For those of you new to Stardock’s games, let me say, welcome! We’re glad you’re here!
For those of you who are veterans, thanks for hanging out with us.
I want to make sure users are fully aware, because it comes up sometimes, that we have intentions/plans for many things and on the other hand we have promises/requirements/obligations.
The former means, we intend to do something but it is not a guarantee. The latter means, yes, it’ll be in there.
Let’s start for the promises for FE:
Now, let’s talk about intentions for FE:
As far as I know, it was in from the start, and I'm certain it was in around a month after release.
As for the human factions. the 6 out of 10...are they going to diversify any? Or are we still going to see 6 factions of white people with the random black hero walking around? Don't get me wrong, I like white people just fine, but kind of thinking that maybe making a few of the factions something other than generic european peoples. Although the Kraxin were almost not white, they were a little on the off-white, maybe like pre 9/11 Persian-Americans, pretty white, but not quite.
This is why I want to be able to tint the model skins when I create a new faction in the editor. I wrote about it in my post on more diverse looking factions.
Me too.
I'm also curious as to whether Python functionality is still an intention. I remember a poll-type post a while back, but haven't heard anything about it since. Anyone heard anything about this?
If the xml remains the same or at least similiar you should be able to choose a color for the skin of factions. In fact you can do that now with WoM (granted you have to edit the Xml to do it).
About free FE. It is not free, I payed for it when I bought WoM. I knew WoM was crap at the time and Brad already promised FE and another expansion for free. So I payed for a game I knew I would not play much or enjoy for a hope to get a game in the future that I will. By buying WoM I basically preordered FE and the next expansion for years in advance. I credited Stardock without knowing if they are going to deliver. At the time these 2 expansion were real expansions, not new games. So you could say I took a gamble and payed expecting even less.
If there was no expansions offered I would have skipped on WoM and not visited these forums until I randomly ran into some FE review and maybe bought that one.
As for asking for different factions, well they don't have to elves, dwarf and rest, but make these humans really different. MoM with regenerating factions, flying faction and so on make the gameplay really unique.
Sure, its for free.
How many products have you bought in your live that didn´t fill your expectations, how many food have you bought only to find out, that itdon´t fit your taste? What did you do? Do you went in the store: "Hey, this is not what i expected. I will kept it anyway, but i´ll take this *any other related product* for satisfaction." How did the shopmen react?
I hope its understandable what i mean.
We intend to have significant faction differentiation. In War of Magic, the Empires all shared the same tech tree and the Kingdoms had their own. Other than that, each faction only had minor differences. Now, all of the factions are humanoids (we don’t have a spider race, for instance) but we intend for each faction to look and play very differently. How successful we are on this will be in the eye of the beholder. But we will be making a best effort here to make them as different as we can as budget allows (i.e. we’re not willing to push the date back so that we can have an insectoid race.
This needs to be a promise, being able to try the vastly different races and use different playstyles is one of the greatest strengths of Master of Magic. The races can all be humanoids, fine with me, but they need unique abilities specific to each race, unique bonus's, and unique army units
If it's that easy there is no reason it shouldn't be thrown in the faction editor as well then.
I agree with this
No argument from me. It really is that easy. If you have a race from WoM that you want a color, let me know and I can send you back some xml with very minor changes and they will be that color. I have no idea why they didn't put it in the editor. I put it in my editor that I created during the WoM beta, and it really was just a line in the xml.
Actually in most western countries there are consumer protection laws that let you return defect items and get a full refund. So this is like that, but instead of full refund we were promised 2 free expansion.
Actually, ALL Stardock products (games and non-games) provide full refunds for users who run into material technical issues with our software. We never want people to feel like they're rolling the dice by purchasing one of our products.
EDIT: WTF?! I didn't write this. My text was the one in quote and was replying to lantros. Mods, wtf are you doing? Are you fucking crazy?!
ähhmm...but it worked, right? Not for everyone in the first place, ok. They repaired it and now you have the product. Right, is isn´t that good. It isn´t what we expected, but its a working product.
And i thought there was the possibility of refund. But maybe i remember wrong.
But thats a discussion without end. Lets stop here. We have different opinions. That ok, ins´t it.
Originally there was a refund offer- which was 75% if just for quality, 100% if you had a technical issue.
Yes, it is free.
Considering that E:WOM is now actually a pretty good game (even though it took awhile) getting the next two games without paying for them should be considered free.
Unless you consider E:WOM totally worthless which certainly isn't the case.
At the time of purchase (time when 2 free expansion were offered) it was totally worthless. And I would not pay for E:WoM currently. I would not even pirate it. It is still a bad and boring game although technical problems were mostly fixed. So, no. It is not free.
Well, people can make up their own mind. I think it's not bad with Heavenfall's After the War mod and Artifact and Expanded Factions sub-mods. But I admit, the game at release and for a long time after was atrocious.
However, a lot of companies would have just taken the money and ran, so even if it not free, it's still a heaps better (and more forward-thinking) deal than most companies would use on the release of a game that was objectively in no condition to be released.
The truth is that it doesn't matter. Your opinion may be different from mine but we are both getting FE for free and it looks like it's going to rock. Everything else is just your opinion, totally irrelevant and unable to change anything. So just enjoy the game.
It really is just a matter of perspective. As always, I see everything as the reward for living in the worker's paradise.
@TorinReborn
If i were SD, i would let you pay for E: FE, just to show you the only difference between free or not.
This!
They've already confirmed that any scripting is definitely off the table for FE.
Nah, that would only cause me to pirate the game (if it will be worth pirating and I am hoping it will; games pirated in big numbers are either overhyped (Spore I am looking at you) or really good ) while telling everyone to avoid buying Stardock games because in addition to making E:WoM they cheat their customers.
And they edit your posts and write in them (look at my 2nd post upwards).
It happend to me. They offered me another meal in replacement for the one i ordered, not because it was bad, but because it just wasnt to my taste.
It made sure that i was a returning customer for years. I left a couple hundred € with them, which i wouldnt have, hadnt they treated me this way.
Just saying its not unheard of.
No, i think my posts are fine. All orthographic mistakes and grammatical errors, where they have to be.
@OsirisDawn
There is always someone, who find a exceptions.
But again...in my view its free. For others not. I´m fine with my view.
Agree to disagree then. I paid $$$ for E:WOM personally. I even got the Collector's edition. I have been playing it lately and enjoying it.
When E:FE comes out, I will not be outlaying any more $$$. Good enough for me.
Pirating games makes you a $%^&# though.
