I can probably say I was the first to figure it out. My friend of mine told me that when Microsoft Gaming Studioes released a quote with Cortana saying something about the Prometheus Project, I found the trailer for the movie left clues. There was nothing specific in Cortana's quote, therefore giving famous well-known director, Ridley Scott, who directed the Transformers Trilogy, and Battleship, with well-known actor, Liam Neeson, the imaginative freedom to direct and create his ideas into what has now become the movie called "Prometheus".
In the beginning of the trailer, when they show one of the ancient civilization's king looking at his hand, and his veigns get dark and start to move, that was one clue that me and my friend figured out. Another clue is the color of the pods in the crescent-shaped ship, along with the ceiling's color and movement. The other clue is the man holding the small bit of flesh on the tip of his forefinger, when he says "Big things have small beginnings" near the end of the Prometheus trailer. The last clue is when almost at the end of the trailer, the trooper yells "GET IT OUT!!!".
All of this led to my most certain and probable conclusion of what this may and MIGHT be the beginning of: The Halo movie series. Why? The color of the pods, the king's veigns, the small bit of flesh, and the trooper yelling "get it out". The pods were Flood pods. You can easily see the resemblance between Halo 3's Flood pods, and the pods in the movie trailer. In one of the terminals in the Halo: Anniversary game, The veigns of the Elite start to move and change color; same deal with the king. In another terminal, the small bit of flesh is 30x smaller than 343 Guilty Spark in the game as well. That small bit of flesh happens to be a Flood Spore. AND finally, the quote: "get it out". In the first Halo game, the VERY first thing you hear from an infected marine, while still alive, is "GET IT OOUUT!!!". IN the current trailer, that is the one thing you would hear from a real infected marine (though might be true).
We are probably now entering a new era of movie technology for Sci-Fi movies EVER made, thanks to Ridley Scott. IF what my conclusion says is true, and it is CLOSE to what Ridley Scott has planned for us, Halo Fans, we are most likely to have a world-wide sensation of the very first movie in the Halo series, Prometheus. The one thing that will determine the Halo movie's greatness, is Ridley Scott's excellent choosing of actors, actresses, and for the MAIN characters: Cpt. Jacob Keyes, Seargant-Major Johnson, and, of course, Cortana, the well-known ship-board AI for the Pillar of Autumn. Currently, I do not know whether or not this IS accurate. BUT, Microsoft Gaming Studios, having fired Peter Jackson for his poor choice of actors and deliberately refusing to accept Microsoft Gaming Studio's veto for his choice of actors, they gave Ridley Scott his first chance for bringing his well-known excellence in technology for the nation-wide sensation, the Transformers Trilogy, and Battleship. Some of you may agree, some of you may not. AS THE TITLE SAYS, THIS IS ONLY A DAMN THEORY. I DID NOT SAY THIS IS ACCURATE. iM POSTING SIMILARITIES THAT MAY EXIST OR NOT!!! DO NOT RAMPAGE ABOUT ME SAYING "IT'S NOT TRUE, IT'S NOT TRUE, IT'S NOT TRUE!!!".
What I meant about the special effects is that we are now capable of a lot more realism now--even if we rarely use it effectively. I can re-watch 2001 and it is beautifully filmed but it shows it's age with its limitations in some of the scenes--even though I still can appreciate the stylism.
In Prometheus, the 3D is unobtrusive and actually adds to the sense of being there (at least in the iMax theater). I normally DON'T go to 3D movies (I see the 2D version) and was mostly unimpressed with Avatar's use of it--it added little and in fact had scenes where it distracted.
In Prometheus this isn't the case at all. There isn't a single scene where you go, "Oh, there's that crappy 3D stuck in". Ridley really get's the use of it. There was no washed out color, dim lighted, blurred scenery, artificial jabs into the screen or obvious 2D images layered with artificial depth--it looked completely natural throughout the film. There was literally only a second where I even really noticed the graphics of it and that was in a sandstorm. I work with Photoshop and do image design so I have a fair eye for that sort of thing and I think I wouldn't even have noticed it otherwise. Incredibly well done with the 3D and it does add to this film--again, at least on iMax. It was subtle and effective.
I actually would regret now having to watch it in only in 2D on a smaller screen.Getting the DVD will be intersting when you can see both versions.
I love the fact that Ridley used sets instead of only ubiquitous green screen cgi and he really nailed the imagery in this film. I guarantee you if you watched Avatar and Prometheus side by side, you would see the difference--though James Cameron still made a very watchable movie.
About the interpretation page and the comment above--I agree. The fun of it is thinking of ideas that you hadn't and he gives great stuff--much of it I am betting he is completely correct on. I did see some thing he didn't discuss and they fit well with most of what he said.
Caldyth...I definitely liked the David character too and I also really liked Noomi Rapace's character. The ending scene and lines of the movie were just perfect and it put the two most interesting characters together in a really dramatic way. I sure hope they get a sequel out for this and really grabbed hold of what science fiction is about.
Lol--obviously, I like this film. It's been so long since we've had great scifi I was going through withdrawal.
One thing that didn't grab me was the music--it may be I was caught up so much in the visuals and story i missed a lot of it. I'll have to get a chance to see it again to really decide.
P.S. I just talked myself into going to see it again. I'll catch the 2D version this time.
After walls of text thought I'd add something more interesting. Here are the viral video links on YouTube and a link to the "Weyland Training Site". There are a couple of other web things out there but the viral videos are all here. Note the "future Skype call by Elizabeth Shaw is being monitored by "Yutani" software. There are some clues in here--specifically with the extended David video.

I'm planning on seeing it again, but this time I'll try the 3D version based on your comments.
It was extremely good in iMax.
I just saw it again and here's something I noted I missed the last time. When the "character" is awakened from hypersleep to "have a talk", he emotes perplexity and a little confusion. When Dr. Shaw is struck, he seems to become very decided immediately on his feelings.
Music I noticed this time. A little annoying Star Trekish piece every now and then but overall very reminiscent of Blade Runner, sans Vangelis.
There is also a specific "tell" from David at one point (I won't say what) that gives evidence of what his true motives and perspective are. I still absolutely love the end interaction between David and Dr. Shaw.
Good the second time through.
Spot on.
SPOILERS ALERT:

Thoughts on this interpretation?
The big tell that indicates Davids motivations, is it when he says 'big things have small beginnings'? Implying that he wants to create something? Or did you have something else in mind?
Please do NOT post 'spoilers'.
Thankyou.
Yeah....I wouldn't say. You just have to pay attention.
