Hi,
Installed WindowBlinds 7.3 final and it's doing that no skinning thing again when I reboot. It's random, sometimes it runs at startup sometimes it does not. I have auto restart disabled like tech support said but it's still happening. The last beta was working flawlessly. I may go back to it.
Also since I installed 7.3 it broke both my Cursor Control Panel and my IconPackager browser. They both lock up minutes after starting them. They work fine with WB removed.
Anyone else having issues?
Instead of restarting each time try clicking on Apply Skin a second time. That happens from time to time even before the update.
Sorry about that kku...I went and checked my blind, and, indeed, it was my fault...I forgot to clear out the code in the part that Neal referenced. I have made the changes, and am going to upload the blind again...hopefully, this will resolve your issue.
Just installed your update and all looks good!
Thanks for posting back...I'm glad the issue is resolved
It's working fine on the husband's Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit machine and since he writes, Office 2010 (Or Word, rather) hasn't given him any headaches.
no issues here running win 7 64, i have one issues with stardock when they say purchase they mean rent
Rent?
When you purchase any apps you can keep on using it for as long as you like. If you went with an ObjectDesktop subscription then you cannot update to things released after your subscription expired, but as long as you kept the installer from the builds you have you can reinstall it if you need to.
Well said.
The EULA uses that term. I think that's what Jinks was referring to.
All fixed.
All through Impulse.

That's wrong Neil because if apps have been installed with Impulse (and most of them should have been), even if OD subscrition is renewed, Impulse is no more taking it and though no .impulse archives can be reinstalled
I's really a MAJOR problem that should be resolved very quickly by Stardock team ...
After reading through this, I unsinstalled Impulse finally.
My understanding is Impulse should still reinstall existing .Impulse archive files even if your OD sub is expired.
If you mean you cannot download future things from Impulse after the renewal that is intentional and will not change. The databases split and so the Impulse database has no idea you renewed.
@ Neil Banfield
I got all working for me now and I just want to say this, You rock !! All the software you´ve been putting out really kicks ass !! Tiles was a BIG surprise and the new parts skinned in Internet explorer...Super !
On my behalf: All is good.
stayhard
Nope and that's the MAJOR problem !!! As soon as the 2011 account is expired (even if OD is renewed for 2012 - in my case till september 2012) Impulse don't let you do ANYTHING, neither update any app and neither reinstall existing .impulse archieve files
If your sub is still active, I'd suggest using Impulse's 'Download and Archive' function for each of your apps, saving the archives in a specific folder for potential future restoration. Save a copy of the Impulse installer with them.
If I understand what I've read over the past year correctly, the 'Download and Archive' functionality creates an archive which is OS-independent and should be restorable using Impulse on XP, Vista or Win7, even after your sub expires. Once Impulse is installed on a new (or reformatted) rig & your license info entered, in theory restoring via Impulse should work.
Using the 'Archive' functionality, on the other hand, creates an archive which can only be restored on the OS on which it was created... and which might not work when you actually go to use it, even before you sub expires (this part's based on my personal experience, not official Stardock guidance).
If my understanding is incorrect, I'm sure one of SD's staff will clarify.
Your understanding id effectively incorrect: my OD subscription is still active (till september 2012 - renewed august 31 2011 because it was ending september /09/2011) but not for Impulse for which it's telling me it's over and that I have to renew it and though i just can't do anything with Impulse ...
You'll see what will happen with your's when your 2011 subscription period will be ending ...
As soon as you renew your subscription you will then need to access your products using - https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products
This has been explained over and over again and again here - https://forums.wincustomize.com/409931/page/1/#replies
"Anyway, at the moment we are in a transition period. Specifically, we are transitioning away from Impulse being your main download and update method. Going forward, you can access all of your registrations and download links for Stardock software by logging in here:
https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products
This will give you a list of everything that is on your account, along with your serial numbers and installer download links. That's right, download links directly to the latest stable version of the software."
If you have any issues with restoring your purchased products then email support@stardock.com and start a trouble ticket.
Posting numerous times in the forums saying that this person or that person doesn't know what they are talking about will not help get your issue(s) resolved.
I downloaded the WIndowblinds update from the STardock Store last night and installed it. I rebooted my machine. Ver sadly, for the first time ever, I am having issues.
I go a black screen on reboot with this pop-up....
WerFault.exe
The instruction at 0x6602b400 reference memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.
When I close it I get pop-ups for half a dozen programs all with the same message. I tried a system restore but none of the dates available will work. It tells me it cannot locate C://Windows.
I don't know if this is from the update or not, but my computer is pretty much fried.
The Desktop Window Manager stops working. I tired to download/use several of the WIndows trouble shooters but there is always an error and it can't run.
Running Windows 7
I get messages like this when I open stuff...
The thread attempted to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate accessCritical Error:CCleaner v3.11.1550MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit SP1AMD Athlon 7550 Dual-Core Processor3.0GB RAMATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series
UNtil I know what the cause is I don't know that I will be downloading anything from Stardock, once I figure out the issue or have to do a complete reinstall of WIndows. I'm not saying the product is bad, but I never had these issues when updating from Impulse or the previous source for updates. You guys need to make it clear (unless I missed it) exactly where we are to get the updates from. I see folks using the store and Impulse. I don't know (if it is the new WB version) if I would have been better off using Impulse or not. I know it's all kind of up in the air and in transition. If the WB update is what caused these issues, you should hold off on any more updates until you have a replacement for Impulse that's been tested and all.
What skin are you using?
There are a few skins with bugs which are causing a problem with the WB update.
BTW a boot into safe mode would disable WB and you could then switch to windows classic/aero.
Likewise holding down CTRL when logging in will stop WB.

