Here is my suggestions for some minor alterations to the HUD icons. Mostly it involves changing the lock icons to something a bit more helpful so you can tell locked resources from locked champions and locked quests. I also suggest changing the enemy champion icon from the same as a monster lair to the champion icon, but in the same color as the monster lairs. Also, captured monster lairs that you can build on should be changed to the monster icon, but made the same color as resources, signifying that you can build there. Maybe they could make different resource icons for the different types of resources so you could see what was what at a glance.
Here is a mockup of a screen with the different icons.
Superb!
That looks so much more clear! I didn't even need to zoom in to see what was what.
Great!
Those are very nice.
One of the suggestions I've made is to differentiate between the different levels (medium, strong, epic especially) of quest huts. I had suggested that the tooltip do it, do you think that the icon colors could also do it?
Good going DexCisco!
Perhaps you could do slight variations on the quest icon, (I, II, III, IV) but I think if you get too many icons and colors going on it becomes a bit of a mess. I think if the tooltips showed it that would be sufficient.
Totally makes sense and an easy change that adds to usability. SD- how about it?
Awesome idea!
One caution. I have a lot of problem with icons that are different by color being color-blind. The game needs a way to differ the HUD icon in addition to color.
How about combing a color difference with a small lock icon in one of the corners of the HUD icon? Or a small X in a corner?
As it stands right now, you can (in most cases) tell when something is locked, but not what it is. If you change it to be based on color, you cause problems for color-blinded folks. Maybe a combo of color plus icon is the winner.
ME LIKE VERY MUCH
I looked in the XML for where the icons are associated with the various locations to see if I could try modding this up, but I couldn't find anything. It may be only available in the code. Otherwise you could create a colorblind mod for people such as yourself to make things easier. Maybe SD could shift these associations to the XML so such a thing could be possible, if they don't have the time to do such a thing themselves.
As always, good idea, Dex.
Great idea!
I like the idea, but I still think the picture should be slightly different instead of just a different colour. (like a soldier with arms crossed, instead of a soldier ready for battle, just a thought.
