Stardock has said that they are working on a collector's edition for Rebellion, but have not given much details on it, except that it would be in boxed form direct from Stardock only, and that if they do decide to do it (they seem to be not sure as of yet) it will have something very big in it.
I know that this is exactly the thing I have been waiting for from Rebellion, and I am more excited for the collector's edition than I am for any of the added game play features. I was really disappointed when Stardock said that they had canceled a retail boxed edition, but I would be devastated if they did not release the collector's edition.
If they did release a collector's edition, I would be overjoyed and buy it as soon as possible. That would more than make up for the canceled retail edition, because I would always like a nice collector's edition more than a regular retail version. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to me that Stardock send Sins of a Solar Empire out with a bang (in terms of boxed awesomeness), especially as after Rebellion the next Sins of a Solar Empire will likely be a number 2, and that won't be for a long while.
That said, I have some recommendations for what to include to make this collector's edition fantastic. I was disappointed with the stuff in the regular Sins collector's edition, and saw no reason to buy it especially as I could get the sweetest part, the soundtrack CD, in the Game of the Year Edition. I don't see any need for a tech-tree poster this time (I personally think they are dumb).
These are just some shots of the (in my opinion) mildly disappointing Sins of a Solar Empire Collector's edition.
However, I feel that a new soundtrack CD is badly needed, as the additions made in the micro-expansions and now Rebellion will substantially increase the musical library of Sins. So much that it might take more than one CD to hold all of the game soundtrack. But this is exactly what I want in this collector's edition: I want the entire Sins of a Solar Empire soundtrack with all of its additions in CD form. I bought the Game of the Year edition for exactly this purpose, but now with the additions I feel it is that time when there should be a new soundtrack released. Because I do so enjoy the music of Sins of a Solar Empire.
As far as that big thing goes, what I would very much like would be a model of one of the titans or capital ships on a display stand with a little placard telling the name of the ship and "Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion" in an awesome font. What would make it even more awesome is of the ship was in its faction colors and insignia. And to top it all off, have a little hatch to open where batteries could be placed to make the ship light up.
Other things that would make the collector's edition of Rebellion great would be a big, thick manual in color containing little pictures of the ships for each faction and a little back story behind them, a great, thick paperboard box with cool screen shots and a little summary of how awesome Sins Rebellion is. I always put my favorite game boxes up on display in my room and I always read through the manual of the game when I am installing it or when I get very bored. A small, hardcover art book containing concept art of the ships and some small interviews with the concept artists would also be very nice to include.
I am very confident that Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion will be awesome, but I fear that Stardock will cancel the collector's edition merely because it would be a lot of work and a lot of money. To that I say I will pay whatever it takes to purchase one of these, even if it is $100. It better have the coolness to back its price up.
If anyone has any information about the collector's edition that I missed or has any ideas or things to say about it, feel free to post them here.
I just checked the latest interview with RTSGuru, and in it they say that Rebellion will include "all of the features, further enhanced, from previous installments."
I would say that this means that Rebellion includes everything from Entrenchment, Diplomacy, and the original Sins.
Rebellion includes all of the past content/features, but will not contain individual exes like Trinity did.
Thank you for taking that troll off of the forums, Yarlen, and off of this post.
So I was correct that Rebellion does include all of Entrenchment and Diplomacy, but it will not contain them in separate chunks. Is this what "exes" means? I am not terribly experienced in the developer and internet lingo and actually just learned what the word "troll" means last week when not referring to the creature or ugly doll.
Thank you for replying, Yarlen, but is it confirmed that there will be a collector's edition or not? This is what I would really like to know. I don't even need to know what would be in it, I just want to have the certainty that there will be a Rebellion Collector's Edition.
If you have bought any of the games before you would realized that diplomacy and entrenchment and the vanilla sins all have their own programs, like diplomacy.exe or entrenchment.exe. But if you have rebellion it has all three + rebellion stuff in the files and the file for rebellion is rebellion.exe.
I have actually owned one original Sins of a Solar Empire, one Game of the Year Edition, and two copies of Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity and also bought a copy for my friend. So I have owned the games before Sins Rebellion.
As for the "exes" thing, I thank you for clearing up that little query. I did notice the separate programs in Trinity, and wondered why they would do this and not just make one program, that being Sins Trinity with all of the content from the original Sins of a Solar Empire and its two micro-expansions. I simply did not know or recall these as being called "exes".
But thank you, ice27828, for evidencing how Rebellion includes all of the other content because you must own the beta, whereas I so not because I am waiting for that collector's edition.
There will be a Collector's Edition, though it won't be made available for sale until we know what final pricing will be. There will be a _very_ limited supply of it this time around; since we're not doing retail, we're only making a small batch of them. Once they're gone, they're gone; we won't be making more. Lastly, it will be pretty expensive (cause of the small run size and what we're putting into it).
muahahaha
I'll buy em all up
-Where do I preorder the collectors edition?
