Diablo 3 launches in about a month. Anyone else have their preorder in? Passed up the collectors edition. Do enjoy old games (Planescape, Age of Wonders...) but have less than zero desire to play Diablo 2.
The real money auction house seems alluring. Time will tell if it's a viable way to make some extra cash or a soon be to tabled feature.
AMEN!
Now if only the player economy would settle down a bit....
IT is alright but doesn't deserve anything higher than an 8 out of 10.
They hold your hand too much and took away alot from the game without adding to it. Nothing is new in this game. Diablo 3 is a major letdown, feels more like a clone to me and the graphics are not terribly good. Wish I would have had a chance to try the beta, I would not have bothered.
Not to mention that most classes only use weaps for stat increases and only use the weapon if they run out of their special power(almost never). The monk for example equips weapons and carries them around but warps them to his back and uses his fists than afterwards they warp to his hands again, no animations using even monk oriented weaps like knuckles.
I want to make a mage with a sword who when his magic runs out fights hand to hand but sadly they took that option from you, and you basically never run out of magic except when using secondary abilities and that is only for a second or two.
The art direction is very poor as well. Wish they would have went for the dark gothic feel of D1, instead you have dungeons with giant swinging cleavers and areas in caves that glow from red to green to blue. Way to much color and it takes away from a dark scary setting. After a few weeks and the frenzy dies off the true reviews will be out and any higher than 8, they are paid.
Some things don't need to be changed and they should have stuck with the D2 formula but implemented a way to respec your character by paying in-game gold. I would say save your money and buy Titan Quest + Exp. Graphics are just as good but it is much more fun to play with many more character classes to choose from. D3 is by far the worst in the series not to mention the constantly online DRM that has already been circumvented and duped items are showing up, I would only give D3 a 6 out of 10.
I like the game, but there are some serious problem.
Item generation is TERRIBLE. Shockingly bad. Every item is incredibly generic. That includes most legendaries (even though they are super rare drops). It's all passive states plus a few boring and obvious categories. They've stripped out a ton of the choices (do I go damage, or resists, or +stats?) in favor of a vast simplification (just take the item that gives you the best primary stat).
I'm almost positive that they are going to release DLC fairly soon here that includes a ton of actually interesting items. There is no other explanation for the huge drop in the level of how interesting items are from D2 to D3. It'll probably cost $10-15 and include the 3rd crafter that they stripped late from the game.
After Blizzard's treatment of Starcraft II I would not be surprised if this happened.
Pro-tip, there's an option in the gameplay (options) where you can choose "elective" play. If you tick that, you can choose any skill for any of the 6 skillbar slots.
Just discovered that, that was a game changer. Changed my barb up and he tanks harder. link Love it! Just waiting to get rage regeneration because I am only 36.
Wow. This is pretty freaking great. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure it will make a huge difference. +1 for you.
I bit the bullet and bought this game, and I am loving the added social features because it allows you to easily join a game with your friends.
Here's another good tip that someone shared in another thread:
Yes, thats how the top Diablo teams beat Inferno so quickly. They corpse hopped through most of the content and just took out the bosses (which are supposedly not that tough compared to blue and yellow mobs).
Anyway, the balancing is terrible. Barbs and monks (to a lesser extent) are useless at higher difficulties, while ranged classes that can kite can get through inferno fairly easily.
Blizzard was pretty clearly lying when they said they spent a few years polishing this game.
Gem drops are alittle too high... I am in nightmare final act and sweet jesus I am swimming in gems. Are there elemental immune enemies on hell or higher difficulties?
If you had to sacrifice either the gem or item when you remove the gem there might be more balance. The way I see it is you'll be swapping around the same gems throughout your entire game. If the gems would level or something this would be great but as they are I'm conflicted.
They do "level" in a sense, since the good gems don't drop, they have to be crafted. That's why you see a flawless square for 10k and then the next version for 120k. Basically, the new gem system is a huge, HUGE grind for the "enthusiast" player.
Ok that price would hold me back, but on the front of elemental immune enemies, are there any? (poison immune, fire immune, etc...)
Haven't met any.
Nice, my account got hacked. Not a big deal since my items werent good enough to clean out, so they just got like 150k gold. Mostly just funny. There have been A LOT of people reporting that their accounts have been hacked.
The funny bit is that there is almost no way the problem was on my end. This is a very new computer - I think that the only things that I've downloaded are Steam, 2 games from Steam, Chrome, D3, and LoL. So I'm not getting keylogged. And I've never logged in anyplace other than the game with my D3 info once I created the account. So I didn't get phished. And I have never used that password elsewhere.
My guess is that Blizzard has really weak security and I got brute forced or something. My password was minimum length, and they don't allow that many symbols in their passwords, so that's probably how it went down. It would account for how many people are getting hacked too.
I'm guessing that this is the real reason for the delay in the auction house for real money. They can't release that given how many accounts are getting hacked atm.
I guess I should get one of those authenticator things. It should be unnecessary, but I'm guessing that Blizzard isn't going a very good job on their end.
Yeah, judging by lots of fan forums around the web, the security is really bad because there's so many getting hacked. Blizzard said yesterday that no account with an authenticator got hacked so far, so that's step 1 in making sure you get to keep your guy.
If you do get hacked, contact blizzard and they will rollback your guy.
smeh. I had an authenticator for the old republic. That was pretty seamless and easy to use (open iphone app, click button, get code number, enter code number into the game). Not really sure what they have on the diablo3 side of things, but I'll be looking into it as well.
Yeah, I'm using an authenticator now. There are a ridiculous number of posts all over the internet about how bad hacking is in this game. Something is very wrong, but it seems like authenticators will actually secure your account. They are basically a necessity right now for D3, which is kind of sad.
You had to drop like 6 bucks or something to get the authenticator, right?
You can get an app for smartphones for free.
Yeah, Im just using the free smartphone app.
iphone app?
And now the AH is taking money, but not giving players items. As in, you spend the gold, but get nothing. It's apparently happening to almost everybody.
Also, there are now quite a few reports of people getting hacked even if they have authenticators.
This is going to be hilarious when the real money AH goes live.
won't go live. Side note - hackers = FUCKING retards (yes - i know its vulgar). I mean seriously - you find a way to work the system... and so you do that when "gold" is on the line. No reason to wait for real money. Best to use things right now, eh. Great job, folks.
