I have loved what little I have played of SINS Rebellion but..... WHY DID WE NOT HAVE ALL THE RACES FROM THE START?! I am sorry but this is kind of a BS way to balance the game. The only way way any form of game balance can be done is if all the races are playable from the start so you see when one is just pwning the other and adjust for it. Right now I am sure a lot of the balance changes that have been might reversed or something else needs to be instead. Sorry I just am mad I can fire my phase missiles and that game balance cannot even be close to be done with out all the parties involved.
They're still ages away from releasing 1.0
Relax, the dev's know what they're doing.
I'm no expert, but from what i've witnessed they're just fixing bugs with the factions one at a time, and the final balancing will be done before the release. I think they're just balancing 2 factions (Rebels and Loyalists) at a time before moving on with the next main faction. Otherwise they have to do everything in one time.
Please keep in mind that different companies do beta testing in different ways (I do not know if you did do beta testing before, but I am assuming that you did). Depending on the goals of the developers, they will test different things first. For example, a reason why we could only play as TEC at first (this is speculation) might be because the developers were more interested in finding bugs in the engine rather than solving balance issues. Also, when the beta went live, the Vasari were far from done. The VLT, for example, still used TEC weaponry. Also, since the Vasari were so unpolished, it would not help the developers if we reported bugs on a race that is clearly not finished. This would make legitimate bugs (bugs dealing with factions that the developers deemed to be "finished") harder to find and slow down development by that much.
The release is less than two months away. They really should work faster since time is at a premium. At this rate 1.00 will only include the Vasari.
Have they given an official release date then?
I have seen release dates on sites that would sell SOASE Rebellion, but I have not seen anything from Stardock/Ironclad.
I believe i say May something on Impulse
Here it is, never mind, its june
6/12/2012
ok thought so lol
DUUUUUUUUUDE!! I didn't know it was only 39.99! SO PRE-ORDERING!
btw, Age of Empires 3 complete collection is discounted by $20 today (19.99)
And so what? That's still less than two months.
ya know its still a bloody beta. Be happy you can even play it right now, and lets be fair.. vasari are probably nearly finished and cosmetic and bug fixes are what they are doing, no one plays their best hand too early, else what would be the point in a beta? vasari are probably gonna be released late, just because.. and who cares too many people loved vasari due to being op, and as for balancing, its not really an issue since they can easily balance tec and advent, sure the balancing will be an issue with vasari, however instead of needing to change two factions to cater 1, changing vasari will be easier as it will only cause an imbalnce in one direction atleast, not 2 or 3
If they worked on all three races at the same time there likely wouldn't be much of a beta, because the game would be finished. They do releases like this so they have time to work on other races while providing a beta for our enjoyment and to find bugs. Making sure each race works well and is balanced is top priority, and doing staggered releases ensures each race will be better played/tested and keeps us playing to track down and exterminate every last bug. There will be time to ensure balance fixes before the release.
As I've seen so far, March was TEC, and April for Advent, I'd guess May is Vasari and June with the final release. Two months away means twice as much time for balancing with the Vasari as the other races.
So relax and let's all keep helping the devs make this game as good as possible before the release.
If you ask me the beta is a gift to the long term fans. Case example is how those who have been playing Trinity get $10 discounted from the price. Finished or unfinished the beta is a bargain.
P.S. The Vasari never struck me as the type to whine.
Very true, they're more the type to go...
"Mroaaaaaar! Enslave them!"
Actually I wish they had done it in an even better controlled more targeted manner. Something like:
Phase 1: only TEC
Phase 2: only advent
Phase 3: only vasari
Phase 4.1(shorter phase): TEC & Advent only
Phase 4.2(shorter phase): TEC & Vasari only
Phase 4.3(shorter phase, but a bit longer then 4.1 & 4.2 as this matchup has always been complicated): Advent & Vasari only
Phase 5: All races enabled.
The point is I think the devs had a good idea: they are essentially doubling the number of factions, so restricting gameplay to less factions at a time initially allows for better balancing of the rebels against the loyals of each respective faction. Like I said I wish they had gone even farther to focus on one matchup at a time. It's really a much more efficient way of balancing as compared to having all races enabled.
As it stands even with 2 races enabled we're already starting to produces a confusing mess of unrelated feedback on the beta feedback forum. When everyone is talking about a single faction it's easy for the devs to browse the forums to get a general consensus on that faction. By comparison the current state of things, some threads pertain to the advent, some pertain to the TEC, and some pertain to the advent VS TEC matchup. Combined with the wide variety of opinions and the inevitable incorrect views some testers will inevitably hold, the congestion caused by having feedback related to multiple races on the forums is likely making it much harder to sort out the good well reasoned feedback on a given topic from the less substantiated feedback.
Actually, in the current state of things it would be great if they'd give us a few subforums for feedback related to the different races. That would organize feedback a bit.
They are releasing the races one at a time to fix bugs first and foremost - balance the glaring things as well - but fine tuning faction balance is the last step and generally continues past release as well. It does slow things down a bit when balance changes introduce new bugs though - as in all the bugs that came from the last Advent patch. There is another patch due tomorrow apparently so a changelog should be showing up soon. Here's hoping some of the culture and shiip re-animation bug fixes made it into the patch in time.
It's a beta ... their beta, their rules, their method ... we all get what the Dev's give us; simple. Swearing, cursing, and in general 'whining' to them will not make them do what they want to do any faster or slower. Get over it, shut up, and help grind out the bugs with the rest of us with what has been released. This will ensure there is ultimately less work (fixing, patching etc) when the Vasari do get released. Constructive and helpful criticism with get you what you want a heck of a lot faster than simply throwing a temper tantrum like a 2 year old.
Here is a question: why do YOU think you CAN'T balance a game without all 3 races? Are you a dev for the game by any chance? Have you balanced many games with 3 races so you base it on your personal experience? Just asking....
Anyhow, thanks for letting us know...
He surely as hell went over the top, but in this case, he has a point, and you do not have to be a rocket scientist nor game-developer to see it, its a common logic, right? If you balance 2 things against each-other and then add third thing into the mix, any following changes may break the balance, you already achieved before.
Obviously the devs use the beta for other purposes than balancing issues, thats why they decided it to do it this way. I reckon next week or the week after we will finally see Vasari and from then up to the final release there will be plenty of time to take care of the faction balance.
I'm assuming they're focusing on bugs now and fixing glaring issues. Let's say that Malice still was unlimited and Chastic Burst dealt 2000 damage to each target instead. That'd be something that would get hit with the nerfbat hard. Smaller things on the other hand, not so much.
Point is, this stage is predominantly bug fixing which is followed by coarse balance changes. I'm assuming the devs are using something along these lines...
Phase 1a: TEC debuggingPhase 1b: TEC coarse balancingPhase 2a: Advent debugging<-you are herePhase 2b: Advent coarse balancing<-next patch is herePhase 3a: Vasari debuggingPhase 3b: Vasari coarse balancingPhase 4: fine balancingPhase 5: final tweaksPhase 6: release
I could be wrong, but that seems to be how things have been going and where they are headed.
Whining that all things are not enabled mid open beta process is rather fail. And it makes a lot of sense for the Vasari to be the last ones enabled as they seem to be the ones undergoing the biggest change, with consuming planets and whatnot.
I wouldn't really say that. I'm assuming they're last simply because the strange matchup has always been Vasari vs Advent because of PM's.
They only wanted to focus on one thing at a time.
Sorry but how so, going race by race to make sure that their tech was up to snuff, and then releasing them all to see how they faired against each other. You sir are a meanie.
Or just someone who has no idea how debugging works and/or is selfish.
Probably the latter
