Well, the SoaSE Weebly site redirects to soase.x90x.net now.
I saw the same thing. Did the webmaster just simply give up?
No (well--maybe)...a moderator (whom I won't name) from a Stardock forum (not Sins) got into slapfight with the Soase Weebly creator and censored him in unrelated posts--so he took the site down in angry protest. Moderator's need diplomacy, finesse, maturity and a cool head and unfortunately not all have these traits.
So I am told. I have no idea if he wiped the site to zero or can or will restore it.
I think it was a regrettable choice but I understand the feeling. It was his (mostly) work and he had the freedom to do it.
The SoaSE Wiki is still available as it is run separately. Not as thorough regarding modding--though many posts that were on the Weebly can be found scattered through the forums.
Forget about this post.
Ugh. Way to set the table for future Sins modders.
Probably more (or less) going on here than meets the eye. If anyone knows anything about this, PM me with details and I'll look into it.
No, but Harpo maintains a post in the modding section with the up to date reference files along with his converter program.
I feel like.... like.....
and and all at the same time!!!
Ummm.... If you could, ask someone to put the weebly back up, ok?
If you can't, then.... my hopes of making a mod for this game will be thrown off the WTC... oh wait a second... Ummm... The EMPIRE STATE BUILDING!! (Remembers that you can't jump from the top and reach the street)
Oh you get the point.
I suspect it will be back up eventually once feelings cool a little. The most important documentation is in the forge tools anyways (Myfist just enhanced it with nice links), and there is always the "Modders Get an Answer Thread" until its restored.
"Peace is a dream we've had for a long time."
Actually its "Peace is a dream we've had for a long time".

That's what I said Goa...are you crazy?
Or you could just edit your original post and claim Goa is going crazy....
here is a link to MY reference files thread (https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/378266)
and a link to my text bin gui thread (https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/353296) btw in post 199 is a link to the latest (22/2/2012) version of the text bin gui and convertdatas and needed files
and even a link to my modding utilities pack thread (https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/356807) yes it is titled mod updater but the rar has all of my sins utilities in it and they (except for the text bin gui) work with the current sins/trinity versions.
harpo
wow, this stinks, that site was influential in getting me started with modding just two short weeks ago!
Harpo, it is great for now... but what about when rebellion will be released... i have read somewhere your concern about network security due to the use of Steam... will you "disappear" too... your mod updater tool and reference files is a must have for any modders because Stardock was never able to keep their forgetool updated... in fact, the forgetool pdf tutorial are so old that they don't include old thing like the switch between the cl alpha and the da red from sins 1.1...
As for the soase weebly, for a short time, you can access it via google who have cache the site.... go to :
http://www.google.be/#hl=nl&q=+site:weebly.com+soase+weebly&sa=X&ei=tSZFT_mjLcKX-wblqcywAg&ved=0CEkQrAM&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=ecdf6a41eeaf26a9&biw=1680&bih=840
and choice one of the 300 link... don't click the link itself but click "in cache"... advice people to go fast since the next time that google will "browse" the site, the cache will be updated with the actual blank pages...
A advice, if you like a site, use http://www.httrack.com/ ... it allow to make a offline version of the site on your harddrive... have use it for years, archiving interesting website who are dead today... remember that nothing is eternal... same on the internet...
filosoft, I am not intending to disappear, but with the force steam to install and update, even for those of us that do NOT online play, and having no trust for steam/valve( i rate them just worse than stopgames which I do NOT trust) means I will probably not move to rebellion even though I have already pre-ordered, and am considering a cancel of pre-order due to the sforced steam issue.
Well, that's just lovely. Somebody else is going to need to come up with some updater tools because SOMEBODY(1) (2) is butthurt about Steam/Valve and believing everything the media tells you about them...
1 - Multiple people, not just harpo in this case. IMO, a complete lack of willingness to work through something you don't like (AKA: What our forefathers did and what millions of people around the world do every day).
