Diablo 3 launches in about a month. Anyone else have their preorder in? Passed up the collectors edition. Do enjoy old games (Planescape, Age of Wonders...) but have less than zero desire to play Diablo 2.
The real money auction house seems alluring. Time will tell if it's a viable way to make some extra cash or a soon be to tabled feature.
I tried TQ and it was boring. Much worse game then D2. Better balanced skills but that is all.
I tried Torchlight 1, it was bad. I cannot stand cartoony graphics. It was way not serious enough and its other features were not good enough for me to ignore that.
Currently I play D3. I am not satisfied with it, graphics could be better, there could be more character development (and by that I mean trying out builds; in D3 you never need more then one character of same class) and story could be not made for 10 year olds but combat is the most fun I had in any aRPG so far (including D1, D2 and PoE that I didn't mention yet). Also I can see myself getting bored with it once I get all characters to lvl 30+ to check out all their abilities. I am not really interested in Inferno and the whole "play the AH to progress in Inferno".
Anyone looking for a much cheaper/better alternative to D3 should check out Titan's Quest: Immortal Throne (while waiting for Grim Dawn, Torchlight 2, etc.). I found it less tedious than D2 (not much less, but less... if you thought D2 was tedious you'll think TQ is as well), you have a greater depth of character customization, all sorts of great recipes and item generation, fun bosses (especially once you play past the normal mode - there's several ubermonsters out there lurking on the harder difficulties) and of course much better graphics. The skills and hotkeys were much easier to use and customize as well. Iron Lore pretty much took every annoyance I had with D2 and made it better in TQ and the Immortal Throne expansion. Except a fun, interesting story. The one in TQ is pretty meh, but I don't think too many people play a hack 'n slash for just the story.
Yep to both.
Although to be fair part of my dislike of TQ might have been how horridly buggy it was when released. Crashing constantly and deleting your stuff. Both games are basically D2 clones only without the awesome story and setting.
Grim Dawn is set for release on august 2013... so that is more then a year away.
I think that I'm pretty much done with this game. It's just not fun any more.
Act 1 of Inferno was fine. It was reasonably challenging the first time through, and after some farming it is now very easy. Act 2 is just stupid. It's not fun.
Don't get me wrong, I can progress through it. I do enough damage and I've basically gotten through the act. It's just not fun. The "correct" way to build your champ is to go for damage. This means that EVERYTHING one hits you. If any white hits you with anything, you are probably going to die. It doesn't matter that you have 30k hp with 4500 armor and pretty good resists. Those zap worms will one hit you.
And thats just not fun. Like I said, I can progress. But it's just not fun when you are constantly dying to stupid stuff. Your ping get a little high because Blizzard's servers suck? Dead. Didn't see that zap worm come out of the wall? Dead. Only saw 4 of the 5 Vile Swarms because they are blue against blue terrain? Dead. Only saw 4 of 5 of the Deceiver spheres? Dead.
Then you have enemies like Lacuna Huntresses. They burrow, so you can't hit them at range pretty often. They can leap onto you, which is death. They throw potions, which one hit you at range. They come in decent sized groups. I can get through them, but it's just not fun when you end up taking stupid instagibs because of how badly designed Act 2+ of Inferno is.
Well designed games have a rhythm. You have to concentrate hard on some parts for a challenge, but other parts are a little bit more relaxed. You don't need absolute concentration at all points in time. Act 2+ of Inferno doesn't act this way. You have to be constantly on alert because everything will kill you in less than half a second if they get a hit on you. I want to be able to relax at least a little as I play a game.
The stupid Blizzard comments like "wow, we are surprised at how spikey the damage in Inferno is. We want to tone that down". You guys publicly said that you have been polishing the game for 2 years. And you are just now noticing this?
Yeah... that lets you know the devs of D3 never actually play their game legit...
