As most of us know, there are two main communities in Sins of a Solar Empire, one for multiplayer and one for modding. Bar the occasional group of friends playing a mod on ICO together however, these two communities rarely interact with each other, besides occasional discussions of game balance.
Therefore I propose a little icebreaker in the true Sins fashion, complete with the typical disintegration of metal, screams of nuked worlds, and if we're lucky even the rare space pony sighting, that we've all come to know and love, regardless of which form of Sins we get most of our entertainment from. Yes, I think its time for the first ever Pro Player vs Modders MP game!
Of course as we are meeting in the Pro player's home court, I think in the interest of a semi-interesting game the modders will need a team advantage of some sort. Any ideas on the exact number of players on each team as well as the best time to arrange this will be welcome (I'd guess sometime on Thanksgiving weekend). And of course, if you're interested do let us know.
I'd like to have one pro player sort of be in charge of the logistics of making the game who promises to be there, presumably if any of the other pros don't show we can find substitutes at the game launch. As modders don't often log on to ICO don't commit unless you're sure you can make it at whatever time we agree on. Also if possible I think it would be nice for as many different mods as possible to be represented, but obviously filling the roster comes first.

That was the plan, I'll upload the replay later today if no one else does. The second game will go on YouTube when I have time and if Auqia hasn't vetoed it, though I guess Krdax already uploaded it so it probably doesn't matter.
I am, though I'm guessing even if Ue_Carbon and Sinperium are able to play this time we'll need to get somebody to replace SpardaSon. Unless he wants to come back for a shot at vengeance of course.
I'm 95% positive I can make the game time. Count me (LittleBoshimi) in and I'll lose splendidly.
I just wateched the YouTube video with you all on TS. I feel like a total asshole now. That game was totally imbalanced.
Can you guys increase the sound quality of team speak? If you have fast connections then i don't see why not. Your pings can't rise by a subsantial amount.
Think about it for the next game.
Oh and the im working excuse after 6pm is somewhat redundant. Just say your wife won't be pleased if your not in bed with her while you play games or your girlfriend is constantly texting you and won't understand your lack of enthusiasm to text her because of a game.
I understand your all in different geographical locations but the Modders team need more players and support.
In all fairness good game everyone -- and for all of you who playsd can you go to your multi-player auto record folder and upload the first game replay!!? You can check which one it is in-game:
Oh and im busy but i like gaming. Im so busy that i have to gym to stay fit and have energy for gaming.
I don't advice you to take redbull before the game but try take it easy on the days your going to game and since saturdays as i know involves some of you going out to drink/ have sex/ flirt / movies/ dinner etc.
Just arrange some time during the week when your all going to be bored.
I might be up for another go under a couple conditions:
1. Something happens to balance the teams out. 3vAuqia with the modders barely winning isn't encouraging for our chances. If it really needs to be fair, it needs to be more like 3v6.
2. Mecha-Lenin pays for all of my therapy.
Its not gonna be 'fair' till we have a group of modders who are on the same lvl as they are. Hence why these games should be a fun, relaxed game.

There was no way to avoid it, it was basically the 4 best players versus the worst 4 players, even with half the players being smurfs in a PUG match there is no way the teams would ever be stacked that unfairly. There is nothing to feel bad about. If not enough people can show up again we should probably just agree to do a PUG, besides actually forcing modders and pros to work together might actually be a good idea.
I think mike quality was the issue with me and Krdax. I only have my laptop's build in microphone ATM so no amount of quality is going to make that much better.
There is no reason for criticizing him. Its much better that he say he's not going to come so we can find a replacement.

Pretty much the same here, but Friday is the last day of class so the weekend is fine for me.
I warn that at times I was shocked at bad things that happened to Auqia and did not have a clue why they were happening, so I might have said some things in surprise that can come across as in poor taste. Talking after, I figured out why he did certain things and still hand it to him for holding us off pretty damned well.
I still cursed a lot too.
All I can say in response to this is that there are people on these forums that do not know what hours they are working until they get a call from the factory or office 2-4 hours before hand with a "Can you come in? We're short staffed and this really needs to get done." Why does this need to be criticized and in such a poor manner? I work between 40-60 hours a week and I never know which one it is. Half the weekends in each month I'm at the office. [/soapbox]
I dont' speak for all modders but at least myself and a few others that I know, when we play a game, we're kicked back on slow or normal settings, sipping a beer, munching on snacks and chatting with our buds on teamspeaks for 4-12 hours and when we lose we shrug and still have fun. It isn't the end of the world and in fact the simple joy of playing in the mod that we created is often fun enough. I personally do not have a drive to do better than I am doing now because I am having a blast with what I'm doing! It is as simple as that.
Make it as unfairly balanced as you want I don't care.
What I DO care about is this just turning into a balanced PUG game which is not what I signed up for. I signed up for the imbalance between Pros vs Modders to see how well we can actually do. I signed up for my butt to be totally and completely trounced while I sip on a beer and have a blast watching all the 'pew pew*' explosions while playing vanilla and then playing the pros in a mod at a later date and seeing how well they do then. Again, all the while sipping a beer, laughing about my eminent destruction, and seeing how much a pain in the rear my ships can be before I die. Deal?

Well the truth is i find it difficult to understand why people can't show up when they say they will and claim there boss called them in for work. Contractors? Assassins? What happened to logically ordered shifts between employees? IM just saying--the best excuse revolves around recreational stuff like wemen and having a good time.
And stay at the Library and do your homework before you go home-- home is resting/gaming and doing the last bit of homework you have..
