Stardock:
I've had a really high opinion of your company for a long time. After it finally got patched up, Demigod was actually one of the more exciting DOTA-themed RTSs I have ever played (though I wish you'd produce more content for it). Elemental, I never played. Sins of a Solar Empire is similarly fantastic.
That's why I recommended to my brother that he purchase Sins off of Steam. The only problem is that, he, like a lot of Steam customers, cannot even do so much as launch the game. It boots up, goes black, and immediately crashes. There's been no patch, no support and he hasn't gotten a single response from customer service (nor, does it seem, has anyone else with this or a similar problem).
I just wanted to say this: Stardock is a small company and most of its customers are first-timers that hear about a game through word-of-mouth. But most PC gamers are wary of small developers because, more often than not, they release shitty games that are bugged to the max. And so, they pirate the game and they discover that Stardock is actually good at making games, but there's still no reason to buy it now that you have it. So the incentive has become: release the game at the height of its hype or sales potential, regardless of the state of the game and hope you can get enough people to purchase it to fund the rest of its development. I agree it's a terrible situation.
You know what's worse than that? Letting it get around that your company consistently produces buggy games. Sins is really your only successful launch. Demigod and Elemental were unmitigated disasters. So, universally in the gaming community, Stardock has become associated with mega-hyped, should-be-quality-games that are destroyed by a poor development cycle. And your core group of supporters (like myself) that buy your games anyways because they know that you can produce quality entertainment begin to fall away. And now no amount of hyped-releases can get you the money you need to make video games.
That's a long-winded way of saying: this is why people pirate video games. You wanted to take advantage of Steam's holiday sales, so you rushed Sins to Valve without doing the proper quality control. Now tons of your customers can't even get the game to work properly. I know my brother won't be paying another $20 for one of your games. And after purchasing Galactic Civ, Demigod and Sins, I don't know if I will either.
Let this be a lesson to you. Every gamer on this Earth would rather pay $20 for a working game than $13.39 for a broken one that might be fixed later. If you need any more instruction on how to release a game properly, ask the folks over at Runic Games.
Have you contacted support about your issue yet? We are aware of the issue and have been working on it. So far it appears to be related to an odd hardware issue that we're working with other companies on.
wauw, nice wall of text... to much rage anyway...your a kid i assume?
sins is a good game. so was demigod. maybe not for your "playstyle" but i certainly liked it. and even if you pirate sins, you can't play the game to full potential since you can't use mods since you can't get updates. so yeah, pirating sins isn't even worth it...
and tbh, i've bought enough games that need fixes, hell, every game needs fixes. if you can't realise that you really should consider how good a gamer you are. give me 5 recent game names that never had updates and nobody ever complained about the gameplay...so yeah, suck on that
and sins was released properly. steam just fcked it up
-just my thoughts
Obviously, you didn't actually *read* the wall of text you complained about, otherwise you'd know that I praised both Sins and Demigod because I think they're fantastic games. And it's a little hard to condescendingly call me a "kid" when, in one sentence, you use the wrong form of "too" and "you're." Try again.
Yes and, as I said, my brother has not received a response.
What is your ticket #?
I just got the game myself. I bought the original off steam. I got it for 20$ Sins of a Solar Empire wont work and neither the expansions. The screen goes black and crashes just like every one else. I have updated all my drivers and I have all the system requirement but I still can't play it. I still waiting on tech support to get back to me too. Do we have a time frame on when it will be fixed. I guess I wasted 20$ bucks. That teaches me for not buying the game from the store.
dittos for another game ... rift ... 40 dollars ... and 15 per month membership or locked out ... that is my experience ... never went beyond my first 3 startup characters... the game stole items crucial to play.. and kept crashing... i just did want to rent a junkyard game... sorry rift ... this is my opinion ... still want my 40 dollars back...
akrmer25
i noticed too... sacred 2 would steal expensive weapons ... and sacred gold would steal level 1 and 2 horses... dont trust the belevue horses ... get the gray for free... then up at the trader for a faster stronger horse ... for a decent price ... but a horse that will return when called...
noticed that galciv2 is dynamic in the building and developement of ships... the ax falls in every game so be perpared to get stabbed in the back or sabotaged... but that is just good gaming...
galciv2 also has mods i dont know how to load... but are neat...
i really cant wait to learn how to play this game... trinity seems to have unique graphs... but i think the outlay of the gal map is better in galciv2 .... but i am a newbie and that may explain my ignorance of trinity...
the developement looks challenging... at trinity... this i like... but... it appears i will forever be a newbie
