I finally uninstalled Impulse. I haven't even launched it since the day Gamestop took over officially. Since then I had pretty much repurchased most of my Impulse games during the various Steam sales and the Winter sale got me most of the rest I was missing on the cheap. With the Stardock games coming to a new SDC that pretty much sealed the deal. The only games I'm "missing" are both Dragon Age games, but if I really wanted to I could download them again directly from EA, but I have no desire to play either again (2 sucked and Origins I already played thru 4 times, I think that's enough LOL). Only 3 other indie games left and I can get those again really cheap on GG or GoG if I wanted.
So I bid a fond farewell to Impulse. You were good and my main source of games in the Stardock days all the way back to Dregin.net. But Gamestop owning you forced me to Steam and frankly I haven't been happier. Even better Stardock will have SDC again for it's games.
Yep and I don't even miss it.
When Rebellion arrives, I shall be free.
Like a breath of fresh air ... *sigh*
WTF is an impulse?
Well, the one day sales almost matching weeks long Steam sale prices are pretty sad, but it's not any more annoying a program than it was before they took over.
There was a brief stint where they were popping up promotions whenever you opened the program, but they got the message and knocked that crap off. I wont be buying much(or nothing if they never actually have a better deal than Steam), but there's no reason to repurchase stuff I already have...
I was asking in the Hollywood fashion to make it clear that Impulse is nothing in this town anymore. Don't need a definition.
Still have it installed, I just don't run it. Got a few other games on it, don't want to miss updates.
Pretty much same as Heavenfall. It's still there, but I haven't bought anything using it in quite a while and most of my existing stuff I was able to transfer off one way or another (the remaining stuff being a couple indie things I can't move without rebuying and Stardock stuff which presumably will appear in the new SDC).
Actually I haven't even run it in a couple months. Steam gets my business now, when I'm not playing SW:TOR.
Same as Tridus & HeavenFall, Impulse was my main digital download service, but I haven't bought anything there in months. I won't uninstall as I have some games there I want to still use, but Steam and others are my main service now.
Same, kind of a hassle to uninstall Impulse, but Steam has become my major service now. I do check Impulse and others for deals, but they just rarely have what steam has to offer. And Steam has never given me problems ever.
I'm with pretty much everyone else here. I loved Impulse back before GameStop purchased it, but now I've pretty much moved completely to Steam, only keeping Impulse for the few games that I previously purchased on it and continue to play.
I only bought Stardock games on Impulse so I have zero need for it now that you can get all their games directly from them now. I like Gamersgate a lot. There's no client or anything and no limits. I like Steam for the social features.
Same here. I had 75% Stardock stuff on it I am not worried about, and half of the 25% which is not Stardock I am not too worried about losing. A couple of little gems in there (Space Rangers anyone?!?) I didn't find elsewhere, so I am not uninstalling right now, but I suppose it is only a matter of time (I guess a year, until I get my next computer, upon which I will not be installing Impulse...).
I have steam for a majority of my games, and Impulse is still there for Sins. However, when Rebellion comes out, Impulse will go the way of the dinosaur for me, and maybe Gamestop will follow
I did uninstall Impulse, but I still have more than a few titles there so I reinstalled it. And to be honest, except for Sims 3 expansions it works a lot nicer than other digital clients...reinstalling your OS or verifying game files is easier with Steam, but it downloads slow. If it had community features I'd probably prefer it over Steam, cause this Witcher 2 downloading business with Steam that I still haven't been able to resolve pisses me off.
If it wasn't for the awesome Steam sales I'd still be pissed, at any rate. You just can't get past the crazy sales. The Steam site was flaking horribly during the last sale which was awkward.
So even though I haven't bought much from Impulse lately, I still think it has the potential to win me back.
I've seen this posted a couple times but I got to wonder if it's ISP throttling or something because Steam always maxes out my connection speed no matter what I have at the time. Currently have 18 mb and Steam downloads usually max out higher at 20 mb steady. I have Uverse.
I'm on 3G. Of course it is. Which doesn't mute the point that Impulse downloads considerably faster.
Sounds like Steam is improving things too, what with the new content delivery system. If only it actually worked for me, heh.
I uninstalled it hmmm must be more than a year ago. Never had any use for it.
I uninstalled it using Revo uninstaller to make sure all traces were gone.
I have some games that I'll reinstall once the new SDC comes online. I'm not in enough of a hurry to reinstall that I'd feel compelled to use Impulse again.
I have Steam now anyway, so I could repurchase whatever I wanted if it came to it.
Revo isn't a bad idea. 8) I think I got rid of Impulse two re-formats ago, so it wasn't needed though. I'll be happy to see SDC return from the grave, and might reinstall some SD software then. 8)
Like others here, I have not uninstalled Impulse because I don't want to miss any updates to games I've purchased from it in the past. However, I will not be purchasing any more games from it in the future. GamersGate has become my primary DD site now (Steam=evil).
