Hello all, I am trying to find out when Stardock THINKS I ordered this game, because I KNOW I pre-ordered it through a retailer (Gamestop), but I have gotten no email, and no FE beta in the "my downloads" section. My attempts to call customer support were met with answering machines, even though it was before the end of their usual hours of operation, and if anything, on a day like today, they should be putting in extra hours. (Yes, I know they already have been, and yes I appreciate the fact that they work hard, but today is a big release day, there should be someone there doing support).
I've been hyping up this game to my friends like crazy, and now the fact that I've got no beta while others do, even though I pre-ordered, really burns. I know someone knows what to click on their page to let me see when I registered this game (It sure as heck wasn't a few weeks ago). Thanks everyone.
I don't think that pre-orders from third parties are included in the first beta wave. I'm in the same situation with an Amazon pre-order.
Well, they REALLY should have made that much more clear at some point. I'm so angry right now it's not even funny, especially considering I have the special edition of the game (though it's funny that their website shows no record of that, it says I have the Std. Ed. Box, probably because they didn't actually add any different software to the special edition, so I bet the code was the same, but still). I seriously feel like I'm getting screwed over for paying MORE money for a special edition that I actually can display on shelf, instead of just having a bunch of code sitting on a computer.
Yeah, I agree that this should have been made more clear, but just think of the logistical and legal nightmare of getting pre-order info from who knows how many third parties.
Look at it this way- why would you want to get tired of the game before it's even out of beta testing?
Well, to be fair, back then it was clear. You are correct they probably should have been more clear at this time. But as LightofAbraxas stated, there is just no way to know that you pre-ordered from another site, when all you were getting was a box in the mail.
Btw, I think the special edition of E:WoM was just stuff in the box that was different/extra. Don't remember there being any extra items in-game or anything like that.
Retail copies and such are not in this first round. Just have to be a bit patient and you will get it.
Your good nature is appreciated, comrade. I would be much less upset by this if Stardock had made it more clear that they only meant pre-orders from their website. Your comment about logistics and the like does make complete sense.... but it's still really frustrating. I'm sure I will be in within the next week or so, seeing as I was playing within the first day or two, but I've got free time now! Thanks again for being a voice of reason. Maybe if I'm really lucky, a voice of Stardock will come along and be like "oh man, we really screwed this guy, lets get him in".... one can wish, right?
Damn, voice of Stardock slipped in while I was writing my response and told me to hold my horses.... crap. Might as well take care of as many things as possible the next few days, so when I get the email, I can play the heck out of the game. This really makes me wish for better relations between retail stores and the companies that make the games they push, but I realize that isn't likely to happen for lots of complicated reasons... but it still isn't fun being on the receiving end of the "no fun" stick.
And yeah, Leo, nothing special actually in the game play itself with the special edition, so I am sure the registration code wasn't anything special. The dragon statue that came with the box is pretty cool though, and the books were pretty decent, this game has a strong back story to it.
