If you own Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity and Sins: Diplomacy and haven’t gotten your pre-order in for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, you have until the end of September to lock in your discount. By pre-ordering now you save $10, but that special will end at the end of the month, so pre-order now!
https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/store#rebellion
Im likely to pre-order in a couple of months i.e. when im more financially stable i.e. recently married lolBut probably after I have seen some more than what I have so far. If that means I have to spend and extra $10 then so be it. Its actually better value to wait and see from my perspective, than to pre-order with little info.I am however very happy from what I have seen from Stardock *ahem* never tried elemental or indeed know anything more about it other than its name and so haven't placed that black mark against them. But I have been very happy with their continued support of Sins, and I am extremely likely to buy Rebellion. But not now.
Keep in mind that there is heavy overhaul of game-play mechanics, coding, etc, plus a whole more that hasn't been announced. Based on what is likely to be announced in the future prior to it's release, I believe it WILL be a good bargain for $40. Just keep all of that in perspective. I will buy the game.
I'll probably end up buying Rebellion, but I'm not pre-ordering now when very few hard facts are known about it.
lol Already pre-ordered. I pre-ordered the other 2 expansions before they came out so I'm sticking to my trend and also my gut instinct about this.
Why announce you won't buy it and you feel there is a lack of content? Leave the forums then if you aren't interested
I for one preordered on March 3rd when all we knew was pretty much the title
Because people have the right to voice dissent as well as approval. Some of those people are people who have been with the game and involved in the community for a very long time. That is a telling thing.
There are other games launching later this year, or early next year, that are in the same genre as Rebellion that seem to feature a great deal more content than Rebellion whilst remaining in it's price range ($40ish). Given how little concrete information has been released about Rebellion, and the fact that they are riding on good faith, the pre-order price bonus being removed so soon is a bit eyebrow raising.
By providing dissent vocally, customers are not saying they will not purchase Rebellion, but simply informing SD/IC that they need/want more information before they are willing to buy the game whilst letting them know also that they want more content and are potentially willing to pay accordingly.
It's basic feedback, Thrawn. Dialogues are helpful.
Seemed a whole lot more of ranting and hating than helpful feedback. A lack of sales in general would prove that this "price hike" didn't work. People have the right to say what they wish but I think if you're only going to be purely negative get your ass back to /v/, that stuff doesn't belong on the developer's forum, especially when they do actually read it. It's insulting and childish and won't actually help transform the game into a better experience.
The preorder bonus has been around for 6 months now. Clearly the game is taking longer than expected, Ironclad games was 9 people last I checked and perhaps not all of them are working on Rebellion. Why is it that with these larger companies people are fine with saying "have faith" when they know little about the game? Take Skyrim for instance. You have a ton of things that you need to take their word for, you have some screenshots, and you have ONE highly scripted video of gameplay (it's been played through multiple times yes). I think that's very little information, especially when the game has 50 days till release. Yet people are preordering that in droves. Don't tell me if Valve released a teaser for Half-Life 3 that was literally nothing but a video with the text "Half-Life 3" and a preorder went up with it that you wouldn't preorder it on the spot. Ironclad hasn't lied to us before, big companies do all the time (intentionally or not). Ironclad has stated all the features that are going to be in the game, take it or leave it. But sitting and complaining won't do much. And it isn't really "I haven't seen enough" so much as "it doesn't have what I want." Hello Kitty Island adventure doesn't have what I want but you don't see me going to the developer's forum and complaining (if they have one).
I've been with Ironclad since before the betas for the original game and I'll stick with them, they stick with us and they haven't let me down yet. Last year at my college I worked at our IT helpdesk and a student was having issues connecting to ICO, so Ironclad emailed our helpdesk in an attempt to help them connect (and in the end the issue was fixed).
Back to /v/ with ye
Ironclad isn't doing Rebellion. They didn't do Diplomacy either.
And neither company has the kind of track record of Valve's games. Ironclad has one game and one 'micro-expansion'. They've been up to bat once and hit a home run, but that doesn't mean their career is going to be spectacular. And Stardock's last big release was E:WoM. A game which lost people their jobs and which they had to promise a lot of free stuff to make up for.
If people don't feel they've provided evidence of value, better to get that out of the way early on when it can actually be addressed.
By all means, if you hate stardock so much, stop coming to their forums! Amazing idea isn't it! You aren't helping in any way. Although I did not realize that IC was not doing Rebellion. Valve's track record isn't that great, plus their community fights them every step of the way any time they do anything, and usually they end up shutting up a week after whatever they were complaining about is implemented / gets released. So basically here's the 3 possible things you can do: Keep being a baby, leave the forums, stop being a baby on the forums (stay here for the mods or what have you) leaving the people who are working on this alone, and either end up buying it or don't! But yes I love the UGH MAN STARDOCK'S LAST GAME WAS SO HORRIBLE I'M GOING TO STAY ON THEIR FORUMS AND COMPLAIN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE idea. Absolutely brilliant.
I like Sins. I've easily put more hours into it than any other game out there, and I play games a lot. I want Rebellion to be good.
I just don't see evidence that it's going to be good, and I've no reason to 'have faith' in them.
