Stardock announced today that its PC strategy titles are hitting Steam starting with the real-time strategy hit Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity ($19.95, http://store.steampowered.com/app/201290) The Sins of a Solar Empire series has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and swept many of the top gaming media awards, including IGN’s overall PC Game of the Year award. Steam and Gamestop PC Downloads are featuring Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity at a 25 percent off discount this week.
“With the sale of our former PC digital download technology to GameStop earlier this year, we no longer have any conflicts of interest in offering our titles to other digital distribution channels,” said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock. “We are starting with Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity with other titles being made available over the coming weeks.”
More distribution platform announcements are planned for Stardock titles in the coming weeks in order to give fans the opportunity to play on the platform of their choice.

It is a choice, but a great many people have a preference for it. I have used Impulse only for Stardock games, and it is a pain to have to use another client. Just a few weeks ago I bought five copies of Trinity on Impulse as gifts for friends, not knowing this was in the pipes, and I've now got some serious remorse.
Is this decision final, or is it still a possibility that can be investigated?
Sweet one of my favorite games is on Steam! Ohh wait I have to repurchase it to play...gee....thanks.
Amazing how the Indie/Humble Bundle group can allow you to download from their site and even allow you to redeem Steam keys for past purchases if you so desire. Here I paid $40 dollars and am forced to purchase it again for $15 and that doesn't include the upcoming expansion. All this time waiting for Sins to go on Steam and it was the biggest let down ever. Thanks.
Keys purchased from Impulse are tied to that service and we can't give them to Steam. It's more technical than anything.
Nobody is forcing you to re-purchase. I can't comment on what another publisher does, but as I said in the other post, Impulse keys are tied there, we can't change that now.
On STEAM? About time! hehe
Yes, I know but I have +500 games on Steam but only Sins of a Solar Empire and Demigod on Impulse account. So it would be really good to move my games to Steam. Impulse client is slow and buggy and I don't like it.
Also I have a question about something. I will buy the game again from Steam I think but can I use my old Ironclad Account for multiplayer or I need to create a new account for multiplayer? I am asking this because Steam and Impulse serial numbers are different I think for multiplayer.
Okay, thank you for your responses so far.
Now, you say that the problem is technical in nature. If it were a legal issue, which was my first thought, I would understand and let it go. A technical problem gives me hope that customer support can manually sort out the licenses for me and my friends.
Well technical was a broad term. As I said, current keys are tied to the Impulse service, so they won't be transferred.
Planning on re purchasing it withing the hour
Oh btw can we get a hat for TF2 if so that would be awesome!
Can I get answer for this question please? Thank you.
Good news! This will grow the community for when Rebellion comes out. Will I re-buy? Ehh we'll see.
Trying to get a definite answer....standby....
I don't get wanting to repurchase the game, but kudo's to stardock for figuring out a way to increase net adds with existing customers
I am very happy the game is available on Steam since I never liked Impulse. But I think you are missing a key feature, i.e. making the game available for free -or very very cheap- to the people who already own the Impulse version.
This should be a priority.
Alienating existing customers is never a good strategy.
Since generating Steam keys for existing accounts may lead to extra copies given to friends, I suggest the following remedy:
If someone requests a Steam key, they can get it if they agree to have their original license on Impulse revoked.
I'd already sent a mail to Stardock support to see if I could have this done (remove the Impulse license, give me the Steam one), but they told me it was not.
I imagine the GameStop guys would have quite a bit of reason to prevent that kind of thing from happening. That maybe the very problem they were talking about.

What I meant is that with Steam, people buying the game now have an overall better package compared to people who already have it on Impulse. The customers who bought and supported the game in the past might feel left out -alienated- of an important improvement. I know I do and I bet I'm not alone.
How do people who buy game on steam have better package
Instead of re-purchasing, would it make sense just to wait and get Rebellion on Steam, which will have everything (it will right), if one were so inclined? (Just a general question, I'm comfortable with my previous pre-order decisions.)
For instance I only purchased Stardock products over Impulse to support Stardock. I would prefer all my content be with one provider and Steam has won that position due to the broad product offering, quality of the platform, and market timing.
Anyways, I do have a question though. Having purchased War of Magic on release through impulse, how will the free expansions be handled? My obvious preference is that if they are available via Steam I be provided a copy through Steam rather than Impulse. I do not like the idea of having multiple gaming libraries through different providers. EA is annoying enough right now with Origin.
Lets remember the Stardock store is the preferred place to buy our games, obviously. Steam is just another outlet we are making our games available on. This does not affect your current game, and we aren't giving away keys just so they can be applied to another platform.
Sins: Rebellion pre-orders right now are Stardock store only, and will likely remain that way for some time.
