Yesterday, Israel made available (digitally) the Dead Sea Scrolls to all interested in viewing them. They come with an magnify, outline and translate to English option.
So… I thought, what better way to wish my friends here (and to everyone, everywhere) a “Happy New Year” than with one of my favorite quotes from Isaiah.
I recently went to Photoshop school (Lesa Snider, G-d Bless you for the wonderful teacher you are!) with Hankers (and a special blessing to you, my friend).
My warped and devious mind decided to put these events together and (as is my way, yearly) to wish all
A Wonderful, Healthy, Peaceful, Productive and Creative New Year
So here it is, with great love to you all…

a Happy and Creative year to you doc.... lovely verse..
and thanks very much for the info on the Dead Sea Scrolls... appreciate it...
Shana Tova!
May it be true in our lifetime
P.S: the verse sounds quite unnatural in English as it's much better in Biblical Hebrew, but its meaning is just as strong.
That will be a happy day.
@גורמות1
אתה צודק.... אך אין מה לעשות. כך תרגמו
Looks like Snoopy's typewriter is a bit wonky....
Translation (sorry, rude of me to forget...):
@Gormoth1:
You're right...but there's nothing to do, that's the translation.
A fellow Hebrew speaker, NICE!
Shana Tova Doc.
Is that appropriate? Not being Jewish I had to ask.
What being appropriate?
Is Shana Tova a greeting? A wish? What? Call me ignorant but if I don't ask I'll never know.
Oh! It's a greeting. It literally means: 'A good year' in Hebrew:
Shana = Year
Tova = Good (female tense, there's a difference between male and female in Hebrew).
When said as a greeting to someone, its meaning turns to: '(may you have a) happy new year'.
Explained perfectly. Expecting guests so was away from my 'puter. Lots to do and errands to run.
Thanks, Uvah... you did just fine!
Thanks for sharing this. Being able to look verse by verse with the translations is great.
Last time I checked there's a difference between male and female in more things than just Hebrew.... ....
LOL! You know, I've noticed that as well, myself
Gormoth1 - a pic of me (way) back in the day...
Well then, in that case, Shana Tova to everyone!
Fall here, spring in OZ, now New Years everywhere?
My brain hurts.
DrJBHL, wow, an airforce officer? Perhaps a fighter pilot? Cool!
Were you always from the US, or did you live in Israel and later moved?
WOW!!! Doc you are a very handsome man.
and have a sweet new year, doc. When i dip the apple slices in the honey, I will think of you... and all our friends here at SD.
edit; no wise cracks about honey... dipping apples in honey is a tradition at the New Year. (There are actually four 'new years' each calendar new year. One is the new year for trees - basically, don't harvest from trees until they are a certain number of years old.) Anyway, sometimes honey IS honey. So no wise cracks. (He is good looking, isn't he?)
Oh, I didn't realize today is 'teach a non-Jewish about Jewish stuff' day
Religious diversity should be taught every day. There would be less hate in the world, imho.
The thing is, when we get to the end of the day, we are not all that different, the road we travel to get there is what makes us who we are.
Happy New Year.
No, Navy. Born here, after college went there and 13 years later returned.
Long ago. Loooooong ago. lol.
well said...
