On some other thread, people talked about the fact that King's bounty had very interesting tactical battles. So I thought that I could give it a try. So Instead of trying to find an illegal copy, I said that I'll at least start by trying the legit demo of "the Legend" and "armored princess" to see if I really like the game.
So I installed "The legend" demo, it tells me that I have a trial period of 999 days and that it will expire in june 14th 2014. That's fine with me, my trial will probably end before that. Then it tells me that the trial period is about to end and I should activate soon else I won't be able to play anymore. WOW, I did not know we were already in 2014, time passes faster than I think. Then I click OK ... and the program shutdown. I start it again, same message then shut down. WTF!
So I decided to install Armored princess after ward, I thought that more recent version might have a better software control system. Installed everything, start the program nothing happens. Open the process manager, start the program, the program stay in memory for a a few seconds then it shutdowns. WTF!
I don't know what's the problem, but it's the kind of things that made me stop playing games on PC. Like my friend once said, at least on console video games, you put the game in the console, push power and it works. Second, it's not very convincing incite people to buy the game legally when trying to run a DEMO is actually more complicated that installing an illegal copy.
So I don't know if I am missing something, is there other people that has experienced the same problems? I'll eventually try to install it on another computer in case it's a machine problem.
Didn't know The Legend had a time limited demo, the one I played had me stuck on the first map with the warrior class. This is the first time I've heard about the game acting like this. Having played both of them on three systems, I've never run into anything similar.
Make sure you don't have anything running in the background that may require the video card, like videos, other 3D apps, or some such other, or that you don't have on of those paranoid anti-viruses that thinks everything is trying to kill your PC. If you're running in more recent OS's, try fiddling with the compatibility settings. It's probably not a question of system requirements, since I ran both an a PC that was considerably below the minimum. But you can tweak the ini file of the system settings, just in case.
You could wait and try the full version of The Legend, see if it works, since it's going to be free soon on a digital distribution service who's name I'm not at liberty to say.
OH Really! Then I might just do that instead. Is it anytime soon, like in a month or two.
Else I was thinking that I might have downloaded the wrong demo, OR he does not like the fact that I have a netbook but does not give any error messages about it. This is why I wanted to try it on a different computer.
I can't give you a time frame, but I'm hoping it'll be by the end of the year. If you don't want to wait, check your PM.
This makes me sad as you are missing out on a GREAT game. I have had very few problems with Kings Bounty and I have played all versions a lot.
By the way. There will be a new Kings Bounty early 2012 (based on the same engine, not Kings Bounty 2). Its called Warriors of the North. I will buy this for sure.
I have been noticing alot of typos in thread titles of late. I apologize if this is uncouth buy they really make me cringe since I see them everyday. It should be work* as the action is negated. I wish I was born to a more logical language, but we are stuck with this one.
I speak natively french and it's even less logical, so be very happy that you are stuck with english. From what I remember, the only verb conjugation in english is to add an S to 3rd person singular. We have different termination for all 6 persons, for each of the dozen verb tense multiplied by almost 100 unique verb exception. So you are better to get stuck with English.
I tried Armored Princess on my girl friend's computer and it works. It's probably a graphic resolution problem, but they never sent an error message because of a bad resolution because they assumed that everybody could so 1024x768, but not on net books. So I'll have to hook it in my TV.
I rapidly tried the game this morning, first it lagged incredibly, I have to drop down everything. What was ridiculous is that in battles, there are useless spectator to the battle that consume processing power, they should add an option to remove them.
The second problem, there is no tutorial at all. I had no clue how to play. It took a while to figure out that there were multiple copies of each units which each had HP of it's own.
Comments so far, I like the tight battle ground, it gives many tactical options like for example the totem that give added defenses in a certain area. My only complaint so far is that there is huge gap between unit damage. Some unit have attacks that does between 20-30 damage while another units special ability or spell does between 200-300 damage in a radius. So making a simple attack seems like a wasted action so you manage to do something else.
Armored Princess was a stand alone expansion of The Legend, so they assumed you played the first one, which started with a fairly detailed tutorial. You'll get used to how the units work with time. Special abilities are important, but they can't be used every time. Some have to recharge, while others can only be used once per battle. Also, you will need to strike a balance between the units, as the low level ones can get steamrolled by high level creatures. A T-Rex will eat your archers.
Attack damage will scale with the number of units you have, but not all abilities will do the same, so it evens out... well, it does until you have an army full of dragons and just burn everyone to death.
And remember, you can change the resolution before entering the game by changing a line in the .ini file. It's either in the game's folder, or in My Documents, where the game keeps it's saves.
Ah French, I thought as much. I am actually a linguist. I have found french to have one of the greatest differences between writing and speaking. And yes, I blame your ancestors for influencing mine with their illogical grammar. We should all speak Spanish. You seem to have a good grasp of the language though, I always look forward to your postings on gameplay.

That sounds like big news! GoG's free games are far less than the cream of the crop. TF2 on Steam seems relatively the closest. I'm not entirely sure if Impulse has any free games - maybe Gamestop will put some up Especially for a game that's never been on the top of my list to try but has often times been close contender, I can't wait.

Right now I'm playing the full version of KB: The Legend and it's playing tricks on my mind. Never mind that I first started King's Bounty on Armored Princess and now I'm going back and playing the first one. Now The Legend has me constantly thinking about what it's like to have sex with a frog. You know, you kiss the frog, she turns into a beautiful princess...but she's still a frog. This is very disturbing. Now my frog wife and I have 2 kids and a third on her way, I'm having these thoughts race my mind, I'm beginning to get PTSD...and the "S" doesn't stand for "stress".
Did you find the wife that turns into a zombie? That's just as creepy.
