Diablo 3 launches in about a month. Anyone else have their preorder in? Passed up the collectors edition. Do enjoy old games (Planescape, Age of Wonders...) but have less than zero desire to play Diablo 2.
The real money auction house seems alluring. Time will tell if it's a viable way to make some extra cash or a soon be to tabled feature.
The problem I just now had with the AH was trying to buy out the item only to have it time out. It then was listed as sold. My gold wasn't dropping and nothing was in my inbox. I began to think someone was buying all the cheap AH items right under my nose. 20 minutes later I go to buy potions and cannot afford a single one. As it turns out, all those buy-outs went through. Musta been on a delay timer...
Anyone up for a Diablo run on Nightmare difficulty right now?
I'm level 38 in act 2 on nightmare if you want to join. pacov#1150
I never played a Diablo game or even heard Grim Dawn or tourchlight
the tv ads for are of no help
It seems that Blizzard is doing a good job with the new games, I mean people have been waiting for a decade for the new game, and yet they meet expectations. I mean Duke Nukem Forever to like what more than 16 years and with all the hype it was basically crap.
GJ Blizzard. Just a question for those who play Diablo III, how often do you do? Or are you a god and you don't die at all? Be honest.
On normal difficulty deaths will come few and far in between. the next difficulty, nightmare, most deaths will be caused by getting ganked by champion hordes. i had trouble with the final boss until i found a workable build which i used to solo the guy. my buddy and i are having a hell of a time on hell difficulty, struggling to get through act 1. it almost feels as if the game uses your first two playthroughs (you cant play the next difficulty level until you beat it with the previous) as warm-ups to the real game. that being said, i have not enjoyed a game this much in a long time.
Got to Inferno yesterday. Now just have to get better gear. Will be in act 1 until for a little while.
Some interesting info on upcoming patches, some game stats, etc

I think that they kind of missed the point of the gem crafter. It's not gems that are the cutoff for gem upgrades, but gold. It costs 20,000 to combine 3 squares to a flawless square. Thats a hell of a lot. I have enough radiant/square topaz's in my inventory to make 9 flawless squares. I'm just not going to spend 180,000 to do it. When you look at all my gems, it would take like a third of a million to fully upgrade, which just isn't worth it.

