Hey I was Just wondering are is Stardock going to be releasing a political machine 2012 or an update to political machine 2008? If you are making a Political Machine 2012 could you please add independents, debates, primaries.
I would like to echo the call for 3rd party support in the Political Machine 2012.
I bought and played the 2008 version after getting it recommended to me by the then editor of Gamepolitics.com. The game was a blast to play. However, if there is one glaring weakness to be found in that game, one that I hope they rectify in this version, is the lack of third parties.
Granted, I know that running as a third party in the real world with its current political climate is a sure fire way to not get elected president, it would be nice for a fictional simulation of the race for president to allow for such a choice. In fiction, anything is possible. So why couldn't a third party win in a video game?
Hi,
We are going to be releasing a new Political Machine game, no release date has been announced yet.
Check it out here: https://www.politicalmachine.com/
Are the screenshots on the Political Machine 2012 site from the actual game? It has Romney vs Obama but I was hoping not because it looks identical to the 2008 version. I enjoyed 2008 but have been patiently waiting for its strengths to be built on and for Stardock to take it from good to great with 2012.
This also gives me worry, from Brad's post -
The Political Machine is a PC strategy game where players run for President. You can play against a computer opponent (which is fun) or against a human over the Internet (which is sick fun). This year, we’re doing things with it a bit differently. It’s going to focus just on the 2012 election (rather than throwing in historical elections and fantasy elections which tended to dilute the experience) so that we can make it available at a much lower price – $6.95 to pre-order.
So I'm hoping TPM 2012 will not just be a repackaged 2008 with updated candidates and issues that also happens to strip out features from the previous version. I already have 2008, after all, I don't care to buy it again. I know you guys are busy with the aftermath of the Elemental disaster but I hope 2012 gets more than a half-hearted attempt to cash in on the election season.
And why, why must you stick with those awful looking bobble heads?
First of all, I applaud Stardock for creating another installment of this game. It is one of the best election simulation games out there and I am looking forward to what Political Machine 2012 has in store. I am hoping for some new features and additions that will make the game play even more enjoyable.
There are a few new features that I would like to see (although I dont think it will make much difference now)
-First, I think it would be cool to add some third party candidates. It would shake up the game play and make everything more interesting. Of course, historically, no third party candidate did not win the presidency, neither has any threatened to win, but they presented some umique challenges to candidates of major parties. Some good third party (or independent candidates) would be.... Ross Perot, John Anderson, etc.
Along with that, it would be cool if created candidates can have more party options, like Libertarian, Green, Constitution, Reform, or Independent. It would just be cool.
- I really enjoyed the scenarios from the 2008 game. The one from the alien planet was fun. More scenarios equals more fun. I expecially like the 1860 scenario, very fun. Some scenarios I would like to see would be.....
1824- Four way race between Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson, JQ Adams, and William Crawford. Dont know how to do that one, but it would be a fun one.
1844- Clay vs Polk (just a personal favorite)
1860- Dont leave out a good one just becuase it was in the last one. Would suggest some historical candidates ready for this one, like Stephen Douglas, John C. Breckinridge, and John Bell. Perhaps making them unlockable when you beat the scenario??? (which could work for other scenarios too)
1896- Bryan v McKinley
1912- Roosevelt v Taft v Wilson
1960- Nixon v Kennedy
2000- Bush v Gore
Maybe it can work that new scenarios can be downloadable from the web or that there is a scenario creator.
- I miss the longer campaign scenario from the first game. It was sad not unlocking some of my fav candidates like FDR (which I didnt understand why he wasnt in the ladder). My choice for ladders.
Republican
10. John Adams- 2nd Pres- 1 term
9. George W Bush- 43rd pres
8. Ulysses S. Grant- 18th pres, civil war general
7. Henry Clay- 3 time presidential candidate
6. Dwight Eisenhower- 34th pres
5. Theodore Roosevelt- 26th pres
4. Richard Nixon- 37th pres (lost 1960, but came back to win 1968 and landslide in 72)
3. Ronald Reagan- 40th pres (won 80 and 84 by landslide)
2. Abraham Lincoln- 16th pres
1. George Washington- 1st pres
others- George H. W. Bush, Rutherford B Hayes, Gerald Ford
Democrat
10. James Madison- 4th pres
9. James Carter- 39th pres
8. William Jennings Bryan- 3 time pres candidate
7. Andew Jackson- 7th pred
6. William J Clinton- 42 pres
5. Lydon B Johnson- 36th pres
4. Woodrow Wilson- 28th pres
3. John F Kennedy- 35th pres
2. Thomas Jefferson- 3rd pres
1. Franklin D Roosevelt 32nd pres
other candidates- Grover Cleveland, James Polk, Adlai Stevenson, Harry Truman
- Finally, perhaps a primaries series. One can contend for their party's nomination seperate from or with the game scenarion itself. Dont know how it will work but eh, its worth a try.
