Hi All
Just wanted to share with you guys the best loyalist strategy in existence... That I came up with as a final attempt or it was an inevitable defeat for me...
We all know of the "Militia Weaponry" and "Militia Armour" research options under the Loyalist Defence Tree, and for this to work those 2 techs are vital.
Basic story is this, fighting my friend MathXTC in a 6 player FFA with 4 Hard AI's, we both ended up opposite each other and both eventually ended up meeting, the result - a line of heavily fortified worlds, Loyalist Style.
For a few hours it was just build up big fleet, send fleet in, lose fleet, build bigger fleet, repeat and it wasn't getting anywhere even after Nova bombing neutralizing loyalist benefits... Our defences were just too strong for each other, and I had the minority of worlds (had an ugly start with a rather unusually aggressive and powerful AI)... And my income was struggling to keep up with this, so I planned this, and it worked.
Targeted an asteroid of his, Nova'd it, and sent in my fleet along with 30 torpedo crusiers (bye bye star bases). By the time his second star base went up in flames, his fleet of 1 lv 4 Titan, 4 KOLs (all lv5+) and frigate spam entered the ring and my lv 6 Titan along with a Kol, Akkan and Sova + some Hoshis and LRMs ended up locking in an epic slug fest, and It was going in his favor.
Then I sent in a little Protev and captured the asteroid and built 2 star bases at the edge of the gravity well, so I had 2 side by side docking boom and aux government star bases with a lv 6 Titan and a much-smaller-than-it-originally-was fleet in my own gravity well gaining the benefits of Loyalist "Turtling"
His numbers started dropping drastically, and my Titan turned into an invincible death machine, he tried to escape, but had such little health left that when he jumped out my star bases jump damage thingy killing his Titan (only ship he had left), and he quit the game
EDIT: just to let everyone know we are new to SoaSE, and by god damn hell it's a good game
One has to realize why didn't you just go around the defenses or find a wormhole if this was a random map (maybe pre-made) to backstab your emeny. Phase jump inhibitors don't cover an entire gravity well for a planet. Does for an astroid. Even then you could have taken a large number of carriers and bomb those structures and make a dash for it.
Also you should really stop using that many KOLs. Kols are good for tanking and using flak but you don't need that many. Tell your friend to diversify his capital ship fleet.
The fact that I haven't entered the beta aside (stupid bank account doesn't like paypal), unless balance and flow got drastically changed, games shouldn't have hours of back-and-forth like that. Also, capitals generally don't get that high, especially Kols. Sure, they're nigh indestructible, but they really just defeat SC and things without shields. Now, once they reach lvl 6, they do start to become persistent little things that just won't die. Of course, they are also such AM hogs that they won't function well without AM support.
Also, why'd you need the Protev if you had an Akkan? Did the Akkan already have it's AM depleted from using it's ion cannon or did you just not give it the ability to colonize when upgrading?
I'm confused as to why you used a Sova against someone with that many Kols.. Sovas can put out missile batteries in small numbers, but against multiple Kols (typically two is enough provided they have AM support), any amount of SC is worthless, not to mention that missile batteries only have hull so they can get ripped apart by the GRG more easily than other things.
Why did he allow you to get two starbases up? From the sounds of it, they were in the same general area as the battle, so some simple focused fire during construction could have solved that. The battle was going in his favor you say. What stopped this?
Oh, and when you got two starbases up plus your titan, why did he bother trying to keep fighting.
He had more resources than you. In a war of attrition like that (even though it shouldn't have taken nearly that long), the one with the better economy (and in general, the most worlds) wins unless they can't fight. He could have beaten you (unless I'm missing something) by simply keeping the pressure up on your world. Also, because of his massed Kols and your lack of flak, he could have bomber-spammed your fleet to oblivion.
Now, I could be missing something as perhaps the new researchables for Rebellion change balance, but from what I can tell, he just played poorly and this has nothing to do with it being a spectacular strategy.
The TEC Loyalists have research that gives large boosts to their damage and armour when in friendly gravity wells, that's why him capturing the well turned it around, those buffs are quite overwhelming. Though, really with that many capitals, diverting for 2 seconds to bomb as soon as OP colonized would have solved it.
or using is Akkan to cast armistis then the Red Button works fine too.
Please provide replay of this game
Yeayh well I am trying to lure the AI's Turtler Titan in my TWIN red button station with the armistis akkan but it's turtling it's own planet...
I'll try to hot drop a overirde protocol, maybe that will do it!
You can't kill titan with red button.
applies to capital ships too
well armistis is for your fleet fleet, so you have a lot of HC and stuff left.
You mean it won't damage or kill a Cap? Even the Twin Red Button Starbase? You don;t have 1 of those now, you have 2!!!!
Two argonev with safety will dent is fleet, armistics means you have a full fleet left to punch is titan down.
First off, my Sova stayed at my 2 star bases with 5 bomber sqadrons, deploying missile platforms in range and 2, my Akkan was locked in battle and was running low on antimatter.
There were no wormholes in my area and there were around 5 approach points... So it wasn't hard to heavily fortify them.
His star bases had no reaction timeeither... My 30 torpedo crusiers has them destroyed in seconds
And in terms of the lack of flak on his side, his 4 KOL all had flak burst and his Titan had well, it's flak cannons. My strike craft certainly had a hard time that's for sure
And another final note, I edited my post explaining that we are new... So we are still trying to work everything out

Sins is meant to be like that, my shortest games take six to nine hours while a typical one takes 24 hours from beginning to end. Either way the game is supposed to be a time consumer, if it were any different it would not be as epic as it is.
I think Sins is appealing for so many different people because a game can be finished in an hour or two, which is nice for the adrenaline multiplayer junkies, but also in more than ten hours on large maps, which is also a good thing because some folks like to just take it easy and expand slowly. This is what makes this game so strong.
If you're taking it easy, sure. But if you're actively trying to wipe people out, it doesn't take nearly that long.
preety sure red button does 75% damage to caps and titans...(?)
and then there is shield mitigation and armor.
