A sad, sad day for people who enjoyed the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. world as much as I have. Sunk countless hours in SOC and played with and without mods many, many, times right till the end.Wasn't much for Clear Sky but Call of Pripyat was enjoyable but sadly there aren't too many mods out there for it.
I am disappointed that Stalker 2 from the looks of it won't see the light of day. They cite PC development as part of the problem but also a failed console development contract. I am gonna go out on a limb here and say that Stalker 2 probably wouldn't have done to well on consoles, much harder to play and much less forgiving of mistakes than most FPS's out there (probably would have been changed to make it easier with a controller but that would have a negative backlash from the PC community).
Just disappointed that may favorite PC FPS franchise is going to end.
On a side note there are many excellent mods out there for the games that breath new life into the game world.

Is this actually true? I've read a few contradictory rumors, so I'm still trying to be optimistic about the future of the series. I love the series, but I would rather keep replaying the 3 that I already have than see another "consolized" version of a game franchise I once cherished.
I'll just wait for a spiritual successor if so. The list of games I've enjoyed as much as SoC and CoP is entirely too short, and many of the games there are just older games from my childhood that aren't as fun without rose tinted glasses.
Shit's been crazy with this. Been hard to establish what's true and what's not, and it seems like everyone "knows someone" who is close to it and who has their own take on what's happened or will happen.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the game resurface in a few months time under new owners and with new backers. But given that it's been days since the story broke and there's been no retraction or official announcement, I'm going with the assumption that GSC Gameworld is dead and buried.
I am hoping they will get some new backers and put out another PC classic.
The Stalker series was fresh and invigorating and a hell of a good time.
