Fans of Civilization V have been begging me for an answer to this question for quite some time: will Civilization V get an expansion pack? Today I am extremely excited to tell you all that yes, it will! Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods & Kings is currently slated for a late Spring 2012 release. It will come as no surprise to those of you who are familar with expansion packs for previous Civilization games that Gods & Kings will add more techs, units, buildings, Wonders, and playable Civilizations. But what about the big brand new game elements that will change the way you conquer the world? Let me lay it out for you: Tons of New Stuff. I know I just mentioned it, but I want to draw attention to just how many new things we've got here: 27 new units, 13 new buildings, 9 new wonders, and 9 new playable civilizations. Among the new civilizations are the Netherlands (William I, Prince of Orange), the Celts (Boudicca), and the Mayans (Pacal the Great). Religion. That's right; quite possibly the most requested major addition to the game is coming in the Gods & Kings expansion. Using the new "Faith" resource, you'll be able to found your own religion and grow it from a simple Pantheon of the Gods to a world-spanning fully-customized religion. Reworked Combat System. The expansion has a reworked combat system along with an AI that places more emphasis on balanced army composition. Among the changes to the combat system is the addition of melee naval units, which will force you to really rethink the way you execute your naval assaults. Enhanced Diplomacy, with Espionage. In addition to being able to establish embassies with your rival civilizations, spies will now be an important part of how you conduct your foreign affairs. Surveilling foreign cities, stealing advanced techs, and garnering influence with city-states are some of the things you'll be able to do with this new powerful mechanic. New City-States. With religion being added to the game, it only made sense to introduce Religious city-states which will interact with your religion in special ways. In addition, Mercantile city-states will be attractive for those of you who love to grow your civilization's treasury. All city-states will use the greatly expanded quest system, making city-states more dynamic and diplomatic victories more challenging, while decreasing the importance of gold when dealing with city-states. New Scenarios. Three new scenarios will be coming in Civilization V: Gods & Kings. Experience the fall of Rome, explore the medieval era, and my personal favorite: a unique scenario in a Victorian science-fiction setting. So there you have it. What do you think? I'm sure you guys have tons of questions, so come on over to our forums and let us know! Or if you'd prefer, you can also reach us on Twitter or Facebook. We'll be reading all of your questions! Why would the house sell for 1 billion? That has nothing to do with anything. The buyer in this case is only paying 50 dollars. It is a community house. The point is that you have the option to live in either house or both, but don't expect the 2.5 million dollar house to be as nice as the 500 million dollar house.
you still don't get it . . . okay say the buyer is only paying 50 million. 1 billion was just a hypothetical number. the final sale amount does not technically matter. what does matter is that they are they same.
if I pay 50 million for both properties you better explain to me why I have to pay 50 million for a house that only cost 2.5 million to make and the same amount for a house that cost 500 million to make. in the end I the buyer will judge the two properties based on the fact they will cost me 50 million. what it cost to build the two is completely irrelevant at the point of sale.
in the end if I knew how much the houses cost to make I would never pay 50 million for the 2.5 million dollar property. it's an automatic no brainer to go for the 500 million one. the only time the cost of the project matters is if you want to look back at it from an engineering stand point and make a technical analysis of the two. from the consumer stand point it is useless and usually a hidden aspect.
Bottom-line is this, "Who gives a shit how much the game cost to make?". That means nothing to me as a consumer. If new games cost me $50, then I will judge it compared to other $50 games.
And games are not community projects. That is a ridiculous concept to me. We are buying a product.
Civ V is the first Civ game I havent bought. Maybe I try it sometime, but they butchered what was the best game ever (CIV IV).
How come? Did they stop selling Civ IV?
yes I would definately try it out. give it a chance and try not to think too much about the critics. it's a lot better than they make it out to be.
I see. So you are saying that WoM is simply not worth 50$ and CivV is based on quality. That is a reasonable conclusion. Most indie games do have a lower price than triple A games because they are less able to produce the same level of quality. Stardock has always charged equal price levels for their games. The quality on release may not be the same, but they can offer a guarantee of service after purchase. That may not attract every user, but you can always wait until the price for the game decreases to where you value it. And you still get the great services after release. I payed full price because I wanted to part of the beta and because GalCiv2 was better than any space TBS I have seen.