For the record, while Stardock Entertainment is doing the heavy lifting in terms of programming time and art for Rebellion, we are working very closely with Ironclad Games on the project. The design, lore, look of the new content, etc. all derives from Ironclad. It is a collaboration between both companies and have regular back & forth on everything.
Neat. Is Ironclad working on another project at the same time ... or do they simply not have enough man power?
Ok fine I take back the "go back to /v/" comment. Go back to SPUF. You will fit right in. Worry all you want, complaining isn't going to do anything
Yes, we are working on another project at the same time. Rebellion is providing a lot more than previous expansions - both companies need to work together to maintain a AAA product. I feel confident we've proven ourselves in terms of the quality of our games and our continuous support. You can expect the same for Rebellion and all future projects.
I'm not going to hold my feedback just because they might not like it. I'd much rather do what I can to be sure that Rebellion is as good as it can be. Telling them it looks great or just keeping silent when I just don't think it's going that direction isn't going to help. But, well, this is a matter of opinion and all that.
As for IC, they said in an interview somewhere a while ago that they're working on something not Sins related.
Edit: Guess they agreed with you Thrawn, as both SD and IC have basically told me to GTFO. So goodbye SD and IC.
Where did I say Sins was a bad game or this expansion would be bad? I thought I was pretty clear that right now we have nowhere near enough information to make an informed, rational decision about whether or not Rebellion is worth the money. Right now, the information points to it being about $20 worth of new content based on SoaSE's own pricing history. Putting $30 down so you only pay a 50% markup on the revealed content to avoiding paying a 100% markup later is ridiculous. The ONLY reason to put money down now is purely on faith that Stardock can deliver a quality product on release day and are intentionally withholding information about the scope of new content, and their recent release history does not support that assertion. Elemental was a disaster and Diplomacy didn't finally shape up to its goals until the recent patch.
I'd preorder the game now if they'd just TALK about the thing, but I'm not throwing my money away blindly when the past releases from Starock and Ironclad both haven't met expectations. Unless the content of this expansion somehow doubles from what's been announced, it definitely won't be worth it at the $40 price point. If (again, IF) there's more than big ship, little ship, diplomacy2 then I can see it being worth $30, but the chance to do so is going to close in just over a week. By the time the price aligns with what I have every expectation the content will be, I'll have forgotten all about it.
Elemental turned out so badly after getting so much hype that Stardock has taken to saying as little as possible. They've forgotten that a game needs SOME marketing so people know what the heck they're spending their cash on.
Fantastic! I'm still playing Sins with Mods and look forward to a 64bit friendly, DirectX 11 and spectacular graphics in what is to come!!
Ya know, the blue skinned fanboi up there is being abrasive and offensive. That a dev and a publishing rep have both come on and given approval to his comments by virtue of ignoring them is a sour step in customer relations that is affecting more than just those who are vocal here. It's also affecting those who are just readers, too. Potentially quite a few readers, at that, since this thread has a link on the home page.
I won't lie, my opinions have been lowered, and I certainly won't be preordering Rebellion at this point, and ordering it at all is now a question instead of a certainty. And yeah, it's mostly due to this thread.
People are free to discuss the thread as they see fit, as long as it confines within the rules and such. Just because we don't respond or address a specific thread doesn't mean we support the comment one way or another.
The point of this thread was to notify people that the promotion is ending soon. Of course we want everyone to be excited about the game and pre-order, but ultimately it's your prerogative if you decide to purchase now or later.
Sorry to see you leave the entire community, but good to see you leave the thread (no offense). Again I don't know how you view what you said as "feedback." It was quite literally just unhelpful and mean. I would honestly think you'd be the type of person to go on SPUF and still complain about L4D2 coming out too soon
Good to know that loyal customers turn you off from a product? I haven't said that not preordering due to a lack of information is bad thing, but why be so vocal and, yes, bitchy about it? How about just voting with your wallet and not buying it? Again feedback is good whining isn't. Oh and look the developers haven't ignored me (or you guys!). What's your argument here because I'm really confused.
Also either I'm doing something wrong or the forums are a little off today as this in a quote box but not in quote tags
Well, asking for money before releasing any concrete work is not a clever move to me, especially during crisis times.
How do you expect to believe that the game will be delivered soon ? How do you then expect them to give some money away with no return on investment for now ?
I wouldn't expect that much. That is obvisouly a senseless move. There are limits to people's trust. I believe you are reaching one.
Hope it will be realeased before the end of the world though. 2012 is approaching quickly !
Nobody is charged until the beta is released, so you're not being asked to pay for anything up-front without getting something tangible.
Nobody is charged but everybody knows that at the end of the day, they WILL be charged, no matter what comes out.
The previous way to deal with customers was way better. Why this sudden change ? It is a shame because it kinda breaks the trust between devs and customers. I have been playing Sins since day 1, always paid for it as soon as it was possible, but this time it looks too early to me.
Just saying, I'm not trying to be a smart ass or to be bitching for nothing, I am just letting you know how I feel about it.
I'm not really sure what you are talking about?
Again, this was just to notify people that the discount was ending. If you want to wait until release, hey no problem.
So the $10 discount ends Sept 31?