Can't do updates through Impulse and I just renewed my sub in the past month or 6 weeks
Not sure. I can't get WB to open. It's recolored. You might be able to tell from the SS above.
Here's another SS.
Noah... Give me a call. Did you do a Windows Update before this happened?
When did you renew your ODNT subscription (look in the Store).
The Store download is the problematic one... Not the one in Impulse. So, if your ODNT sub is OK and was in effect before all the store/Impulse dl methods started, do this:
1. Open and update Impulse. Un-tick the "pre release" version thing in Preferences Tab.
2. Close and reopen Impulse.
3. Find Windowblinds in the "My Software" tab. Left click once on it... should highlight it. Then, press "Shift + Right Click" and choose "Verify Installation" and let that run.
4. Do the update it tells you to do.
5. Reboot.
That's what fixed it for me.
trying your suggestion
shit
Impulse updated and now I am getting hit with dozen of popups
I have to close them all to type anything
Finally got impulse open again.
Did what you said and it sys WB NOT installed correctly and now shows update available.
Impulse will not let me update. Says my registration is not valid and asks me to edit registration info?
Tried to do thisd using the activation number from the store when I log in and it says 'The serial number you have entered is not recognized by Impulse. Only serial numbers provided by Stardock will be accepted.
Tried to activate Object Desktop on Impulse an it says the account is expired. I renewed it on July 10, 2011. ???
Impulse still shjowing my account as expired in Fbruary 2011.
Stardock Store says I am current. I can even pull up the transaction and Order# from July 10, 2011. No matter where I enter the serial number or what product, Impulse says it is expired.
I don't have a 'My Software' tab. Evrything is listed under a 'My Desktop' tab.
I'm getting My List out, you guys.
****Funny. It seems Impulse still has all my game shit right. ALL the numbers are still good/valid.
I think the next time Brad sells something off he should have some kind of customer service pact that they maintain the same level of service and customer satisfaction that helped make the product what it was.

I should have been a tad more specific. My suggestions would apply only if your sub remains active and your most recent renewal occurred prior to the sale of Impluse to Gamestop. Impulse will continue to work for updating/installing desktop apps only until the first post-sale renewal or the sub active at the time of the sale subsequently expires, whichever comes first.
Your sub is active, true, but you renewed after the sale and Impulse is no longer of any use to you for managing SD desktop apps (except to the extent you may have successfully archived apps with it prior to your 31Aug11 renewal that are restorable with Impulse).
Your only option going forward is using the individual store downloads. Until the replacement for Impulse, which is under development, is released.
Hope that makes some sense now.