WoM came out seriously flawed, but after a year of patches was pretty good. The price I paid was not equal to the product still, so Stardock is giving me 2 free games to shore up my faith in the company. CivV released a game that was in worse shape for me than WoM 1.0. I had to wait months for a patch. That patch was weak. Never solved my crashes or the ridiculous things I would have to do when starting a new game, like deleting folders. Many more months went by as they released DLC races and other things I could make myself with the modding system. No acknowledgement of my problem was given after hours spent in the support forum, except that my configuration doesn't seem to "mesh" well with their game. Now they expect me to pay for features that should have been in the game in the first place? The 500 million dollar house was apparently built by idiots.
seanw3: exactly now you get it. I do agree with you on a lot of points. don't get me wrong I don't regret paying $70 on WoM because I know eventually Stardock will make good on their promise. At the time though I had to say Civ V was the superior game. Someone new to the scene though might not be so willing to take the bait of triple A prices from an indie developer.
When people say Civ IV was the best game ever, do they mean vanilla Civ IV or BotS Civ IV? I would never put either one in that category, Civ V either. Maybe Civ IV BotS with FFH2, but vanilla Civ IV? Not in my book.
On a related note: I think E:FE stands to be a good game. But I think for it to be great, it must be as deeply moddable as Civ4.
I've usually been pretty disappointed with mods in general and don't find them particularly special, usually unstable and filled with rule changes only a small few, hardcore players could appreciate. FFH2 was the rare exception to that. I loved that mod as much as any game ever released.
About time they start fixing their game.... not just adding useless factions.
But on that note, I will possibly buy it, on sale of course.
I prefer stardock to Firaxis any day. Firaxis and Sid have become too big for my tastes. And Civ 5 is a POS.
That being said, I'm looking forward to XCOM,
And I've been expecting Alpha centaury for ages...
I only have 2 actual games from Stardock, other than FE beta. GalCivs 2, which I would give a 9/10 and WoM which would give about a 5/10. With those two releases they are gien a Xiacritic score of 7/10. What I own of Firaxis, Alpha Centauri 10/10, Civ 2 9/10, Civ 3 7/10, Civ 4 9/10, Civ V 8/10, Pirates 8/10, Colonization 8/10. Giving Firaxis a Xiacritic score of 8.4/10. All scores are subject to change at a whim.
I'm looking forward to it, but I hope this fixes Civ 5 to be alot better and with plenty of extra content to boot. I hope 2k gives Firaxis more room to fix things and not leave things to skeleton teams to get stuff done many months later. So ya I am on both sides of the fence on this.
Also this expansion is 30$ (you probably should of told people this, good to know mr )

Unless it fixes the broken battle AI I probably won't buy it on release.

Civ 2 was Microprose not Firaxis. So was the Original Pirates. (Thats of course ignoring that the actual staff for every game was different).
WOM was a disappointment but at least Stardock isn't trying to charge me 30$ for the fixes.
Speaking of Firaxis, where the m-f is my g-d m-fing Alpha Centauri 2 ?!?!
Sorry to derail, I just really, really want to play a new high res version of that game!
Ha I said that about civ.. they will butcher it and just keep the name to get sales. Throwing out all the original systems for new ones.. it would be alpha centauri in name only.. much like Civ V.
Then when you buy it you dare not complain.. cause people will tell you they don't understand the hate for it and "you only wanted Alpha centauri 1.5 and this is Alpha Centauri 2 so its going to be totally different, so why would you expect it to be anything like Alpha Centauri"
Of course eventually they will release an expansion that adds some of the old features calling them "New game elements".. and charge 30$ for it.
And then you'll go off on some diatribe and people will wonder why your ranting in some forum about it.
LOL, I would totally settle for that right now!
Ya but they won't do it. See A.C. is too complicated to bring in new players.. they gotta redo all the systems to bring in new players. "Streamline" it if you will.
Its okay.. cause just because they ditch all the gameplay dynamics.. and it seems like a different game entirely to you.. doesn't mean you shouldn't like it. "you have to judge it on its own merits not compare it to the original, its a new game in the series that doesn't mean it has to contain any of the systems the A.C. had"
To be fair they are both owned by Take 2.. Firaxis was bought by them shortly after the released of Civ IV. So.. ya.. don't expect much. Just like expecting anything from Bioware Is silly cause EA bought them and renamed all(not really but they did rename alot of) their studios Bioware.
Companies make good games. Companies get bought out. People buy games based on Game franchises or Studio names. Gamers lose, large gaming companies profit.
Name one studio acquisition that benefited gamers..I dare ya.(there might be one in the history of gaming but I can't think of it)
Alpha Centauri 2?
1. AC is a baby of Brian Reynolds. He now works for Zynga ( ). Without him AC 2 would not be AC at all.
2. AC is a baby of Firaxis. It's called "Sid Meier's" after all. But Firaxis doesn't own the rights for AC.
3. EA owns rights for AC (source). EA loves to buy kill trademarks.
So there will be no Alpha Centauri 2. Ever.
