Am I streaming?
Well, I started a thread back in August (https://forums.joeuser.com/411269/) that's seen a lot of activity and actually had quite a few good bits of information for new and old players alike. I figure it's time to start a new thread and perhaps keep the OP up-to-date with useful information, etc. Feel free to use this post for any LoL discussion, etc.
Super fast background: I played a lot of Demigod as pacov/cheesuscrust. Back in August 2011 or so, I started getting heavily involved in LoL and folks have been kind enough to chime in with tips and links to various sites that have been quite useful to me. In addition, I've been able to keep up with folks that I've played Demigod with in the past and meet some new folks that play LoL and frequent these message boards.
Here's some of the things I've learned in the previous thread:

pacov's Guide to Improving at League of Legends and Moving Up in Elo
k - so I'm just going to put down some of my thoughts. I'm not amazing at this game, but I do certain things that improve my odds of winning in ranked and so far its panning out just fine (bronze 5 to gold 5 in about a month or so). We all have varied skill levels, so some of this might be useful and some not. Caveat complete.
Prerequisite- you need to know how to play every single role. You don't have to be a god at every single role (more power to you if you are - I'm certainly not). You need to be able to play at a serviceable level in every single role and excel at least at 1 role (preferably 2). In my case, I'm good at support and adc. I'm not great, but have serviceable mids and jungles and so so tops. Knowing what you are good at and bad at is very important. If you don't know, I can probably tell you - but you really should know... Anyway, you need to have enough champs to make solid picks in any role and you need to be able to cover any role if it comes down to it. I'll talk about how to get better at specific roles in a bit.
Champ select advice - Don't be the "fill" guy unless you really feel like you are awesome in all roles. Call your preferred role immediately when you hit the lobby. Say "adc pref." Do this as soon as you hit the lobby. Some people believe that if you call a role you magically get it. This is stupid, but if you call something out, folks will often accomodate your request. If you are feeling wishy washy for whatever reason, call out multiple roles in order of what you want to play - "adc/mid pref." In my experience, you generally do not want to call support. It's a very important role, but you want to be in a position to carry every single game if possible. If you aren't calling out a role, you are hoping that other players can carry you. If you are hoping that folks will carry you, you don't deserve to win. You need to know your best roles and you absolutely should request them.
Solo or duo in ranked? - Well, my 1st thought here is that you should solo. If you solo, you have to rely on yourself. IMO - its a much bigger test of skill to play solo and win than to duo. Do you want someone to carry you or do you really want to know that you are actually good? That said, provided you have the right duo partner, you can increase your odds of winning quite a bit. The simple math is that instead of having 4 teammates as unknown quantities, you only have 3. If you have a good duo teammate, you know what you can expect. When you duo, you get the most bang for your buck by having complimentary roles. Support/adc is good; jungle/mid also works. Even if you don't have direct symmetry in roles, if you are an amazing mid and I'm an amazing adc, our odds go up quite a bit if we both get those roles. Our odds go way down if we can't get those roles and are forced to play out of positions that we are weaker. For example, Bryff is a good mid. If he duo's up with me, the only way he will get to play that role is for me to call mid, take it myself, and then put myself into a position like support where I can't carry out of (I'm always 1st pick, Bryff is always last pick when we duo)... that and I have to show the mid I'm picking at the start which means Bryff gets hard countered. In short, we can expect that we will be a disadvantage when duo queuing. Now, if Bryff queued up with someone at a lower elo than himself that was solid, he'd likely be 1st pick and be able to get mid and have a better chance of carrying the game. Anyway, you need to keep in mind where you end up in pick order when duoing if you aren't looking to go adc/support. If you want that, you can usually get it.
How do you get better in roles that you are not good at? - Well, here's what I do. And this is really what I do on a regular basis. I think about what I'm good at and what I'm not good at. For instance, I realized that I don't play any hyper carry ads. So, I read up on hyper carries like vayne and kog maw. I look for guides on how to build them (most adcs are the same btw ), I look for vids on how people play them (eg how do I all in with a specific champ - is there a combo - when do I all in - what's the best way for me to burst - how should I behave in lane with this champ). Then, I fire up a custom game and try out the mechanics of whatever champ vs AI. Usually I learn a few tricks during that custom on how to position myself, etc. Then, I'm off to normal games where I'll request the role or character I'm trying out. Now, people still report your for being awful in normals, but it really is where you need to try out characters to see if you are any good or not as the bots are useless for proving your skill level to yourself. So, fire up that normal and ask to play a role (again - after you've tried out the champ against bots). If you don't know anyone you are with and you are quite awful, I suggest muting everyone at the start of the game. Then, do your best. Continue with this until you feel like you have a serviceable skill level in whatever role. And keep in mind what you need to work on. For me, I noticed I didn't really have alot of mids for ranked, so I started practicing some with gragas against and karth. That way, I'll be able to get the job done if I need to play mid. The next thing I need to do is put more time into being better top lane. Again, because while I prefer adc/support, I might need to play top for the team. So, best to be ready for it. Put your time in and practice roles.
One last thought - there are certain things you can generally expect in ranked. 1 - if you are 1st pick, you generally can call whatever you want. Common knowledge, I'm sure - but I'll add - CALL WHATEVER YOU WANT. 2 - if you duo queue, you generally can lock down both adc and support. It works best if your adc is 1st pick, ofc. I've bumped into like 10 random dedicated supports in all of my games of LoL. People generally aren't going to call support. So, if you are 1st pick and duo'd, just call adc and then your duo partner can almost always get support.

