As most of us know, there are two main communities in Sins of a Solar Empire, one for multiplayer and one for modding. Bar the occasional group of friends playing a mod on ICO together however, these two communities rarely interact with each other, besides occasional discussions of game balance.
Therefore I propose a little icebreaker in the true Sins fashion, complete with the typical disintegration of metal, screams of nuked worlds, and if we're lucky even the rare space pony sighting, that we've all come to know and love, regardless of which form of Sins we get most of our entertainment from. Yes, I think its time for the first ever Pro Player vs Modders MP game!
Of course as we are meeting in the Pro player's home court, I think in the interest of a semi-interesting game the modders will need a team advantage of some sort. Any ideas on the exact number of players on each team as well as the best time to arrange this will be welcome (I'd guess sometime on Thanksgiving weekend). And of course, if you're interested do let us know.
I'd like to have one pro player sort of be in charge of the logistics of making the game who promises to be there, presumably if any of the other pros don't show we can find substitutes at the game launch. As modders don't often log on to ICO don't commit unless you're sure you can make it at whatever time we agree on. Also if possible I think it would be nice for as many different mods as possible to be represented, but obviously filling the roster comes first.

10 PM EST sounds good to me. This is still the Saturday after Thanksgiving, right?
Auqia is master1a.
And I think Greg said he'd give up his spot for Auqia, so that just leaves Quar... but the pros already have 4.
Yup, the 26th.
Oh lol, someone really has to publish a list of all these forum/ICO aliases.
Okay then yeah, I guess I will sub Auqia/master1a for Greg. As for Quar and Greg, I guess we'll check first that all the pros can play at whatever time we agree on, if not we'll have on of them fill in. If any other pros are interested, just login on ICO at the time the game is scheduled (TBA) and if a pro doesn't show up we'll just add whoever happens to be on at the time.
And keep in mind that we can have a second match later on. Not necessarily the mod match either. We can rotate players and do another vanilla first. I'm central, so 10pm EST works nice. Hopefully no one tries to distract me.
10pm EST is ~04:00 in Europe, so about 3h earlier would be nice.
10 pm EST is too late for me too. 10 pm is 3 am GMT. 3h sooner would be much better for me too.
Cannot speak for quar but he is in same time zone as mecha so it might be very late for him as well.
10pm EST is perfect for me. Three hours sooner would work I think. Real men don't need sleep.
Errr...I thought it was Sunday?
Three hours sooner should work for me too.
Okay, well since no one has reported being on Pacific yet, we'll try 7pm EST.
No, Sunday really doesn't work well for me. It maybe possible but not ideal. So far no one else has complained about Saturday the 26th (or I suppose it will be very early Sunday for the GMT 0+ people).
Later Saturday is better for me or earlier Sunday--but I think I can make it work if it is no earlier than 7pm Saturday (eight or later would be better then).
I'm on Pacific Standard Time. 4 P.M. my time on Saturday is fine though.
Agreed that 7:00 PM EST is good. I'm in the US east coast, and I'd still prefer the 7 PM time. I like sleep.
I'm in CST, so that would be 6:00?
Never was good with time zones...
-edit-
works for me.
Alright, that's very good because its pretty hard to work with a 12 hour time difference.
Yup, and me too.
Yesterday my water pump gave its last breath on my PC. [e digicons]:'([/e]
I'm not sure replacement one will come in time for the match and my 10 y/o laptop cannot handle very long games. That means I might not make it to play this particular match. I don't want to lag when my cpu is at 100%.
Auqia my slot is yours.
Will be looking forward to reply and future games.....
Chicken
Incorrect sir--it's nearly Thanksgiving for us Yanks.
Turkey!
I wanna play and if you guys think we can kill them before my comp starts lagging due to massive fleets or put up with my lag I am still in.
He's betting on our demise.
Well, 4v6 the pros might just be able to do it unless we're fighting on a custom map that forces them to attack through a single chokepoint.
No custom maps allowed
Yup, until we get auto map sharing its just too much of a pain. We're taking the pros on their home turf, if only to see how good of a fight we put up. Then if they really want to prove how tough they are they can try fighting us on our customized world of mods and maps.
No need for custom maps in either case. The mods are a big enough mechanical change. Imagine a Kol that actually does cap sized damage!
With real armor that makes it the brick tank it should be. I wish I had kept that replay of Pbhead and I where he drops about 100 bombers on my Kol. It laughed and kept going.
That's right. Play the DS mod and some of the ways a MP game play out go right out the window. Not to say that the general ideas of how to win go away, but the value of varying classes and planets shift about severely.