-Where? Where!? WHERE? Take my moneeeey...
*Ahem.*
That's pretty much how I feel right now.
Yarlen, thank you so, so very much for responding. I was almost losing hope.
Reserve a copy for me.
Please, whatever it costs, I will pay it. Sins of a Solar Empire deserves this from me. If there is truly a collector's edition, I will pay its price. I am sure that it will be of the high quality that Ironclad holds their products to. You have restored my crazed excitement for Rebellion, and I thank you, Yarlen.
If there is any way that I can reserve a copy, whether that is by putting a non-refundable deposit down or something else to secure this collector's edition, I will gladly pay or do it. If it really is very, very limited, so much so that if I am a few days or even hours late to the "order" button it will be impossible to get one, I would really appreciate a "reserve" button, even if it means putting down some money to hold my spot. Because this is what I really want from Rebellion.
What he said.
I'll sell my children's kidneys to finance getting the collector's edition, if that's what it takes.
I would like to get a collector's edition as well, but I do not think that I will go that extreme. You better not let your kids see this.
I wonder when it will be available for sale/preorder - any time estimate, Yarlen?
Children backing out of the room slowly...
It would be most disappointing if only like the first 1000 people got the Collector's Edition...
I really hope that's not what you mean by -VERY LIMITED-
so please, make it so we can reserve copies, and then make enough to go around for each of us...
I'd hate to get one while, say Yottsu doesn't... I'd feel rather badly...
My duty has been fulfilled, then.
There will be a collector's edition for Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion. With this I leave the post which I have so faithfully slaved upon to this end. I have completed my task, now all that there is left is a bit of patience and a bit of money changing hands and the collector's edition will be here, in my house, with me playing it happily. And when I am not playing it, I can stare at it and think about its glory and awesomeness.
Well, maybe not leave never to return. If I see any new news here, you can bet that I would post something in response.
And I hope that everyone else who has posted on this thread that also wants one of these collector's editions will be able to get one. I mean Yottsu, RedDwarf999, KrdaxDrkrun (man, that is hard to type), Ravagus, Marshal_Radagast, LupusVir, NR2001, GoaFan77 (sorry for spelling your name wrong the other times), Wunderbar_007, Timmaigh, CrimsonWarHawk, Nightraid3r, Pbhead, Unazaki, and even ice27828 (I'm not sure if you will buy one because you don't think that it should cost $100). I would also feel badly if some people were not able to buy it because they were simply too late to click the "pre-order" button. What I propose is that Stardock put a "pre-order collector's edition" button on the Sins store for a certain time and make however many were ordered in that time frame.
I will buy this collector's edition, that is a given. Well, hopefully. It would be really ironic if the person who created the "Rebellion Collector's Edition" post was too late to get one and ended up empty-handed. I am fairly positive that will not happen, though, because, as shown by this post, Stardock listens to their customers, and will put in the extra effort to please them if enough express interest. Therefore I don't think that they would make so few that we were all not able to buy one should it so please us, given that you had the money.
I am sure that the collector's edition will be worth every penny.
P.S.: I hope it doesn't take a child kidney to purchase the collector's edition. I am still in high school and have no children. Nor do I think I will have any before the early summer/late spring.
The stuff in the collector's edition.
How will we be able to put in our name to purchase this collector's edition?
To put your name in to receive a collectors edition first you must build us a shrubbery!!!! One that looks nice and not too expensive.

backs out of the room slowly...
I'm collecting bribes, but when we're ready to release it, we'll be sending out an email to all pre-order customers. First come, first served.
Never mind about the part in my previous post where I said I was done with this thread. It was an April Fool's joke. Or at least that's what I say now, over a month later and still waiting for some concrete news on what the collector's edition will be like.
If Yarlen took the time to find this post on the forums and reply to it after so long, he evidently thinks that there will be some collector's edition news soon. I must reply now. I have resisted long enough.
When I saw that post on the Twitter feed about the interesting picture in the inbox I knew what it had to be: the collector's edition. The next day I came to the computer and saw the picture of what looked like the box. Nice job on that, by the way. I liked it.
I'm hoping that the email that will be sent out will have a picture of the entire collector's edition and all of its contents. Or beforehand would be good too.
I am watching my email every day. Waiting. Waiting for the email that will come and allow me and all others to order that collector's edition. I hope I can get to my email quick enough so that I don't come too late.
I have a couple of shiny pennies here, Yarlen. No? Maybe dimes. Okay, quarters. A $20 bill. One hundred dollar bill. I want that collector's edition very badly. I have pre-ordered the game and stand at the ready.
I shall hang around this website until the collectors edition comes out. I WANT MY RAGNAROV MODEL!
Should be any day now I assume...setting homepage to email...
Posters are cool. Keep them.
I can tell you that this collectors edition will be like nothing else we've done before.
In fact....I just posted about how you can get one for free. Thank you for your feedback on this!
