So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself. I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it. This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs). Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.
So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.
I'll get us started. I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit. Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something? Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out? It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway). You get IP (favor points) for every game you play. You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc. It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.
As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names). I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters. It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times). There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell). I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so). Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.
Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand. Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing. Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.
Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve. I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games). The strats often sound idiotic to me. But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done. My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time. Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend. I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point. We should organize some LoL games and some DG games. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.
what's his name? i'm always looking for people to play with. playing with pugs is awful at lvl 30:(
Zen I am on your friend list
yeah... shiro has like 30 names... good luck remembering all of them... think i know 3.
Had many fun games tonight! Last game was me/pete/maccilia/zen/maxsteele.
Was good to finally hook back up with max. Been a long time. We almost got to play with thunder but he faded off the planet.
I unlocked amumu and got to try him him out over 4-5 games or so. So far I like. I need to spend a little time so I can just jungle outright with him. I've been laning for a little bit and then jungling aggressively after level 5 or so. I think I figured out when I should be using his ult for the most part as well, but I still have a lot to learn. Anyway, nice to play a new character that I do reasonably well with anyway.
Thanks for the games, everyone.
You seemed to be loving Mundo yesterday ^.^ he remind you of a certain someone?
Well got my first Penta earlier. Morde es #1 huehuehue.
i cant play anymore T.T
Uh huh... let me break it down for yah.
5 minutes to find a name some other shmuck hasn't taken.
20 minutes to wait for the game to download just to realize its bugged out and ain't downloading.
1 hour to actually download.
5 minutes to setup.
3-5 hours to patch up to date. Not sure on this last one, I kinda drifted in and out of consciousness.
All the while I was listening to Pete, Max, and Macc have the most fun ever while researching builds and strategy guides of my teleporting death ninja hero I want to play.
Oh, and Thunder-anything was taken (even Thunderthighs), so I'm "LavaShark" now if anyone wants to add me.
added ya thunder.
Yeah, 1st time setup with all the patching takes a bit.
Yeah I hate morde too lmao. Just felt like playing him for some reason.
someone even had "doggu" - wtf?
heh... strange world, eh? I grabbed the pacov name way back at the start... when I hated lol.
I'm pretty sure I suck at jungling. Oh well.
Ok - so question for you more experienced folks: who are the best characters? I've been working a bit on amumu, but zen mentioned that he's a crap character in ranked games. Is that the case? I'd prefer to work on characters that are solid in ranked matches as I think I'm going to get competitive in this game. Thanks!
all dg oldtimers. masc is rawrr. Good times!
moved to pc gaming thread - don't really want to detract from dg.
tier 1 out of my top: brand oreana anivia annie for ap
for tank: singed alistar jarvan chogath
for ad carry: corki ashe caitlyn
Hope not to take this off topic, and I know I'm addressing a post from a while back (but I did read all the posts following), but this is an issue I had too, except I found it interesting that I had the opposite view.
I totally understand your view, that fighting a losing battle is a waste of time and having someone choosing not to surrender when it's an obvious loss can be annoying, I agree. My gripe though, is when people surrender when there is still a chance - as long as they change their strategy.
I'm not an experienced player at all, and perhaps my views are wrong, but I've had experiences where people quit after losing several team battles and the enemy is way ahead in items/gold and levels. Woah, you might think, if they're way ahead in items and exp, then quite obviously they have the advantage and our chances of winning are low. I agree with your judgment, and the surrender happens at this point anyway.
However, after the first or second team battle loss, I find it a fairly poor idea for us to rush their team again, right after an ace. Yet that keeps happening. Quite obviously if we lost before when we were closer in levels and power, we might win, but we're just giving them a greater advantage every time we die, and yet we still rush into them.
After several times of running into the anvil, we surrender. My way of thinking is this: if you're going to surrender, just take another route and rush their nexus/base thing. Why? Because if you surrender, it's a loss. If you take another route and their team steamrolls the towers and then the nexus, then it's a loss.
But if you, by rushing their base, cause one or two to warp back in confusion and defend their base, perhaps we have a chance of destroying half their team while they decide whether to push or fall back. Even if they push, if we push fast enough, we may even destroy the nexus before they do. According to their surrender philosophy, it's a loss either way. Why not try one last push for a slim chance of victory instead of the tried-and-failed method of rushing their fed team?
As I said before, I'm not an experienced player, and have my fair share of losses, and would say that I may have played poorly enough to contribute a lot to the falling of my team. Since I have not managed to get any team to try this tactic, I'm wondering if the more experienced players could lend a word in letting me know if, in a surrender situation, it's a good idea?
Oh I completely agree here, too. There are only a few things I find more annoying when the score is like 18 to 17 kills at the 20 minute mark and some shite calls for a surrender. I'm more talking about the scenario where someone on my team has 10 deaths and 0 kills at the 20 min mark and the score is like 30 to 1 kills... That's the type of scenario where I'd much rather throw in the towel than hope my feeding pal learns to stop dying.
I'd just personally rather not wait around for and hope for a miracle. I'd play it, but I'd much rather just get into a new game where things are a bit more reasonable.
I also agree that if you are getting destroyed, perhaps changing tactics, like you suggested is appropriate. You'd think folks would consider that.
Thanks for the list of characters, zen.
What websites do you folks use to research strategies, replays? I've been going to www.mobafire.com. Their ads are extremely annoying to me though (flash popups at the bottom). Anyone know how to block that crap in firefox?
I think there is a firefox add on called adblock. I dunno though as I don't use FF. I think Solomid have some guides on their website, but I don't use websites for strategy etc. The closet thing I use are livestreams.
I like Morecowbell.com the most. It is mostly lower elo players though. Solomid and CLGaming are for higher elo players. I don't know their site names though.
