As most of us know, there are two main communities in Sins of a Solar Empire, one for multiplayer and one for modding. Bar the occasional group of friends playing a mod on ICO together however, these two communities rarely interact with each other, besides occasional discussions of game balance.
Therefore I propose a little icebreaker in the true Sins fashion, complete with the typical disintegration of metal, screams of nuked worlds, and if we're lucky even the rare space pony sighting, that we've all come to know and love, regardless of which form of Sins we get most of our entertainment from. Yes, I think its time for the first ever Pro Player vs Modders MP game!
Of course as we are meeting in the Pro player's home court, I think in the interest of a semi-interesting game the modders will need a team advantage of some sort. Any ideas on the exact number of players on each team as well as the best time to arrange this will be welcome (I'd guess sometime on Thanksgiving weekend). And of course, if you're interested do let us know.
I'd like to have one pro player sort of be in charge of the logistics of making the game who promises to be there, presumably if any of the other pros don't show we can find substitutes at the game launch. As modders don't often log on to ICO don't commit unless you're sure you can make it at whatever time we agree on. Also if possible I think it would be nice for as many different mods as possible to be represented, but obviously filling the roster comes first.

Fixed.
I would have hopped back on so you could get those referrals. I had a decent Eve character for about a year.
I have one week until my son's wedding is done and our contractor is finished--then I should be able to have a more manageable schedule to play.
For those who dont have the TS IP:

Just a reminder, personal annoyance here....please dont just pop on then pop off. If your gonna spend the time to even log onto the server make sure you at least say hi. All I ask.
Err..I pooped on and said hi and popped off becasue no one was there. Don't hurt me.
I was wondering, if Carbon had PMS would that make it the Carbonaceous period?
I'm with Sinperium here...I popped on several times this past weekend (was it saturday? I don't know for sure) but no one was on....
I was very sad....
I just haven't had time ...
I'll be back on tonight and tomorrow.
Well its looking kind of dead now but I'll be on the TS in a half hour (Remember the new address) if anyone is looking for a game. I suspect it will be Distant Stars if we can get Carbon to play since he refuses to play any mod with Vanilla bombers anymore.
Damn straight!
Im above the low social status of bomber spam. Good day sir.
I said good day!
My son got married last night--so I was a little busy.
My contractor is finished and my wife's vacation time is up this week.
So next weekend I am back with a vengeance. Prepare to die.
Ah ... Sinperium diplomacy ... free hugs for everyone!
I'm trying out a variation of this with SotF. I may have to actually create anti-structure units for Hypercorp and Rogue Traders now though
Nephilim has an anti-structure but I may have to tweak it around a bit and Plague has it's moving queen so no worries there.
Granted Carbon maybe the only one that knows what I'm talking about
So any chance of us having a game this weekend? Or are we going to keep on being boring isolationists.
Well there's a very good chance I'll be on the TS...however, I may be inclined to work on modding rather than play a game, it depends on my mood...and my tolerance for continual failure...
I'm not an isolationist--I'm a prisoner! ...of my schedule. However, I will be on this weekend as I would love the break. I'll let my wife know.
I haven't gone back and retried but have you noticed what the proper syntax is for specifying in templates whether a race is Tech or Psi or Phase?
The standard ones worked but I had tried others with Loyalist and the like and had no luck with them.
Well even if its just you, Zombie and I all modding our own things its a bit less boring that way, if also a bit less productive.
Yeah, you have to specify TechRebel/TechLoyalist AdventRebel/Advent loyalist now. Of course Galaxy Forge hasn't been updated to allow you to do that so I did it in notepad. Check out my Free Tutorial map if you want to see an example.

Thanks--I had done it in like the first release and it didn't work--I figured they'd be fixing it...just didn't have time again to check. Thanks.
Ok...we've all talked in the Modder's room about doing a comic (or even serious) voice mod so after talking this weekend, I thought I'd put up a demo.
It's just a really short (no humor yet--sorry) sample of my imitation of a Vasari and Advent voice.
I used to do radio voice work--so this was fun. Unfortunately my current comp has horrible system noise. I'll try the other machine if we get serious.
^Haha. Not bad, I think we can make it work. The Advent echo effect might be the hardest thing to do actually. Certainly won't be hard to fix the noise in Audacity when trying to work on that.
I can get the echo in there just fine, just re-record with a mike and speaker about 2-2.25 feet apart and you'll get close enough for tweaking. You can do this multiple times to get something that is a bit more distorted.
I believe Sinperium has already heard my voice acting. I could do Vasari!
RANGE LOCKED IN
I can actually add echo. You take the original un-echoed version and layer it with a copy that has echo added--then you mix them down until it sounds like what you want.
The Advent effect is more like an auditorium preset effect I think.
That's what my method gets you. ^_-
Lol--but that's cheating. I actually hand mix mine. As much of it is varying your own natural tempo and pitch when you speak as it is the software. Depending on how tired or hoarse you are you vary some too.
I think we should do a Highlander vs. Lucky Charms vs. Enter the Dragon voice mod with fake Irish, Scottish and Chinese accents.
"I dinna kin yer daft spich you farkin' alien!".
"At last--we'll be havin' our lucky charms back!"
"Woooaaawahooo--HEEYAH!"
Irish highlanders now? I mean its almost the same accent, but still.
