heavenfall, I had tried a large map with my custom sov against all of the stormworld 1.3 sovs and had two crashes before the start of game. have not attempted to narrow down what might be causing this.

Did you use the rivermod? Did you follow the installation instructions for it? That's the only thing that can cause crashes before the start afaik.
Edit: You have 64-bit computer and 4gb or more right?
I did not see any instructions for the river mod, and I was using it in my primary development machine which DOES have 4gb, but on xp32 bit, and the rivermod was in the mods folder along with all the other mods from stormworld 1.3 except the disabe vanilla sovs mod which I had deleted.
Check the wiki for installation instructions for the rivermod. But if you're on a 32-bit computer you will see crashes every now and then anyway.

What difficulty level do you recommend when starting to play your mod?

I play different difficulties (Challenging and Insane). What would be a good "against the world" type of race?

As much as I hate to admit it, the Backpack of Many Things is OP, whether you get it as a starting item or as loot. All you need is regeneration greater or equal to the damage done to you, and either a weapon that doesn't get regeneration, or a sword and fighting against a no retaliation weapon, and you can let yourself get hit as much as you want to get infinite items. Is it possible to either a) limit the number of items you can find in one battle (perhaps 3) or only give the better items when more damage is done? Although the second isn't as good, because with enough life shards you can regenerate even 8 or 10 health per combat turn if you get lucky. Is a) possible?
What I'm thinking is to make the items available only to that character in that fight. That way you wouldn't really get any benefit if you can just outlast an enemy like that because it means you've already won the fight. But in a fight where it mattered, you'd find items now and then that you'd have to consider using.
In that case, you'd need to make sure that any items that can't be used in battle can't be picked by the random algorithm. Also, if you were to do that, then the backpack would only be worth 1 point in the Sov creation.
Hi Heavenfall, I just installed the mod yesterday and have started a game as the Greenskins. All is going well so far - the other races look great as I meet them and seem to be playing sensibly, I've found my first reliquary item, and I'm getting a kick out of the greenskin racial ability to gain attack in large stacks. My weedy spearmen are kicking ass, my sovereign is lethal, and I find that I'm having to alter my strategy to my race's strengths and weaknesses.
I have encountered one weirdness though. After seeing that my army of the sovereign, a champion, 1 militia, 2 units of orc spearmen and 1 unit of goblin spearmen was rated strong, I started taking on tough enemies - an umberdroth, a drake and a slag. After defeating the slag I realised why it was so easy - my basic, club-armed militia were instantly killing whatever they hit!
No idea why this was happening - I didn't notice it on a previous, abortive game as Frost Giants in which I also build a militia unit, and the post-battle report said that the attack did only 2 damage, but the enemy dropped dead nonetheless.
Oh ffs they broke a function I was using... well... that's bollocks. I'll have to remove a bunch of stuff and hope it gets fixed.

No problem, I'll start a new greenskin game in 1.3b & see how they do with the trait removed - and out of curiosity about these pants of no gender, which sound terribly progressive for a fantasy game!
Heavenfall, I'm not sure what the problem is which causes save corruption, but any save saved after this one crashes when you end turn. I'm thinking there is a larger problem with save corruption that may affect non-modded versions too, when an unhired hero or army stack is defeated and visually remains on the map, which might corrupt the saves saved after it. This happened with defeating the Plague Stalkers near the save position of the Skeleton King and happens when defeating any hero of opposite alignment who you can't hire. I have not been able to successfully load and then end turn without an immediate crash of any save saved after the above one, but that one consistently works no matter what, so there is no retroactive sullying of saves (thank goodness). Can you have a look at it to see if you can figure anything out? I might try a non-modded game a bit later to see if I can replicate it there. The only differences between full Stormworld 1.3b are the 1.5 movement for all rough terrain except rivers, and a custom difficulty level for the Hard difficulty, based on https://forums.elementalgame.com/427194/get;3181066.

Here is a debug.err from shortly after this save (when I press End Turn after loading it I get that debug.err file produced with no zip). Windows says the program stopped responding. There is some interesting stuff in the debug.
LOL, sorry about the name. Looks like something is breaking when attempting to save roads. Honestly, it is very difficult to pinpoint the problem of things like this so unfortunately all I can say is I hope it goes away in beta 4. What I mean is, I don't think it's the mod causing it - at least not directly.
You can correct it now.
