Scouts take ages to clear mines in the beta.
It goes towards a mine, kills it, then goes back towards its original location (when normally moved to a planet, this would be the outer ring).
This way it takes ages for the scouts to clear mines.
Additionally when having several scouts, they all target the same mine, go towards it, kill it, and go back to their original spot only to repeat targeting a single mine again.
This strikes me as something horribly wrong with scout AI. Please have them chain-target mines and target seperate mines when multiple scouts are around.
Make a fleet with a scout and a few long range missile frigate... detection range from the scout is good but the firing range suck...
If you have a titan, use it with a scout for remove mines... gravity wheel fully filled is around 150 mines at 10 exp by mines... it is 1500 exp, and since titan can shoot far in any direction, mines are easy target...
I have a different problem... my scouts (both in Diplomacy and the beta) sit so the mine they are targeting is just out of range of the scan, making it so I can't clear mine fields unless I micro them (which is annoying).
Scouts excell at revealing a bunch of mines, but not at killng them, get some flak frigates or something to help them out.
Mines, bloody nightmare. Definitely need some Better AI to deal with them (both scout and all other ships in respect to mines).
Far too often scouts decide to illuminate mines...at the opposite end of the mine field, blowing themselves up before they even get there *facepalm*
their detection range might be good, but without micro, they only just move to the closest mine and thus won't reveal others.
I end up getting a bunch of scouts and having to single-select each of them to send them to some other direction in the grav well. If I don't do this, they spend eternity trying to collectively fly back and forth between single mines.
For me, Titan + a couple of scouts works fine. Just send them near the mines and they usually finished 90% of the mine field when you check back later.
Unrelated: Why would you tag a thread as [beta] in a betastage-game subforum?
group a few scout with some other ship like long range missile frigate in a single fleet... once you are in a gravity wells with mines, old the shif key and right click several times for create a path who go between/around mines group... in some way, you setup a patrol path who spare you a lot of real time micro...
Personally I find the mine detection by the scouts to have improved. You used to have to move the fleet yourself through the minefield. Now you just need to have the scouts in the fleet and then walk away as they will go hunting for the mines.
I'd prefer a scout would just clear out a gravity well. I hate having to micromanage them next to a batch of mines just so he takes it out.
Don't fighter and bombers take care of visible mines reasonably well? I'm not entirely familiar with the process, but I thought I had cleared them with those ship types before.
you need scouts to make mines target-able, whether by strike craft or anything else.