I'm not going to update this regularly, so just consider it a snapshot (I'll add a date when I update them). Anyway, I enjoy seeing folks progress through ranked and keeping tabs on that sort of thing from time to time.

What does the updated PBE contain?
No idea.
edit - actually, here's all it is.
We have just released a hotfix to address the following issue:
K - I'm uploading about 4 new vids and just finished uploading a quick montage of other clips. It's about 4 min long and covers all the content from a few days back. I'll probably post that on reddit and see if folks dig it or not.

edit - more info on the xin rework from riot
"He will feel a lot like live Xin. I put a lot of emphasis into that because I felt people were most drawn to his manlyness. As for actual rundowns New Passive Some changes to Q and W E is largely the same R has been epicced"
Another new thing on the PBE - AFK detection pre game. Here's what riot has to say
Here are some of the rules for the new system: - When the queue pops, each player should receive a dialog box asking them to confirm or decline their newly found game. - Players who click ACCEPT are shown real-time status markers for all other players in their game. - When all 10 players click ACCEPT they are moved into champ select.- If any player FAILS TO ACCEPT the game is canceled and one of the following should occur:
- Solo players who accepted are returned to the queue - Solo players who declined or failed to make a choice are removed from the queue - Arranged teams of any size whose members all accepted will be returned to the queue - Arranged teams of any size who had one or more members decline will be returned to the arranged team lobby.
- Players should receive appropriate messaging if their game fails to start - Players should NOT receive queue dodge or leaver penalties associated with declining a game or being AFK prior to entering champ select.
When a player declines a game, they are removed from the queue. In order to repeatedly decline games, you'd have to rejoin the queue from the bottom each time. Per the specifications above, any players who are eligible to be requeued (They either accepted as a solo player, or were on a team where everybody accepted) will keep their spot. You can only repeatedly fizzle games for the same people if you're on a team with them, in which case you should stop being mean to your friends (Or they might kick you before requeueing ) With that said, we're still keeping a close eye on how this feature is used and will make any tuning/adjustments necessary if an opportunity for improvement is found.
This should be working for all Matchmade queues.
How long has it been taking for you? Reforming your arranged team for matchmade games is new for this feature and (in its current form) utilizes the existing invite system. There may be a delay since multiple team members can be re-invited at the same time. While testing this feature, it seemed a lot more convenient for the team to be re-formed for you (as opposed to having to form the team again yourself) even if a delay was present. With that said, as we constantly improve the way our systems work, we are most assuredly open to revisiting the experience of forming teams and queueing up for games to make improvements

edit - fyi - a patch of some sort is being released tonight - not the eve/twitch/xin rework
On July 11, 2012, starting at 23:30 PDT, ranked queues will be disabled in preparation for the 1.62 patch. At 01:00 PDT, the servers will be shut down. As this time, all games currently in progress will end in a draw and stats will not be recorded. We estimate that the battlegrounds will be unavailable for approximately 4 hours.
The upcoming changes in the patch are:
Stay tuned to this thread for more updates!
edit - peter's "sugar piss" vid has 76 views now (after 4 hours or so). I'm confident that pete will go viral at some point.
I didn't have a heck of a lot of time for making vids today. Managed to get one up. I might redo it. This is cow's NEAR penta-kill in aram pulling an empire as nunu. Worth a look if you haven't seen. Once I sort out (if I can) the screaming audio, I'll probably post another version that includes a slow down of his quadra.

