OK, the dev's said there will be a clues in Rebellion as to what is chasing the Vasari and apparently it's not Sam Neil returning in a ship that vanished into a black hole for fifty years.
They also suggested that they thought it was possible some might get it rather quickly.
To this end, I posit my guess.
I kept noticing in the varying screen shots the new Vasari ships. We know the Vasari are quite happy to have institutionalized slavery and to force it on advanced but less powerful empires.
There's one theme in all the ships I saw..."Bugs Mr. Rico...zillions of 'em!".
I suggest the Vasari "assimilated" a space-faring insect species and experimented on them to gain their weapons and travel capabilities.
Ever poke a stick into a wasp hive? I did once. There was a wee hole in the ground about three inches deep with a single yellow jacket in the bottom of it. I killed it with a stick and then discovered that it was the entrance to a hive.
Ever see the cartoons where the moving swarm comes out after the cartoon character? That's what happened. A massive "nanite" cloud of angry wasps came out and chased my brother and I to the back door of my grandmother's house. She wouldn't open it because they were bouncing off the screen like machine gun bullets. We ran to the front door on the other side of the house and when she got there, she couldn't open it either as they had followed us around.
Finally my aunt let us in and threw wet blankets over us and brushed us off with brooms. I had been stung 32 times and had wasps in my nostrils, the corner of my eyes, between all of my fingers and dozens embedded by stingers in my belt, shoes and jeans. The city sent an extermination crew out the next day and after gassing the hive dug it open. It was 4 feet deep, 15 feet wide and 32 feet long.
I believe the Vasari poked a stick into a hive and now the swarm is after them.
If I am vetted officially at some point as being correct, I prefer to be thereafter referred to by name with the honorific, "Most Mighty and Wise" prefacing it.
Thank you.
euclidian geometry is false anyhow...
It's all just a metaphor for avoiding being purchased by EA.
Rather than Bugs(Tyranids/Zerg copy), i think its more of a supernatural enemy...
Usually battle hardened authoritarian empires will go insane when they are exposed to the supernatural enemy, cos its not something they can physically hammer and kill...
So i'd say they opened a portal to another dimension, much like the Immaterium/Warp of Chaos like in Warhammer 40k...
Khorne is invading the Vasari Empire.......
Ya know, Robert Heinlein introduced "bugs" in Starship Troopers back in 1959. I think he gets credit for Starcraft copying him.
I'm old school.
I hope its not bugs - ive never enjoyed fighting them in games - they work ok on TV or movies but games with bugs are far too frantic for my liking.
A few RTS games have done bugs - conquest frontier wars is a space based RTS game and that had a bug race called the mantis because they where bugs their biggest ships where just queens that swapned countless fights/bombers in quick succession. - if the new race are bugs id expect them to be like the vasari faction that apparently has a mobile "homeworld" - so the bugs might have a mobile queen/homeworld - in any case they will be all about the numbers/swarming which as i said is too frantic for my taste.
Id like it to be a another non humanoid race - - its very difficult to have a new concept in scifi species and i know these have been done before but what i would like to see as a new race is something like this -
AI - a race of super intelligent artificial intelligences
Avians - a race of birds that have evolved to build and use advanced tech / space travel
Aquatics - a race thats native habbit is water that have evolved to build and use advanced tech / space travel - however requiring waterworlds for colonyisation would be tricky
Id love to see a species so advance that their entire civisilation exists inside a Dyson sphere - would also explain why the vasari a race that controls or used to control a massive amount of territory not discovering or even hearing about them from the races they conquered
So I feel compelled to point out...you can't have a unique race chasing the Vasari. It's simply not possible. Whatever they come up with will have already been done somewhere else in some form of media, in multiple variations in the past. Originality is no longer an option in anything. Might have been a few decades ago, and could've been for centuries to come if it weren't for our culturally bankrupt society's self-destructively insatiable hunger for "new, new, new". If they'd just kept the "new" ideas subtle and infrequent, it would've been many decades at least before any kind of rehashing were done, and even then it would have been completely unnoticeable.
There are a nearly infinite number of ideas in the universe (or other universes, if there are any), but only an infinitesimally tiny fraction of them are actually constructively viable in any kind of way. There are endless ways to make a light bulb, but only a handful will make one that actually works. The same is true of all things, even purely abstract concepts. We're now at a point where absolutely everything is some kind of rehash of something prior...or it's just a really crappy, nonfunctional idea. And that's that, period.
The game is already somewhat guilty of it. The TEC is every conventional human faction that's ever existed in any game. They're so cliche it's almost impossible to actually notice. It's just the way they're "supposed" to be. The advent are pretty obviously psychic Borg with Hiigaran flavor. The Vasari are a direct derivative of the Antarans from MoO II. And each of those are based off of even older concepts, such as the Hebrew exodus from Egypt, the Borg being bionic zombies (thank you Alfre Woodard), and the Antarans being nothing more than alien Nazis.
As long as rehashes are done tastefully, with refinement and subtle variation, there's no problem. But you can't have something that's never been done before. Not unless you're willing to accept something that's utterly dysfunctional crap.
