Just thought I'd get this going and then weigh in sometime soon. I picked it up and, so far, absolutely love it. My first character is a Sith Juggernaut Warrior. I love how its really story driven and the huge amount of voice acting. I also dig how crafting is setup. Anyway, all the time I'm going to put into this post for now... back to playing

Eh, you'll get over the sticker shock real fast once you start paying 30k+ per new skill rank for your class abilities as you pass level 40.
Just keep on Slicin' always when logged and you'll be okay.
Except Slicing got nerfed, didn't it?
You level 2 mount costs 210,000 just to train the skill, so have fun with that.
Anyway, I started up a bounty hunter on Kaas City named Krazikarl. Servers are going nuts tonight for me though.
The credits really aren't a big deal as you get to higher level. My Jedi Shadow is 44 now (had a lot of vacation time!) and just doing the two level 40 space missions nets something like 12k credits in 15 minutes. If I wasn't blowing so much money running diplomacy missions I'd be able to afford speeder piloting rank 2.
Since I just got a romancable companion now (Consulars get them REALLY late), I'm trying to find info on how that works in terms of if you can break it off and then start it again later, or if you only get one shot to romance them.
Really loving the game though. Except for some UI issues they did a great job.
That's my problem... I've been spending money like crazy since level 10 on crew missions and crafting.
Glad to hear that the money starts to flow better as you progress.
Also - tatooine - hate it. They effectively make mounts fairly useless by forcing you to go about twice as far to get to things (if not more)... so I can move faster, but I have further to go (eg it kind of negates the bonus of having a mount and just makes it clear that its a huge penalty if you don't have a mount). I'm a bit annoyed about that, but sure - people probably like spending 5+ minutes to get to every objective, then spend 5+ minutes going back... its not a shite design decision... smeh. Give me a mount and find a way for it to take longer to get places when the whole point of a mount is to get you places faster...
Also, there is sooo much stuff to do on tatooine.... don't see myself leaving anytime soon. Ah well. Grouchy pacov is grouchy.
There's no point in trying to do everything in each planet though. There's so much to do in the later planets that you outlevel the planet really quickly. It might be more fun to come back and do a different set of quests with another character.
Tatooine is long yes, but Alderaan is small by comparison. Though just as quest filled. So I think it was just a 'lets make Tatooine as desolate and empty as possible while still having stuff to do' design issue.
Update today (1/4) supposively fixes this issue.
mayhaps - but I'm a bit of a 100% completion sort of guy. Eg I'd be likely to take several days to even go back and get everything up to 100%, to do every heroic quest at least once, same with flash points. I should probably adapt.
Anyway, I'm currently just playing catchup after getting my mount. I grouped up a bit on tatooine yesterday and leveled VERY quickly... so now I need another 18k or so just to train my missing skills. Anyway, I'm sure I'll get out of the annoying hole I'm in with money before too long.
Luckily i have my wife, otherwise i would have the same problem. Its our 3. MMO we play together and like in first two, she sells everything for good gold/credits. I understand the concept of selling and buying, but i sell for two low and buy high priced. ...and realize it later

See, I've read that, but what's the big deal of it over other things? Why is it such a money maker?
The other professions all cost money and give you some item, which may or may not be able to be sold or used on something profitable. Crafting isn't very profitable this early in the games life.
Slicing lets you find credit boxes in the world, which just give you money. The missions also cost money, but you come back with credit boxes and sometimes other missions.
It makes money because it makes money, rather then items. It's already been nerfed once because it was insanely powerful at launch. We had one in my guild who bought FIVE people speeders, gave away 200k in credits just to people who were crafters and poor, and still had half a million. At level 30. The nerf made it less profitable then it used to be, but you still make money at it.
I completely forgot about the tab for training sage abilities until just now. And because of this I now have this stuck in my head:
In other words, Slicing gives direct money. You send your companions on Lockbox missions and they bring back more credits than you paid them. You don't have to sell anything, you don't get any extra items. You just gain credits straight up and don't have do anything else. Sometimes you get less credits than you paid for the mission, but on average you get a return rate of something like 1.3 I think.
And the additional bonus are the lockboxes scattered around the planets that give credits just as well.
Does anyone know if you lose all of your training if you switch to a different crew skill? eg can I go back to a previous crew skill and retain my levels?

Re: Tatooine, I actually liked it. The quest flow is pretty good there, and the large open spaces mean you can usually skip a lot of mobs that aren't relevant to your objectives.
Alderaan in contrast flows pretty badly (Empire side at least)--lots of back and forth and slogging through huge palaces of mobs that don't count for any objectives. I'd definitely advise milking everything you can from Tatooine before moving on so you can spend as little time on Alderaan as possible.
I'm really having a blast playing this.
I really enjoyed Alderaan, but that might be due to the Consular class storyline more then anything else. Those can vary wildly in quality between classes and planets.
For me Tattoine was a place to gain contacts and sever an infamous training ground for terrorists. Sure I was marooned there and sure I still hate the bastard governor that put my ship in lockdown until I agreed to serve him, but I learned how to scavenge for survival rather than profit. I made a few very important contacts within the exchange and republic ranks. I got off that rock stronger and smarter. Alderaan is proving to be a much more complicated spy game. I like complicated games.
Also, been making some pretty good credits on the market selling Armor Mods. They are in high demand if you take the time to reverse engineer. I make it a point to write down every scrapyard I find for each grade of metal. That way I can diversify my goods later on in the game.
Well, I managed to get over my extreme hatred of tatooine and now actually like it. Managed to almost get caught up on all my bounty hunter training as well - just missing one, but I should be able to knock that out quickly enough now that I've got a little cash flow. I really enjoyed the quest where you uncover artifacts and learn a little bit about the infinite empire. I think that's what finally got me into like tatooine. I also dig how some areas are flag for PvP and force you to go to that. I think this is the first planet I've come across that does that so far.
Anyway, back to having fun with the game again.
I swore I would never touch an MMO.........sigh......well the Star Wars story is just too good so yeah.......
I'm now rolling a level 38 Sith Juggernaut (had to go imperial......no way am I rolling republic scum! hehe).
pacov, you gain more credits from completing ALL bonus mission objectives as well as keeping your credits by not dying. Everytime you die your armour takes a huge hit and if you need to repair it at a vendor you can have a big bill really fast. For instance after one particularily hard boss battle and many deaths the repair bill for my healer companion and myself (I had solo'd that quest) was just shy of 7,000 credits.
Also, as pointed out.......I can't even get a new skill these days for under 15-20K. Isn't really a problem though cause I've been saving for the speeder upgrade at level 40 and currently have about 300,000 credits saved.
Make sure you do missions with your companions and make sure your companions LIKE you (as in keep working at maxing out their "affection") since your mission results with companions will yield better results the more they like you.
