The corvettes as currently configured are more like a modern Fast Attack Craft than a real sea going corvette. FACs are limited to coastal areas since they are not large enough for ocean travel. If they are to be like FACs then they should be limited to operation in a gravity well only. Another problem I have had with fighters and bombers is that they never need to be rearmed or refueled. Its like watching an old western movie where the six-shooter never runs out of bullets, it unrealistic. They need to go back to their ship/hanger for a set amount of time before they come back for combat.
Someone else just mentioned corvettes should be in a gravity well only. I really liked the idea and wrote my thoughts on it. I think it was Brazilian_joe.
There's the problem with realism or fun. Yes it would be more realistic if the fighters and bombers would have to dock to get ammo and fuel but Sins being the kind of game it is it would simply detract from the fun and fast paced action.
It would also increase the CPU load, since Strike Craft would also need to track munitions, in addition to everything else.
As to corvettes being in a gravity well only, if they were cheap enough, and had decent enough punch (as in better than current to offset them being defense only) then it'd finally give people a reason to station a ship building facility on more planets.
Umm, on the subject of 'unrealistic'... It's a GAME, about Space Ships, and Aliens.... What part of that seems real to you?
On a side note though, good idea for the corvettes acting like an upgrade to the strikecraft.
It could reduce lag to make them more robust ships with higher costs that can't leave a gravity well. I like the idea actually.
My primary concern with the corvettes right now is cpu /online lag and immature player abuse--both of which can ruin the play experience which outweighs most of their value then.
