Derek and I have been passing on the messages and emails and of course various posts on the impressions of Elemental: Fallen Enchantress beta 1. Thank you for the kind comments and encouragement. We really appreciate it. You can imagine how anxious we were about this beta release.
We will be lurking the forums (and third party forums as well -- Si vous savez ce que je veux dire) to gather as much information as possible on everything from bugs, user interface tweaks, game play suggestions, to feature requests and sitting down to determine what to put in there.
We are still some months away from release. There is work to be done but it appears we’re on the right track. There’s still a lot of work ahead for us to do. Lot of cool stuff to get in there and of course lots of bug fixing.
The current plan is to open the beta up a bit more next week. Eventually, everyone who bought Elemental: War of Magic in 2010 or earlier will be in the beta.
With any luck, by the time we release, Elemental: Fallen Enchantress will be the PC fantasy strategy game that players were looking for. Stay tuned!
I've only seen this through the videos, but I'm in agreement here. Please add a scaling option for tactical combat animation speed.
Oh and bring back Dynasties, you know we want them!
Looking forward to play-testing
Yeah man, no worries. You know I'm just messin with ya. Besides, your member # is 2,651,922 lower than mine lol. Wintersong is here on the forums, you, me, vieuxchat, a few other old faces as well. I saw Landi on another game site a while back, I want to say it was the Xenonauts forums but I can't remember for sure. FE is pretty cool so far so I think there's a good chance a lot of the old gang that was here for Elemental might come back.
I've been here since the early beta phase for WoM. But I've been fairly quiet on the forums.. Just spent a little while trying out the FE beta. I love it. When i Play WoM, i never really feel that "I am in the Elemental world".. With FE, it didn't take long until I felt more of the essence of the world. FE definitively feels more like the Elemental I was hoping for in the first place. I believe in Stardock, and they have done a tremendous job with FE. looking forward to the final build! Mr. Wardell has always said that we will be able to tell a big difference between WoM and FE! And he couldn't be more right.
I also like the tool-tips about everything in the game. It has a cleaner look. The UI is neat and tidy! I think we got a seller. If IGN and PCGamer and all those sites and magazines put in a good word for this game. I think it will open the eyes for new gamer's that have not yet heard about Elemental! This is looking very promising!
I have seen a scaling slider for tactical combat in the options, but it doesnt have a "slow" feature, just normal, fast, and faster. By default I think its on normal, but would be nice for a slow if possible.
@PoPsuX
So maybe we will see some of those winter mods come out for FE?
Outstanding job. It feels more like a finished product than a beta. And the game has something War of Magic never had...It is actually fun to play.
Since you great folk in Stardock are taking ideas and are obviously aiming to reach MoM greatness (and more), here is another suggestion/plea:
PLEASE PLEASE introduce equipment, weapons and armor crafting / enchanting with the ability to NAME the items created!!! I know it was a small part of the MoM experience, but it made the game soooo much more interesting and exciting! I know it may be too late in the development, but even in an expansion I would LOVE the ability (in-game) to forge my own sword, select its magical qualities (from those that I have learned), select its icon and graphic and name it !!!
Agreed. I am playing LOTRO at the moment, and they have a superb system for personalised Legendary weapons - that almost become characters in their own right. I must also praise their divergence from the usual fantasy tropes and cliches - it's a breath of fresh air that I wish more fantasy games would adopt, encouraging you to think differently about stats and the interpretation of abilities. It's all to easy to go the Strength, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom route, and to make tired old fireball and lightning spells. What really sets a game apart from another, is one that makes you think differently about the things that you know so well and have seen so often - and take for granted. It may be too late for FE to go this way, but I would like to see something that makes you go.. oooh, I never saw it that way before....
Oh and bring back dynasties!
Despite it supposedly being godawful and disease-ridden, Fallen Enchantress is, at this moment in time, looking like my new favorite strategy game. There are some minor things that irk me, but I cannot explain the extent of my squee when I decided to attack a baby bear with my Sovereign and died a horribly painful death to mauling.
That has to be my favorite way to die at the moment. And I've found so many more! It's like Dwarf Fortress without the pachyderms.
...please no pachyderms.
Yes, customizable weapons with names attached will make the RPG eelement even more enjoyable... and I am already enjoying it.
Hopefully more folks will come as the word gets out.