I have a 51 wizard plus a monk & witch doctor in the low tens.
a small gripe i have with the monk is that i equip a big sword which glows with a vibrant green and never slash it once. any attack immediately sheaths the sword. this is an issue with every character, barring the barbarian, but it has actually made me switch from monk to another class. i know there's a dye which makes armor invisible, ill have to try it on weapons.
edit: you cannot dye weapons. looks like im stuck with my dumb, purposeless sword until i loot something more appropriate.
Damn got hacked... hopefully this gets resolved.
I loved D2. I still play it, have plugY on the desktop right now. I have played on battle.net for 15 minutes and decided that, having satellite, it just won't work. Now, I would love to buy D3, I'd be happy with single-player, and leave you all to the MP awesomeness. We might play via in-house lan, but that'd be it.
But I can't. I cannot buy the game at the store and play it at home without connecting to batt;e.net. It says it on the box(something I bitched about not being on a number of games years ago, but I digress.). So, I have been looking forward to this game since the day I killed Baal on Hell. Let's see, how many years ago was that? And now, I'm not allowed to ever play it, except maybe briefly, because I live in the country and literally do not have any choice but satellite. Yay.
If this is a trend to expect for gaming, I'm going to buy up a bunch of systems in a couple of years, as well as stockpile some overstock copies of my favorite games pre-"cloud" gaming.
Somebody drop me a line if they decide to put out a pure single-player you-are-not-going-on-battle.net-with-this version. I'll buy two copies at launch-day price if it happens in the next 5 years.
Titan's Quest:IT : play it and you'll never want to go back to that over hyped media darling again.
D3 found a way to make the" always on" internet requirement palatable. The game experience is improved in the end. It reigns in cheating and duplicating items, it extends enjoyment by not letting a friend copy you an item and max out your gear without playing as the game was intended. The auction house adds an interesting economic meta game that would not be possible without the "always on" requirement.
I find games and movies are the only media I'm willing to accept completely digitally. It's a better experience holding a book in your hand, it's better to have a CD (even better having the vinyl lp cover to look at), case and booklet. There is nothing lost in games and movies going digital.
As for Titan Quest, that game was pretty cool. It'd be a good substitute.
1. I agree with op totally.
2. D3 is an MMO light, and that further ruins the atmosphere (playing with friends ruins the horror aspect)
3. The pay to win thing is bullshit. Can people get it from a chinese gold farmer? Yes, at the risk of getting their account banned.
Disclaimer: I am not saying this is in any way as serious as crime... but to facilitate explaining the issue I draw the following scenario.
Theft is legalized with the government taxing theft, with the justification of "its gonna happen anyways" and "this way we are the ones getting the money rather then the thieves". It is absurd...
4. I bought every blizzard game ever, including the games from before they were blizzard (the 3 vikings game). D3 is their first game I will not be buying, because of the always on internet connection DRM bullshit.
It turns out that Hell isn't that hard of a difficultly level when you have 30k dps. Diablo wasn't even a sweat. I've made it through Skeleton King on Inferno now. I had to skip two miniboss packs - a rare with Mortar and Invincible Minions (among other things) and a pack of champions with mortar/extra health/walls. Invincible minions and mortar are the only things that I really fear. Extra speed can be tough in the right circumstances though.
I did get a sweet Legendary item in Inferno (right after I got 5 NV stacks). A quiver with +112 dex, +119 vitality, +20% attack speed, +1.1 Hatred Regen, Hungering Arrow damage increased by 9%, and a socket. It was amazing because I use Hungering Arrow anyway.
youre passing up a great gaming experience. torchlight 2 is just around the corner, the first game is a pre-order bonus.
Hell isn't that hard regardless (I face-tanked him as melee wiz... post-nerf). Though you may want to take Sharpshooter off when checking your damage stats.
Inferno A1 isn't that much worse aside from champs/elites. A2 is where the real game begins.
I don't understand, are you confusing torchlight 2 and diablo 3?
what your melee wiz build?
my default build is the two active dps boosters, diamond skin, poison hydra, chain lightning & blizzard.
no

Something like this (don't remember exactly). It was a blast to play in A3-4 of hell but melee doesn't work so well in inferno where the damage comes in an order of magnitude faster than the life steal can fill you back up... so now it's back to boring old orb kiting build.
I'm liking the idea of replenishing your health by being in the thick of it. Do you modify your critical hit chance with anything besides pinpoint barrier? I toyed with the idea of raising the crit hit chance as much as possible but havent spent the time trying it out.
Krazikarl, 30k dps. I did a fun run of normal difficulty diablo with my 51 wizard, im guessing thats how you feel on hell.
edit: im a big fan of crowd control. i find i rarely use frost nova. champions give me the majority of my trouble and frost nova freezes them for a fraction of the time of normals mobs. im finding blizzard to be my preferred form of crowd control as it not only does it slow down but adds some damage.
Hence my confusion, I said "I will not buy diablo 3, I bought every other blizzard game". And you are telling me that I shouldn't pass on torchlight 2.
I never mentioned torchlight 2... I will try it of course, fist one had too little plot so I didn't like it, hopefully this one is more interesting.
ok, buddy
Play TitansQuest:IT much better game by far.
Diablo 3 is a very big disappointment and it is showing. Just a dumbed down D2 with a crappy story, online DRM, and an auction house that ruins gameplay because there are already rumors of Blizzard turning down drop rates so you have to use the AH. GrimDawn is coming out so save your money for it, there are and will be much better ARPG's than D3