Hey guys,
Thanks for the announcement! Was kinda getting worried about the game's release as the days to Election Day get shorter and shorter...
Like what others have said, though, the game screenshots worry me a bit. Are you using the exact same graphics as the last iteration? Because a: That got enough complaints in 2008 and b: It's 4 years later... you can do better than that in 2012.
Also, third party candidates would help the game's realism a lot. I'm not personally a Ron Paul guy, but third parties really shape election turnout a lot... just look at 2000.
And if you are changing the graphics and stuff, please allow there to be at least a low enough graphical setting for those of us with older computers that can't exactly run high-intensity games... I play games on my 4-year-old cheap Dell laptop, and I can barely run Team Fortress 2 on it.
Primary process would also be a great addition... just make it an option, please, if we want shorter elections.
Thanks for reading my suggestions! I'll post more on here if I can think of any.
Hey guys, any word on a release date for this? Already pre-ordered!
There is a way to customize your candidates statistics in PM 2008. Usually after the game has been installed on your computer, a folder is set up in your documents folder. The folder should is titled "My Games", which within that file is another that says "polmachine2008".
In that folder will feature a folder called "candidates". In there will be files for every created candidate, reformat the file to be notepad and then just go in and fix them how you like.
just checkin something
More info will be coming out in the Summer about TPM.
We aren't doing retail releases, only via digital.
Hi guys, thank you for your two replies. [quote who="LionDemocrats" reply="9" id="3160572"]I would like to know if the new game includes primary battles as that would increase the fun and strategizing involved in game play. It would also better reflect the real world as the AI and the gamer would both be forced to take into account ideological shifts and intra-party insurgencies such as the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street. For example, suppose that we could have primary options on the GOP side in which we could not only pit Romney against Gingrich and Santorum, but what about a race that would see Rockefeller run against Goldwater for the soul of the Republican Party, or a race in which the player can pit their own customized Eisenhower against Reagan? On the Democratic side we could have Bobby Kennedy run against Johnson in a replay of 1968, and we could have FDR campaigning against Bill Clinton? Does the existence of PM2012 mean that PM2008 will be wiped out, or we can continue to play both? Moreover, what about the Win-Customized candidates from PM2008? Can we transfer them to 2012? If not, are there any plans to allow people to upload their own candidates? I would also like to know why some of the uploaded candidates were stronger than the ones in the game [Josiah Bartlett and Leo McGarry from West Wing in particular] and how we could design our own candidates with enhanced statistics. I would like it if issues such as War on Drugs, Free Trade, Nuclear Disarmament, Diplomacy with China, Student Debt, Humanitarian Intervention, Arab Spring, Democracy Promotion, Natural Gas Exploration, Nuclear Energy Expansion, Stem Cell Research, Contraception in Health Plans, Wall Street Reform, Tax Reform, Grand Bargain and more are included in the game in addition to those already mentioned. Also, can we buy it as a disc rather than a download purchase? The Internet speed is weak where I live. Hi guys, thank you for your reply. Would have replied earlier, but I was sick. However, my main question as to whether it will suit my system requirements hasn't been answered. Can you tell me this?

That way, I can pre-order.
LionDemocrats,
Yep, your machine is well above the min specs.
thanks. when will it be out?
Are you going to tell us how we can make our candidates stronger than the statistics given? Some players were able to do so for 2008, but I wasn't.
Is the new political machine out yet? Also, when I pre-ordered it, they gave me something for political machine 2008, which I already have! This is the serial number and info they sent me. The Political Machine 2008 (Digital Download)Serial number: []serial removed] Please install the GameStop PC app and logon with your GameStop/Impulse account to download this software.
The Political Machine 2012 will be released on July 31st
I posted my serial number in an earlier post by mistake, until some other political gaming enthusiast removed it. Does that mean that my purchase will be invalidated if someone else uses my code?
For the record, I think the bobble-heads are both apt depictions of our political figures and fun. Who doesn't love a good caricature/bobble-head? I'm even considering stating that bobble-heads are as American as Mom and Apple Pie. So that makes me wonder what kind of person doesn't like Mom and American Apple Pie?
Hi. Where can I find my new serial number?
You can find your serial numbers by logging in here:

Ok, thanks. I have the new game stop. What do I do next? I can't find the place where I log in and download the game.
