill most popups and advertisements and make sure pages like sendspace don't just redirect you to the next adult page.
I don't have the beta, so my opinion probably doesn't count for much, but I think that this is a really cool ability and if the devs mess with it (as in lower the damage or put restrictions) I think that it will make the Advent Rebels a less fun race to play. Keep it like it is, it sounds awesome.
I'm a Vasari player, but if this ability stays like it is now I might play Advent Rebels a fair bit as well. This ability is not overpowered. There is a difference between powerful and overpowered, and this ability is supposed to be powerful.
Mmm ok, so it does 20 damage per population... if u use it at a Terran planet with 300 people: 300x20 = 6000 Damage. That would fuck any low level Titan =D
I thought you were a Yankee.
There's a three second gap between the Red button and the blast, in Ent at least.
+1
Im GMT+1 and i do find people... but im pretty "scared" of the lenght of online matches T_T
