As most of us know, there are two main communities in Sins of a Solar Empire, one for multiplayer and one for modding. Bar the occasional group of friends playing a mod on ICO together however, these two communities rarely interact with each other, besides occasional discussions of game balance.
Therefore I propose a little icebreaker in the true Sins fashion, complete with the typical disintegration of metal, screams of nuked worlds, and if we're lucky even the rare space pony sighting, that we've all come to know and love, regardless of which form of Sins we get most of our entertainment from. Yes, I think its time for the first ever Pro Player vs Modders MP game!
Of course as we are meeting in the Pro player's home court, I think in the interest of a semi-interesting game the modders will need a team advantage of some sort. Any ideas on the exact number of players on each team as well as the best time to arrange this will be welcome (I'd guess sometime on Thanksgiving weekend). And of course, if you're interested do let us know.
I'd like to have one pro player sort of be in charge of the logistics of making the game who promises to be there, presumably if any of the other pros don't show we can find substitutes at the game launch. As modders don't often log on to ICO don't commit unless you're sure you can make it at whatever time we agree on. Also if possible I think it would be nice for as many different mods as possible to be represented, but obviously filling the roster comes first.

Well we really really need to know if the other people can move to 5 EST so Mecha-Lenin can play...I have a feeling the people playing probably won't check this thread till right before the game (other than maybe GoaFan), so it might be a lost cause....
In any rate, I was shocked that the last game was a 4v4...understandably, it would have been probably difficult to make the 3v5 fair, but I'd have a hard time believing a 3v5 would have been worse than a 4v4....
ok this is where you are almost completely off base. The reason that there are no quality replays is that in almost every 5s game that you would consider "Quality", ends in at least one or more players minidumping. If even one player minidumps, the autorecord file is corrupted/absent. Thus, there is no replay of the game.

Well now that we only have 3 modders Mecha Lenin is the least of our problems. I also have not heard from anyone I tried to fill the 6th slot with so unless anyone has some quick ideas on where to find 3 modders, we are either going to need to change the game to a PUG (Boshimi won't like that), come up with a different idea for the game, or cancel it entirely.
I'm up for playing a mod, it should help even things out.

Yes he most certainly is a possibility, but I don't think he's even posted in this thread. If he joins and we use a mod that might be an interesting enough game to go ahead and do.
Maybe....though the modders will be at as much a disadvantage if they aren't from the same mod team....
In any case, I'm fine with any mod....
What mods have you played Seleuceia? I know Boshimi plays distant stars a lot, and as none of the DS mod team is actually here it maybe the best time to try it.
I have "played" Distant Stars in that I have enabled the mod, started a game, and analyzed the costs, construction/research times, stats of ships, tech trees, etc for modding purposes of my own...
I however have never played a real game of Distant Stars...nevertheless, I am fine doing that if that's what you guys want to do...to be honest, Distant Stars is going to be just as good/bad as vanilla sins for me so either one will be fine....
If we are going to play a mod I would probably prefer Distant Stars since it's basic structure is similar to vanilla...
There are mods more like Vanilla we could use, but I think that would only make it easier for the pros. I think it would be best to do something sufficiently different so that the typical strategies they've used for so long get thrown out the window.

Well maybe not, I'm having trouble extracting the mod archive, and its likely the pros may have that problem too. It seems it maybe to late to save this game.
Use the latest version of 7z to unarchive it... Nacey used a new format that doesn't play nice with older programs.

Well we need another modder and all the pros to post to saying DS is okay and they have it up and running. So I would guess this will either be delayed a few hours or cancelled.