2 - I blame greed. Human nature has changed. People since WWII have learned to trust greed. Don't believe me? I see it every day of my life.
Stay Harpo. Who else's work can we leech so much off of?
I don't trust Steam too but i use it for year with my share of problem ( in years, it is the only software who lead to a NSOD at boot time due to hardware incompatibility... why in hell, the steam client always try to wrote in a area of protected memory !!! )...
In fact, i have begin use it because of Impulse... was tired to see "US only" when i wish to buy a game...
On the other hand, i trust Stardock and hope that if Steam don't handle Stardock customer in the right way, they will take the needed action ( by example fall back on the upcoming new stardock central )...
In anycase, i will move to Rebellion because sins is my second prefered game... and if steam become more a problem that a advantage, i can always take some action myself...
As sins online play, i don't really care about it... have try a few year ado but people on ICO was really unfriendly... Steam will not improve thing, adding thousand of 15 year old in their pubert crisis, driven by their hormones...
Well, i have nothing about the move to Steam if it was not exlusive... will have best to keep the actual method ( impulse ), add the promised one ( new stardock central ), along with Steam... with the Steam version being the only one to support multiplayer...
Ugh... Thanks Harpo for your help and such.
I might just PM the creator of the weebly (who I shall not name, I figured it out, if STARDOCK ADMIN wants to know then he/she can PM me) and see if he'll put it back up.
I think we all know who the weebly creator is, its just the exact nature of the as most of it seems to have been done by PM.
why won't you guys mention the mod that caused this?
Is it not the point of the weebly site going down, to prove to that moderator that he is less useful than the fans that drive the mod community - upon which he so un-righteously has applied his wrath in excess?
If no one says who this idiot is, then how can we expect to ever get the weebly site back up? And if we don't get the weebly site back up, how are we supposed to do anything useful in the mod community?
What a tragedy. And what blasphemy that you all protect the complete a$$hat that caused this at the cost of ruining potential mod creations. Drama is something fostered, and you people certainly partake in it just as much as the two that started the fight. Do something useful, and give us a name - so that we may seek justice for the wrong doing........
A moderator only has as much power as the community allows him to have. And if a moderator is fist-fighting with words on the community forum, I think it's something that should be brought attention, not shoved under the rug.
jesus...
Some of us don't even know why it was shutdown.
Well the webpage has a meta redirect pointing to soase.x90x.net , and x90x.net is not running an active apache service. It still has the domain registrant active, some dude in amsterdam running a webhost service - who is no longer maintaining the HTTP service.
So that explains the lack of proper redirect. It is quite possible that the x90 site would be working, if the apache service was running.
The soase.weebly site still has all the css and javascript that the page normally contains (as compared to cached version) - standard weebly page includes , with code appearing to be dropped into the body. So it opens body tag, and drops a new html def including even a doctype, with its own head and body, like a webpage inside a webpage. So whoever did that clearly is either not a web developer, or did something funky using weebly (like dragging a page and dropping it into the frontpage).
Which lends me to think that it wasn't hacked, but was intentionally brought down. I've never seen a hacked site where the intruder dropped an entire html files code inside of the body tag of another html file. It's just not practical.
Well... I for one wish someone who knows who Mr weebly is, would contact him in regards to this matter. Chances are very good that he is actively checking the forums, for if he had been pushed that far to actually affect an entire community, he is certainly interested in how his actions have affected said community. And it indeed has.
Edit:
Check this out: http://soase.weebly.com/uploads/4/6/1/9/4619843/playerpictures-tec.tga (thank you google)
So this means that some of the data files are still there. Just need to remember all the url's, and we could reconstruct his webpage using his hosted files. If the data files are still there, it's possible the html & php files are too.
The site author had made some political posts in general/off-topic forums which were relocated to more appropriate categories as we regularly do with such threads when they appear (per forum rules). He took it personally and it culminated in his removing the content from his site as protest. I saw no evidence of foul play or abuse when I looked into it.
