OK, the dev's said there will be a clues in Rebellion as to what is chasing the Vasari and apparently it's not Sam Neil returning in a ship that vanished into a black hole for fifty years.
They also suggested that they thought it was possible some might get it rather quickly.
To this end, I posit my guess.
I kept noticing in the varying screen shots the new Vasari ships. We know the Vasari are quite happy to have institutionalized slavery and to force it on advanced but less powerful empires.
There's one theme in all the ships I saw..."Bugs Mr. Rico...zillions of 'em!".
I suggest the Vasari "assimilated" a space-faring insect species and experimented on them to gain their weapons and travel capabilities.
Ever poke a stick into a wasp hive? I did once. There was a wee hole in the ground about three inches deep with a single yellow jacket in the bottom of it. I killed it with a stick and then discovered that it was the entrance to a hive.
Ever see the cartoons where the moving swarm comes out after the cartoon character? That's what happened. A massive "nanite" cloud of angry wasps came out and chased my brother and I to the back door of my grandmother's house. She wouldn't open it because they were bouncing off the screen like machine gun bullets. We ran to the front door on the other side of the house and when she got there, she couldn't open it either as they had followed us around.
Finally my aunt let us in and threw wet blankets over us and brushed us off with brooms. I had been stung 32 times and had wasps in my nostrils, the corner of my eyes, between all of my fingers and dozens embedded by stingers in my belt, shoes and jeans. The city sent an extermination crew out the next day and after gassing the hive dug it open. It was 4 feet deep, 15 feet wide and 32 feet long.
I believe the Vasari poked a stick into a hive and now the swarm is after them.
If I am vetted officially at some point as being correct, I prefer to be thereafter referred to by name with the honorific, "Most Mighty and Wise" prefacing it.
Thank you.
lol @ the story sinperium.
You very well could be right, bugs make for an excellent adversary. This would make sense why the vasari are so strong in nanite technology, small things to combat small things.
I just hope the devs don't go all "omg, zerg 2.0!"
On another note, I was walking through the forest one day with my brother when he stepped on the entrance to a wasp hive in the ground. All of a sudden he said "run"! and bolted past me... He says he still feels guilty for leaving me there to this day...lol.
I paused there looking at him like "wtf?" but then I ran after him, figuring he'd spotted a bear or a cougar (we lived deep in the forest halfway up a mountain, where these predators were regularly encountered). Turns out I got needled in my back a few times, I remember thinking to myself, "those cheap little bastards, I wish I could hit them with a stick instead of having to run! Yes I regularly swore like an adult when I was 6...They chased us for about half a mile until we got safely inside. If i'd been a slow fat kid I might have been a goner .
Its no coincidence that certain members of this community get chased by bugs-it does not mean there brave-nor curious-nor attractive. It just means some people need to be chased away by bugs-should they escape then we all moan for nature failing to balance its-self.
@sareth01...
When a person with a tense face running at full speed shoots past you and says, "RUN!"--do it without stopping to figure out why 'cause they sure as heck won't stop then to explain it to you. Good advice for life. I was a steam propulsion engineer in the Navy for several and trust me--you run. Never regretted it a single time.
I don't know if bugs is the answer but it fits "sins" far bette than "nanites"--unless they came from an extra-dimensional hell and are brought back by Sam Neil.
I don't know why but that's only film that has scared me in a looong time.....
It's so obvious, why toy with tangential notions:
Vasari Mystery
Hmm, well I learned this far earlier then you did, that is apparent(I was six). Don't lecture me. I was a submariner and I never had to learn in the navy, I used things that I already knew to adapt and overcome the bullshit. Anyways, your poor attempt to inflict some personal injury by making fun of my story shows everyone how petty you are. I share in good faith and you attack me...what a little piece of crap you are. Also, this demonstrates to all that you have low mental resistance to my.."charms". I don't like beating up on the weak. Now that I have discovered your weakness I'll stop, only if you apologize.
I agree with your self perception riddle king, you are a pervasive little bug. There is something wrong with our society when pervasive bugs are actually listened to.
Riddle king, your inappropriate use of "there" should be "they're".
Anyways, enough with dealing with idiots, they always take the most time because they need to be taught the most.
I already know something about the vasari ancient enemy as well.
