Stardock announced today that its PC strategy titles are hitting Steam starting with the real-time strategy hit Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity ($19.95, http://store.steampowered.com/app/201290) The Sins of a Solar Empire series has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and swept many of the top gaming media awards, including IGN’s overall PC Game of the Year award. Steam and Gamestop PC Downloads are featuring Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity at a 25 percent off discount this week.
“With the sale of our former PC digital download technology to GameStop earlier this year, we no longer have any conflicts of interest in offering our titles to other digital distribution channels,” said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock. “We are starting with Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity with other titles being made available over the coming weeks.”
More distribution platform announcements are planned for Stardock titles in the coming weeks in order to give fans the opportunity to play on the platform of their choice.

I wish for people who have bought the game from Stardock aka Gamestop will give people who have bought the game before this update will be given free copies.
Oops, accidental double post caused by forum lag.
That's great news. Will those of us who purchased Sins and all of the expansions previously be able to just register them at STEAM now? Will updates also be available there?
I hope this means we can finally get a dedicated Sins forum at the Steam forums. Earlier I created a Steam group to advertise Sins online multiplayer:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SinsOnline
Hmm, should I complain that we might start getting steam fanbois or happy that the community might grow even larger now?
I am curious though will Sins still be DRM free if gotten on steam (I.e. can uninstall steam and still play like on Impulse/Gamestop or the stardock store).
No, only Steam purchases will be available there. You cannot register the games which were bought previously.
I can't tell you how happy this makes me, I can finally remove gamestop from my machine and still enjoy the awesomeness that is Sins.
While getting a free copy on steam would have been nice simply being able to remove gamestop is so awesome I'm rebuying Sins right now.
What about Rebellion? If we already pre-ordered that can we get a Steam code for it once it's out?
Considering we preordered it through the Sins site and not gamestop that might be a possibility. At the least we should be able to use the upcoming Stardock Store.
Pre-orders for Rebellion are only going through our (Stardock) store right now. I don't have any other information about future plans.
Yeah that's my thinking. If we bought it through the Stardock store (which we did), they're not losing any money by giving us a Steam key. All it does is means I don't have to start up another client to update it, which I'd really like.
Nothing personal against SDC coming back, I just don't want yet another client.
Are you sure about that... Key's sold through Stardock store generate revenue towards Stardock only. Key's sold/registered with Steam require Steam make a portion of that sell. I'm pretty sure that's why Steam doesn't want non-Steam sold keys being registered on their site.
If it means that much though you can probably cancel your pre-order with Stardock and wait for Rebellion on Steam.
No, not sure at all. But with other games I've had and wanted to do this they've been able to simply give me a key that lets me register it on Steam as if I bought at retail, in which case Steam doesn't get any money out of it. That was how I got stuff like AI War moved over.
So it's strictly from a user POV that I talk, I don't know how it works behind the scenes. But I figured it was worth asking. The actual money is going through Stardock's store, all it'd do is let me download/patch in Steam instead of SDC.
Interesting, well that's a good example. I was just trying to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why this wasn't allowed for Sins.
I understand the bulk of those are steamworks games.
I would assume that if you buy direct from Stardock that you can only download from Stardock.
<insert standard anti-steam rant here>
sigh.
Hey - Quick quick question will we be able to redeem our retail keys for Sins and other stardock Games on steam?
I bought the base sins of a solar empire back when it came out same with Galactic Civilizations 2.
An Answer would be appreciated
I'm pimping this at two forums:

What we need is for this to get advertised at Starcraft and other RTS game forums. Sins seems to have such a damned low profile amongst the RTS online multiplayer PvP crowd.

Rock on, sir....rock on.
Going to do the same
We need to buy our games again, oh that's nice. I love Steam and I could buy the game again for $9.99 but not for $15. That is so annoying that we can't register our keys to Steam.
AI War's not a Steamworks game. If it was a Steamworks game it'd already have been on Steam and I wouldn't have needed to move it once Gamestop started mucking up Impulse.
You don't *have* to if you already own it. Having to have it on Steam is a choice.
Just had to update all versions of SINS again. Was the reason for it that it is selling on steam as well?
The last updates were updates for MP server hosts.
