In the Elemental downtime I've recently started playing Fall from Heaven (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=190) again after a long sabbatical from it. I'd actually forgotten how much fun it was and how great a game can be. Recently I've tried the Fall Further From Heaven Mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=313) and I've loved it. Some amazing features of this mod include new races, STABLE MULTIPLAYER, unit's requiring buildings (optional), great commanders that feel like Generals, and passive unit XP gain (my favorite feature). However, as much as I love FFfH I miss the espionage and unit diversity of some of the other mods.
I used to play the Orbis Mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=315887) but some of it's downloads have gone missing (ie. the primary download) and I remember having some major OOS errors with it. That being said, I remember Orbis having some great unit variety, interesting civilizations and traits, and espionage. Anyone know any mirrors one can download this or a place where I can upload my old copy for others to download?
I recently also tried out the Wildmana Mod (Master of Mana) (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=366) and found myself absolutely overwhelmed at all the new stuff and was quickly dominated by the AI and the barbarians. This mod was just too much for me.
I'm going to try Rise from Erebus Modmod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=360) today to see how it is. I just couldn't find much documentation as to the features of this mod to justify getting it before.
Anyways, I'm looking for a mod that has three things:
1) Good unit and civilization variety.
2) Stable multiplayer with minimum OOS errors.
3) Espionage!
Lastly, thanks to Kael, we have this amazing base for an awesome game and I think he's doing great things for Elemental. If you haven't tried Fall from Heaven yet... you really need to.
Have you tried Master of Mana? It's made by the same guy who made Wildmana. It's kinda new version of Wildmana, but not quite. I didn't play it though.

Woops, thought they were the same thing. It was the newest Master of Mana that I had tried, I was using the terms inappropriately. I had downloaded it from that subforum linking to the website. But, yes, found it a little too complex... interesting but complex. I know my MP friends wouldn't be able to get into it, FFH is hard enough as is. That being said, it looks like the most complex, magic heavy sort of mod for a good singleplayer game.
EDIT: Tried it again, was main world power but couldn't compete with the AI's military power. idk how they were building so many units with the city unitcap. Anyways, was overwhelmed and defeated... again, lol. MoM just isn't for me.
I've downloaded the Rise from Erebus Mod and it plays very similar to the FFfH Mod as it has commanders, passive XP, unit buildings, and just feels very similar. However, it seems to have more races, more leaders, and is also lacking espionage (darn). One thing I dislike is the heavy implementation of bombardment for a lot of units (including Ogres, what?) which complicates combat. idk if it was just my playthrough but it seemed to progress faster (construction and building-wise) then the FFfH Mod did, which is a plus.
EDIT: Was enjoying this mod but ran into multiplayer instability that couldn't be resolved. Thinking this is likely either due to the number of patches or the launcher.
I play the original in all Kael's glory, or Magister's Modmod, wherever that blasted link is. I like that neither mess with the nice 21 gods/21 civs/21 magic types balance Kael dreamt up.
You can find it on civfanatics.com, anyhow, in any of MagisterCultuum's posts, and it deepens a lot of the death/resurrection things. 'Tis good.
There was also a Tweakmod that was nice, but that got abandoned.
At the very least the "MoreNavalAI Mod" is a must. Started as a small project, but now is a comprehensive AI-improving patch. When I play FFH that's what I usually go with.
Wildmana had the best AI and the Better Naval Battles patch for the original came in a close second. Master of Mana was the designed in mind for more advanced users only but paid off with improved decision trees and dynamic complexity. Orbis had the best custom sound tracks and additional content. Rife later followed suit by adopting most of them. Big thumbs up, they were really good, fit the settings very well and each was triggered according to the religion you chose to adopt.
I'd agree "more naval AI mod" is the best because its well ... base FFH2 (Kael) stuff with ... better AI
although other than that, I like Magister Cultuum mod, Tweakmod, the early Wildmanas (before becoming Master of Mana), and of course my own mods
