Yes you can make 2000 Corvettes. Is it worth it? No. It totally bricks your machine. Even with everything set on low. It took me about 30 minutes to move to three planet systems. If you are feeling lucky and confident in your machine, go ahead and try it.
How viable are 2000 Corvettes? Well I only fought the pirates and the Artifact planet, but I killed everything because there are so many that the game can't write all of them at once. I only lost about 100 against the Artifact planet.
I wish I had a screenshot, but all of them in a flat square is about the size of a planet.
Next goal? Set up a LAN game against myself and put up tons of mines and see what happens.
I had about 100 of my own TEC Loyalists Corvettes wiped out by a single mine. They were moving as a group though.
Yeah, my corvettes died by the dozens when they encountered mines.
You see a counter. I see a virtual holocaust on a scale that will make my computer melt.
Now the problem is clicking my darn mouse 2000 times again . . . .
Shift+Click will make that 400 clicks =PI might try this. I think screenshots are in order!
Who here thinks the corvettes should be more durable, even more than the scouts?
aye. but not too much more. Somewhere just under light frigs maybe, to make them more of an option. Their abilities should help balance that.I wonder what more corvettes we might see?
They need durablity and more attack power.
At their current state corvettes are useless. You are better just beelining for the Titan and start raping everything.
I posted screens all.
Warning, it may not seem like a lot . . . but there are so many that when you zoom some disappear and reappear. Enjoy!
I love the fact that the bar at the top, representing each ship as a dot, goes off the screen.
The really sad thing is that that happened at around 1000
It starts to get unbearable performance wise around that time as well.
And here I thought 1,000 scouts was rough on a machine.
So what are corvettes like, weaker than fighters, but behave like frigates?
They are weird. They are only 100 minerals and 5 crystal I think. They have 3 weapons but only do like 2 damage a pop. I don't even know which weapon is which because they adjusted how far you can zoom in.
They apparently die really easily unless you have 500+ of them.
The Loyalist one shuts down enemies phasing out of your lane supposedly I think. The Rebel one stops passive regeneration.
They are bigger than strikecraft but smaller than scouts.
They behave like fighters, but have a bit more firepower and can be targeted by anything.
Ah, so they are like big strike craft, what I was expecting, but only a little stronger than strike craft. I thought for certain they would fill the gap between strike craft and frigates, which they don't quite seem to do based on what everyone's saying. Can they phase jump on their own?
They can phase jump on their own - they are not bound to any ship.
I think they just need a damage boost. they only cost 1 supply, so they should be cheap.... but their damage is a bit too low.
I'm actually more worried about CPU performance than I am about corvette performance. Though it might not be feasible for one player to build 2000 corvettes, if every player in a game with 10 players builds 200 corvettes, you still have 2000 corvettes running around.
Since multi-threading isn't an option, here's to hoping that the developers are working on some kind of rendering shorthand for corvettes. I don't care if they render the things as BRICKS until you zoom all the way in, so long as the game runs smoothly in large games.
Alternatively: when Rebellion sells well, take some of that money and devote it to implementing multi-threading.
With regards to balance:
The idea with corvettes is that they are fast glass cannons: high DPS/cost, good DPS against all armor types, but low individual DPS (so the "critical mass" required for a corvette ball to be unkillable is relatively high, as opposed to a LRF ball, which has a low "critical mass" threshold since individual unit DPS is so high).
But if you make corvette health/cost too high, they'll outmode light frigates completely (as it is, they're already on their way out). So the model we're looking at here is as follows:
Corvette: high DPS/cost, low health/cost, low DPS/unit
Light Frigate/heavy cruiser: low DPS/cost, high health/cost, low DPS/unit
LRF: high DPS/cost, low health/cost, high DPS/unit
Ummm I would say no. Everyone remembers the old Advent scouts. Lots of little things that do damage will kill you.
What are you still doing commenting on the Rebellion forum Astax? I thought you said goodbye to pc games because Sins Rebellion required steam integration?
The thing is that Corvettes are ment to swarm and kill you. Scouts weren't made for this.
Let's do some math...
Percheron carrier with 2 squadrons of fighters (with 6 SC in each squadron) costs 14 fleet supply...that's 1.167 fleet supply per individual SC...
Corvettes....one ship per fleet supply...
Now we all know SC are the lag killer of late game (possibly 2nd only to mines if you are in a comp stomp), and SC are smaller and use more fleet supply than corvettes...
Conclusion: Corvettes are worse than SC when it comes to causing lag...
And that's omitting the fact that corvettes have 3x the weapon effects, have shield effects, probably a higher poly count, and probably have the complex path finding similar to frigates instead of SC...
Yes indeed. I do not play new games. I still play some old games like League of Legends or Moo2. And of course occasional Diplomacy. However, far be it for me not to impart my knowledge where it could be useful.
Honestly, I don't see the point of Corvettes when we already have strikecraft, and if they are at all useful then we very well might get 1000+ of them in 8 and 10 player games, making the game unplayable. If necessary, I suppose we could all just agree on a "No Corvettes" rule or implement a mod that simply removes the Corvettes.
Alternatively, why spend 14, or 20 fleet supply on 2 or 3 strikecraft (carriers) when you could add 14, or 20 Corvettes to your fleet instead? Strikecraft aren't good for the game's performance, but you can't produce them in the quantity you can produce Corvettes, either.
I'd be happy if they added a couple more planet types or another capital ship or gave each race a second titan type option and nixed the Corvettes. It's no fun having to "murder one's babies" but in this case it might be necessary.