Let me just start by saying job well done, and thank you. I feel like pre ordering WoM has finally paid off. Now, a few comments about my game play experiance so far.Comments:1. Maul is OP - Found a sword with it, let me kill anything in 1-2 turns with one hero - don't take it away though 2. Sure this is already being worked on, but recruitable creature huts icon's disappear when implemented for some reason3. I miss the spell research option, it seems odd that my level 5 hero could potentially be almost maxed in spell knoledge for a certain book4. Magic still plays too little a role, espically early on due to lack of mana. Possibly it's just my play style though.5. The trading/shop/equip screens are 100 times better, thank you. 6. I am probably just missing it, but what is the point of the special instance, I killed the main dude easily (in this case a the sand guy), then went around to each library for "hidden knowledge", did not seem to give me anything.7. Counterstrike is almost as usefull as Maul, is there a spell for it, if not can you make one 8 I crashed a few times in the 8 or so hours played, thanks to the excellent autosave it didn't really bother me though.9. Seems like it would be very hard to play a non explorer soverign (a la MoM), I did find one buildng that gave a exp bonus to stationed units, but was too little to be usefull, would be nice if this was a workable play style.Again well done, this will be a game worth modding much more so than WoM. Also can't wait for the tactical AI to start coming up to speed.
I would also say that Maul is too powerful. I saw it on some monsters (weak-medium) that killed my sovereign and soldiers several times. I couldn't look up the exact effect but it is definitely too powerful.
Also, is there some rounding bug with horses? I built on a horse resource which said 0.3 horses per season but it never accumulates. Is that how it's supposed to work?
I had an issue in one of my test games where I had found a WARG and equipped it on the sov and in battle I cast the GROW spell, and the sov with WARG SHRANK to approx 1/2 size, but the grow spell on a UNMOUNTED sov doubled in size as the description of the spell suggests.

After the disappointing Elemental: WOM and Firaxis' misstep with Civilization V, I'm glad to see someone do a good job on a modern strategy game. I really like FE. Keep up the great work!
Yeah. CIV V was the first CIV game I didnt buy. I am optimistic about FE. Still lots to do, but the foundation is solid this time.
i bought the game back in 2010 but i after cdstop bought impulse i can't find mah game. what do i do?
i am the smartest man on these forums so if i like fe it's going to be smooth sailing. and i'm not a message board sychopanth either.
Hi, I didnt follow FE development closely (after the disapointment with WOM) so I didnt know what to expect. I have seen few screenshots, but they look kinda similar to how I remembered WOM. God, I was so wrong
Unfortunatelly I hadnt much time to properly "play test", but the first impression is excellent! It starts with the excellently done menu, the UI feels exactly as it should feel - helpful and not obstructing or limiting. The amount of polish is really considerable! I guess there is still lot of work to do balance wise etc, but to me the game already is enjoyable!
What I really feel as something which makes the game to stand out is the world. It really is interestingly hostile! Especially variability of creatures etc. Oh, and did I mention perks for units/heroes? Everything feels more ... unique.
It was interesting to see how the satisfaction poll develobed over the time tho. It started at 70 per cent excellent. Now is at 50. It seems that first impression might be the best part of the game so far... but you guys have revived my faith in you that you will be able to make an excellent game this time
----
I must mention my personal issue tho -the cities... same problem as in WOM... making tham snakey makes movement too effective and it feels really gamey... Also I hope that they wont be covering half of the map in late game...
If you build it, they will come...
To understand the language of FE Beta, you must be invited to FE Beta! :0
But seriously, this is finally (nearing) the game that we hoped WoM would become. FE in beta is probably better than WoM's current state in gold.
I won't fault you too hard on the flaws still present. The more I think about it, the more I realize how hard it is to combine the pacing and elements of a Civ-like game with more "static" units with those of a more WCIII-like game with RPG-like leveling, gearable units. And then there's the tactical combat aspects to worry about, and this isn't to mention combining these disparate elements into a single well-constructed seamless experience.
Frankly, even though Elemental is the spiritual successor to MoM (and as monumental a game as MoM was), MoM didn't come close to combining the above elements in their full richness as Elemental is trying to do. And I trust it will do so in a way that will keep gamers enthralled for many enjoyable hours on end =p
I'm so jealous. I didn't pre-order this game because I didn't want distractions during an important period of my life. I only bought it a month after it was released and now I don't get to play the beta right now!!!!
Well this is all great news! Any eta on when others that purchased in 2010 will get the beta? You say open it up more next week but the say eventually everyone that bought will get in... I WANT IN! lol
Great work guys!
Congrats. I just tried the beta for 4 hours. This should be the product you have shipped for WoM. Not saying it is better than MOM or AOW2 SM, but it is not a disgrace to the name of StarDock.
It's definitely fun now, but still needs work to replace MoM and other classics..
Maul is awesome. Although I did run into Verga who had a weapon with Maul on it. It was really the only thing that made him tough. Until he got that thing he was kind of a sissy. I think they nerfed him to much. Counterstrike is a must if you plan on getting into a fight at all.
I am really enjoying the game. It is a lot of fun. I do crash from time to time, certainly more than WOM 1.4
I still think you should put the marriage and children back into the game. Even with Heros on Sparse they are easy cannon fodder until you have put a lot of time and weapons into them. Have a kid icon and keep them safe for 100 seasons. Random attributes (including channeler) would be worth more.