Since they haven't really given us a traditional storyline, I would say the vasari enemy is going to be in sins 2.0 .
Its a game changer, and after rebellion has launched they will release sins 2 information that they are most likely working on RIGHT NOW.
I'm not the one who got chased by bugs-don't turn this around on me. I'm the innocent 1 here-im bug free. I'm just hinting to the fact that maybe there was a reason the both of you got chased by bugs. Your so uptight sareth- your such a girl.
Its also nice you are my grammar and spellchecker. I love you
hah you make a situational implication and think that since you weren't explicit you are not implying anything. Its a tactic that works on people that aren't versed in argument. Needless to say, it doesn't work on me.
See yet again, riddle king proves my point, that idiots need the most assistance.
On another note, the vasari Ancient enemy had better be something unique... I have stated before it will be super annoying if it is zerg 2.0...
I think you're confused on what you just said there because im not confused- Makes perfect sense.
You have now introduced confusion into this discussion because you don't know what i'm talking about. PLEASE, save everyone the trouble of cleaning up your ignorance publicly by looking up what some words mean in private.
On another note,
The vasari ancient enemy Should be a very new and unique playable race... We should help the developers come up with ideas so that this race truly is VERY unique combat wise from the other races.
Time to think outside the box people.
@sareth...
Emo much?
I wasn't ridiculing you--just agreeing. Yes, I had no common sense when I before I joined the military--duh. My point was common sense goes up a notch in the military when you work in places where things explode and cook you like a lobster from the inside out in less than in thirty seconds. In those sort of situations, the phrase, "Run!" takes on a whole new meaning.
And by the way, at five I was in a foxhole in Vietnam keeping my whole platoon alive during the Tet offensive.
Clearly Kony got his child soldier tactics from the US military...
I also watched c-beams glitter in the dark at the Tannhauser Gate.
The key is the lab. Something the vasari were working on went way off. Most likely a new nanotechnology with either Artificial Intelligence or Artificial Life like in Crichton's PREY where the nanites employed swarm behavior and learned rapidly. They use nanotechnology to augment their bodies and those of slaves. To have driven the Dark Fleet loony, the nanoswarm would have not only taken over the bodies, but also taken over any vessels making them 'living' and hybridized them. All the vasari and slave races acting as one and having a Vasari Colony capitalship talk to you with thousands of voices and even pulsate with nanoplating like a living ship would likely do the job.
Or hell, it could be SHODAN or The Many
Okay, lets get into the communication breakdown analysis. Here is where it broke down.
You are replying to my post, yet you are using it as a command. You may think this irrelevant, yet this comes across as a negative implication. That is the tone and actual use of your language. "do it" is a command, plain and simple. This is precisely where you imply that you are giving me advice, which is not welcome.
If you desire to agree, simply agree. This medium of communication doesn't do well with implications, which is why so much negativity is thrown around. Also reinterpretation only serves to discredit you, as anyone with the ability to "sit in another's shoes" would see the logic of what i've said.
There is nothing emotional about it, if you had been face to face i would have asked you politely to shut the fuck up(but then that is a different communication medium). Nothing emotional about it...fighting is a natural form of male communication. I don't get emotional when I fight. I only project emotion into my opponent to force them to start thinking emotionally so that I can kick their ass(a trick i learned as a foster child, survival tactic). Its worked many times, mainly on the weak minded. This is also another reason why I was so talented at soccer, i'm great at getting into people's heads and unmaking them in front of their entire team. I would get emotional about the situation if I didn't stand up for myself.
I don't let anyone tread on me for a moment, I am much like the old American flag that says "Don't Tread on me". I don't care if its a tiny little brush up against my scales, you'll get bitten. This is similar to the legal philosophy that by touching someone against their will, you have assaulted them. In the instance of what you said above, you have implied that you were giving me advice, and i'll not stand for it, as it wasn't asked. I felt like my person was being marginalized by your words and therefore I was being "touched" against my will. If you want to laugh at the fact that I feel, I will laugh at the fact that you also feel. its a lose lose situation, so why do you create it in the first place? Go hurry up and play the victim so that you can rely on social stupidity to save your argument.
I read your theory. That was Genghis Khan. The only difference was that it was in space. Genghis. That is all it is.