Goodness - you folks have been chatty lately, haven't you.
Other changes of interest in the PBE
Kass is taking a nerf again to his ult - He's doing less damage at later levels, but getting better ap scaling (.5 to .8)... it's kind of a buff. For instance, if you have 300 ap, you'd to 150 added damage before. Now you'd do 240 dmg (increase of 90) - But, they are reducing the base dmg + the bonus you get from subsequent casts of his ult and the 1st cast of his ult (was 60/90/120 now is 60/70/80). The numbers work out so that its an early game buff, a mid game nerf, and a strong late game with added dmg. In short, its really not going to make a heck of alot of difference imo outside of late game. He could carry a bit harder late game now.
zigg's satchel charge is getting a some additional cdr - won't really make any difference, but it was way too high at early levels anyway, so that's slightly better, but still crap
Urgot's the interesting 1 - Base damage of acid hunter going to 50/80/110/140/170 from 10/40/70/100/130. I doubt this works out as a buff as they likely are changing the formula on how the damage is calculated. Probably instead of basing the bonus on total AD, its likely just bonus ad. This is probably to discourage folks (read - everyone) from building more tanky items on him as his AD will fall off some. They are also increasing the CD on corrosive charge, so this is all pretty much a nerf imo.
gp gets a qol buff. Parley refunds half of the mana cost when it scores a killing blow now. This will help gp's sustain if used as a jungler but mostly help top lane as he get's a gold bonus for last hitting with parley as well.
Akali restores more energy when busting a mark of the assassin - this is a nice buff early/mid
Malph = nerf. Ground slam now gives AS bonus for 3 seconds instead of 4 and this scales off 30% of armor instead of 50%. This will hurt jungle malph + top lane malph a bit
orianna - another buff. AP ratio changed on command: attack to .05 from .04. Not huge, but with the really low cd now, that coudl add up.
heart of gold gives 200 hp instead of 250 (woo)
philo stone health regen reduced to 3 from 3.6
thanks for posting these updates Pacov
Another HOG nerf? That's just stupid. Don't really get why that's needed. Same goes for Philospher's. I guess the logic is probably to nerf sustain bruisers get from it, but it also hurts junglers and support.
Urgot and Malphite nerfs were pretty much expected, with the recent tournament play.
I thought this was pretty interesting (Malzahar mechanics improvements, Peter should be thrilled):
http://www.reignofgaming.net/redtracker/topic/72776-good-news-from-the-pbe-about-malzahar
I'm very excited about these changes!
They're even fixing Xerath. Don't know if anyone knows the story cause he's not the most popular mid but here's a timeline:
-Stealth nerfed in the Draven patch in an effort to make the damage and his animation from his ultimate match up. End result was a huge delay in both the damage once the animation started, the casting time, and the total combo time of Xerath's burst. Essentially made him completely non viable
-Riot said the nerf went out without the intended buffs, said they were sorry.
-Buffs came out, didn't come close to compensating for Xerath not having a landable ultimate.
-Many forum posts were made. Apparently there are some Xerath players out there and they make up for their lack of numbers with an impressive love of their champion.
-Riot responds that the animation and delay on the ultimate is going back but will match better. The opponent will get a very short chance to flash out or spell shield when the animation starts. I love this because they're actually right in that the animation looked completely wonky compared to when the damage happened before all the changes, and I approve of the counter play potential. Xerath gets to keep his recent buffs to compensate for people being able to react to his ultimate.
So yeah, I've always wanted to learn Xerath better but he's always felt a little "off" and ult heavy so I'm pretty stoked. Love the new skin too...
Good reading - thx. If anyone gets a moment, would you post the specific bonuses you get from blue buff? can't look up at work.
edit - just read the malz stuff. Might actually have to pick him up now (or when he's patched in). Def going to check out on PBE. Seriously, a bunch of us should get the latest PBE and play some games tonight. Lots of fun new things there.
malz's minions dance delightful. casting null zone while on the move as an instant cast is pretty freaking good. And the voidling hiding when you are hinding - and not being retarded? pretty big win there. mmm... retarded ad malz pacov someday soon...
Blue buff off the top of my head:
20% CDR
25 mana regen per 5 seconds
0.5% mana regen of your total mana pool
EDITor was it 1% per 1% missing? I don't remember
heh.. 9 minute queue time to get onto PBE. Methinks many nerds are excited.
I usually don't like badminstrators vids, but this one is good imo

EG - confirmed - HUGE PATCH INBOUND my bet is next week sometime.
public service announcement - the meta is starting to change. It really is.
http://imgur.com/a0gfF
This is becoming more and more common in super high elo games. I agree.
oh wow
what should we do to adapt?
I told you solo top is good for AD pacov. We do not really have to adapt. I can already play AD in any lane Kr ^.~
I have a hard time with AD carries, but I can play AP carries in any lane...
pfft - been saying this also sucka. wonder what the best setup is, though.
It's not really a meta change - top has always been a "whatever" lane, so swapping in an AD Carry instead of something else doesn't really change the meta. The defining characteristic of the meta is the 0 CS/AD carry combo bot, which is still intact.
pew pew pew pew to you, good sir.
