I brushed up on advent by making guardians work by putting them in there own fleet and turning auto attack off. It was easy and they could be right next to the main fleet auto-casting shield projection while i manually cast the guardians which were idle. It worked wonders and i saw my fleet survival rate increase.
After countless games using this combination i came to love the guardian because it could really never cancel out of shield projection with this technique.
So i was like-why not the domina... Would i be the first to really make them work properly. So i made a third subfleet per main fleet with 4 domina's. They tailed behind the main fleets being located just within the shield bubble with auto-attack off and auto-cast on:
Result: they were just sitting there. They were facing the whole fleet and they didnt cast a single preserverance regen.
As my caps health slowly droped i had no choice but to manually activate perseverance.. so is that it? We have to manually do it? So disappointing that the auto-cast feature is a waste of time even when there facing the whole fleet.
Assumption: Being behind the main fleets i thought they would be facing there targets and pick any ship and repair it with auto-cast.
Conclusion:
I can't micro too much esp with an empty stomach. I'll have to stick to repair platforms ,vertigo and deceptive illusion as bonus to shield projection for defensive purposes.
This is only a guess but it could be timing the autocast the same way the Hoshiko's repair bots and the Dunov's Shield Restore autocast: when nearly all of the hull or shield points restored by the ability will be used, so that the ability isn't wasted.
And since the Domina repairs a total of 1000 hull points... it's probably very rare for the autocast to activate, except on capital ships which are nearly dead, and on starbases and structures.
Even without autocast, the Domina is near worthless in a heavy combat situation if it's attempting to defend a fleet.
I've seen the Domina activate Persererance on a nearly full-health Radiance before, along with countless frigates. Its not that rare for me.
Most of us have just come to accept that there is little to love on the Domina.
It definitely needs a buff. Although it could be made to be better via removing the channeling part of Perseverance, or via removing the face-target requirement, that doesn't really fit in that well with the Advent's general feel. Especially given the research cost of Perseverance, something needs to be done. It might be enough to simply increase the repair rate from 25 hull/sec to 45 hull/sec or so (combined with a reduced ability duration). Although that's quite a lot, I think the research cost justifies it, especially since it'll mostly be used just on capital ships and large structures. Players need to be incentivized to actually build Dominas, and for that Dominas need to be effective in conjunction with other ships to support the Advent fleet.
Nope, Domina needs manual targeting; its autocast is horrible. Still worth the effort to heal capital ships and starbases, but that's about it.
doesnt it have to stay still too? or is that fixed now? Something was changed on them in 1.32, what was it?
Yup; its abilities are both channeling, so it cannot move or attack (or use its other ability, for that matter) while they're active.
I'm not aware of any recent Domina changes. There's nothing in the patch log.
Channeling is actually an advent concentration prayer as they gather all the psitech energy to heal there wounded brother and sister ships. What no one tells everyone back at camp is by the time they finished praying there usually isn't anything left to save.
I think you hit the nail on the head. It's called technology lag.
Vasari have awesome tech, so heals are instant.
TEC are dumbshits, but they rigged their repair platforms to be mobile and somehow got it right.
Advent believe in unicorn farts and having no retinas, so they must focus REALLY hard in order for it to work right.
What I don't get is why people try to get the Domina to be a healer as though that were its intended role.
Because it's next to worthless when used as a disabling cruiser? The 400/80/80 would be better invested in combat frigates of your own if you're only building it for Suppression.
Until the domina is fixed it's best viable use is as a micro'd Tier-6 repair unit.
Really the problem is with synchronized single target abilities. In the case of the Domina both abilities are this way. The problem with synchronized single target abilities is they tend to target the same unit due to the current targetting mechanism. Additionally because the are synchronized with ApplyTargettedBuffToSelf there is no way for then engine to know the intended sub-buff has already been applied to the target (hence multiple Domina's target the same unit wasting AM). Abilities that use ApplyBuffToTarget do not encounter this situation because a pre-check is performed to exclude potential targets that already have the intended buff applied.
That's why I thought it had been changed and I guess my head filled in the 1.32 part due to anticipation
My suggestion would be to make it combo nicely with a capital ship's ability. Doesnt Advent have one that reduces ability cooldowns?
Yup; I've suggested exactly that before. The Guidance ability needs more synergies, and the Domina needs a rework. I've suggested allowing it to channel multiple abilities simultaneously and then removing its requirement to face its target. This would allow it to continue to "grab" different targets while still channeling and keeping existing targets, vastly increasing its power.
That would be interesting with Suppression, but I'm not all that sure about combining that with Perseverance and no-face-target. Quick and effective fleet-wide hull repair is TEC-exclusive right now, which is how it should be IMO.
well, this is the main problem with the Domina: It's designed to be second-class.
It supposed to be a Hoshiko and a Subverter combined, but it can't be better than either one. The best path would be a completely new set of abilities and role for this ship, but working with the intended design... this is how it goes.
On the other hand, although the Domina is by far the worst, doesnt every race have 1 weak Utility cruiser?
I wouldn't call the Cielo or Overseer so much "weak" as they are overshadowed. The Domina, on the other hand, is just plain weak to begin with.
The Domina as a healing unit will never compare to the hoshiko even with the buffs I've proposed. First of all, the hoshikos is a T3 unit that's well-suited for the early-game and has an unlockable ability that helps it scale effectively into the late-game. The Domina is a T5 unit that's ill-suited for the late-game and requires an unlockable ability just to be effective at what it does.
Not Vasari.
The overseer is no subverter. Still a great ship, but not in the same class as its big brother...
The Overseer, "overshadowed"? It's the key ship in the common offensive starbase-based attack.
They both have their uses and are extremely extremely useful if handled properly IMO.
The only real "problem" with the Overseer is all of its abilities are active, much like the Kol, so you would think Mobile Phase Detection and/or Jump Degradation should be passive.
Its Reactive Nanite Armor is powerful enough IMO and the other abilities are expensive and not very useful. Using it simply as a healer makes the most sense, I think. Gameplay-wise, it's fine, but game-design-wise, those extra abilities are in the same region as the Cielo and the Subjugator and most of the nonessential research. (interesting but almost never worth getting in a game against decent opponents)
Mobile Phase Detection on the Overseer is actually passive, but the most useful abilities on the Overseer are active anyway.
Ah, that's right, I get confused on these things, when I can't play the game to see what's going on, and end up having to rely on the wiki.
So... let's say that there was no Domina and we were designing it. What does advent need in it's other support cruiser?