Some people are just way to serious (hint: we don't actually care).
Right back at you. What's different about rebellion that supports your conclusion?
The Vasari have always had a 'bug-theme'. The first quarter of your post is laying out the 'rules' for your idea. Then you say 'hey, those look like bugs!', then suggest that, maybe there were slave-bugs. Which, while entirely possible, is not supported by any facts. The whole other half of your post is your story suggesting how dangerous a swarm of bugs can be, which has absolutely no bearing on whether that is what is chasing the Vasari.
Now, that's not to say you can't make wild guesses. I just thought it was hypocritical of you to jump on someone else when your guess has no more evidence than theres.
And now, I shall make a wild guess with no evidence: I think the Vasari's technology grew into an AI. They have nanites everywhere, and that could drive crews insane. If there was evidence in rebellion to support this, it would be along the lines of mind controlling nanites, or some general theme of AI in the Vasari's new abilities.
Edit: Argh, didn't see the 2nd page, and now I see I'm not the only one with this idea. Oh well.
The newer big ships don't just have some bug-like elements--they look like darn bugs--every one of the new ships.
So while I am speculating (which I did say I was) you could say, "Yeah--there are some new and more prominent bugs in place in Rebellion".
The Vasari ships have always had some insect parts on them but in Rebellion the new ships look much more like insects.
Nanites have always been in the game--something introduced in Rebellion regarding them should be seen if they are the actual bad guys. It's still early in the beta and we haven't seen all the assets--I'm throwing out things for fun is all.
Also--I'm not saying, "My idea is better" just that I saw things in the new release that made me consider it. I'd always thought nanites were the surprise but it would be fun to be wrong too.
I just want to see the clues the devs say will be in here and also have a thread that isn't a re-hash of all the old ideas we've heard people throw about since the original game release.
actually you don't have the right to use the royal "we" in this situation. You imply a large group of people, yet I only see your emotional investment in this topic. Using the "I don't care" defense is a double edged sword, as it also discredits you because you can't actually stand up to rational thought. Also, you already proved that you DO care, because you chose to open up a thread on the topic and invested the time. Don't capitulate, adapt and overcome.
I'm glad you took my suggestion to rely on social stupidity as your next move in the discussion. I enjoyed being able to predict your next move in such an open way.
Also, FYI, i'm not serious at all, in fact i'm a very silly and playful individual. My play might not always be fair, yet it still is playful at its core. After all, words can never hurt you. .
If you want to get out your angst that has built up, play me in a game of sins tomorrow, before 3pm PST, as I have the day off.
Well, almost never. Someone screaming into a megaphone 1 inch from your ear can hurt pretty badly.
I admit that isn't the case here... but still...
Ok This is my theory.
1. Vasari was strong with slavery
2. Phasic space and nanites
3. Causing a crew to go insane with telepath powers is more advent. I think it is the total annihilation of the largest fleet ever seen what drove them mad.
4. It is following and we WILL see it.
5. All three races may overcome their differences to fight it (Hence diplomacy)
6. Ancient race (Artifacts)
It is possible that the vasari released and ancient evil that was sealed away in phasic space. Hence the enemy could specialize in everything and would make a great campaign for the sins 2. Bugs, Replicators (idea from stargate), sealed ancient race, or gentically altered slave like the fall of the roman empire.
Interesting idea. Although, if that were the case, opening phase gates to bring remnants of the Dark Fleet back would more likely bring this ancient enemy. And if something was locked in phase space and didn't need to leave it to survive, wouldn't it have caught up to the Vasari by now? The Vasari have to eat and stuff, so they leave phase space.
I have always thought some kind of unification/linking of the 3 races from before the war might be what was intended. The Advent probably got their societal tendencies from some other race or some writings by the ancient race that pursuits the Vasari. At least, that's how I'd do it if I was writing the backstory.
The Ancients would be cool. But where are the "Sins" that come to bear. The devs have already said each race is guilty of something specific to themselves.
And what would you know of our royal lineage vassal? We play at our own pleasure..and we have to work tomorrow. Still, the outcome was inevitable that you would perish at our hands--hence the battle needed not be fought anyway.
If they don't care, they probably wouldn't be posting in this thread. Perhaps Sinperium is merely the only one who cares to tell you.