That said, the game is still pretty good, and still has potential to remain so, maybe even become significantly better. We'll just have to wait and see, and maybe contribute old ideas that aren't part of it yet that might make it better. As it stands, I'm liking the beta so far and I'm glad I pre-ordered. I'm still optimistic for Sins 2 if it ever comes to be, new original race notwithstanding.
Never jump into phase space after midnight with space ponies onboard.
They transform into the insane horrors known as the space pownies. And they sing and sing and sing until people start tearing off their eyeballs - even though it's music they are listening - and beg to be devoured, which the space pownies promptly do with pleasure, decent and ethical beings that they are, respecting other beings will, even if they are suicidal wishes.
And they advance relentlessly in their onslaught of flesh-eating madness, subjugating any and all with their lovely songs of friendship and care and lollipops and cotton candy and TEAR OFF YOUR EYEBALLS let's be friends, let's be friends we are colorful and jump and play all day, TEAR OFF YOUR EYEBALLS we are friends, we are friends! We'll EAT YOUR FLESH because we are your best friends!
It the secret Pony Level!!!
a race of cake that eats you.
I accept apologies in the form of checks or cash.
Isn't that in Alice in Wonderland?
If not, it should be...
"eat me"
you see why the vasari filed? LOL
SithlordAJ doesn't eat, the mask doesn't come off. He has to use a straw. "Slurp me" however just sounds icky.
I bet he likes those volcano desserts best.
That's right.... the Vasari are running from ME. I caused an entire race to flee in fear.
Now.... What's up? You trying to insult me?! Seriously?!
don't make me spawn a Leviathan Sith BS over your house. I have dev.exe and not afraid to use it. muahahahaha.
I will point out an exact quote from the Box version I have from Sins......
"...an ancient alien civilization running from a terror of their own creation..."
I am pretty sure that eliminates alien bugs from the list...and ponies...
You tellin' me the Vasari didn't create any form of Space Ponies?
The way the Vasari Loyalists are acting, I would have figured that they have been running from -The Vasari- and the original generation that remembers that their bretheren have become obsessed with stripping every single world they encounter have died off and only managed to instill in their children the fact that they need to run. So then the children eventually grow up, keep running, then go 'we really need to get out of this system before THEY get here... we should blow up this planet.' And the only reason they are ahead of the other group is that the other group is too busy eating all the planets to care.
Or nanites, of course. But I'm guilty of skipping to the last page of this, not reading the lore, and not reading that nice link to all the other theories. In other words, I am the Vasari running away from the Vasari that are running away from the Vasari.
However, I do have a question. Once this threat IS revealed [unless they decide "you know what, it isn't true after all"], do you really think there'll be space for another race/faction? One that would be a new take play-wise that doesn't step too much on everyone else AND is up for diplomacy? I guess the Vasari may have misjudged them... or maybe Sins first Campaign with a full enemy-only faction? Again, guilty for skipping a ton of posts, so ignore this if anyone already asked/answered.
I want to be able to kill some dam robots. be they reapers, terminators, borg or just a bunch of R2D2s I want to kill robots! also it would fit, vasari presing buton, activating robot. never stoping, robots don't need to stop, eat or sleep. "...an ancient alien civilization running from a terror of their own creation..." ROBOTS! they can think faster then us, move faster then us, jamm faster then us and fire faster then us, ROBOTS!!!
Skynet ftw!
*Insert welcoming of new robotic overlords here.*
I like the terminators because they don't smack talk--they just get ya.
I think it's a joint effort from TEC, Advent and Vasari from the future.
The future TAV coalition discovered, after billions of years, close to the death of our universe, that it would be possible to open a rift and jump into another, younger universe. But they were already beyond the universal expansion curve where resources were already to far away an rarefied inside or universe, to the point that gathering energy spent more than it collected, beyond any hope.
They discovered, though, that they could use the same principles - which are connected to a much more advanced technology, based on the principles of phase jumping - they could use all their remaining energy reserves to send a small group back in time.
The objective would be to form a TAV alliance long before the point of no return in the universe expansion curve, so that resource can be gathered for the interverse jump.
Trying to contact people from the past to prepare their coming was disastrous though, since they fed them too much information, and that caused severe mental instability on the listeners. Messages were often misunderstood as threats of destruction from an 'alien' species, which are only alien from that time, being the descendants of the listeners.
Eventually the TAV coalition reluctantly decided to do a violent incursion, knowing very well that their primitive ancestors were engulfed into an economy of war, and were too belligerant-minded to listen to reason.
With broken hearts, they jumped into the past to wage war on their ancestors, with their hearts sunken into a deep sorrow for each of their beloved ones they had to kill, for their own survival.
That is their sin, that is their sacrifice, even though they are ones sacrificing themselves, for they will not survive this universe's end, but they meet their fate gracefully in the hope that those who came before them learn from their mistakes, and run for their survival while there's time.
In truth, they are fighting as a mighty force, which no single race can defeat, so that their ancestors can form and fight as the TAV alliance, against this mighty TAV coalition (from the future), which is actually fighting a war they wish to lose with all their hearts, but will only accomplish what they need to if they fight with all the fiber of their will.
[time-travel plots are mind-twisting eh?]
As long as I get to preserve my brain in an indestructable, un-stoppable robotic body, I'm totally there.
