So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself. I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it. This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs). Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.
So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.
I'll get us started. I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit. Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something? Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out? It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway). You get IP (favor points) for every game you play. You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc. It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.
As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names). I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters. It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times). There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell). I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so). Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.
Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand. Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing. Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.
Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve. I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games). The strats often sound idiotic to me. But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done. My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time. Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend. I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point. We should organize some LoL games and some DG games. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.
I enjoy support and tanking in general, although it is thankless, unless you make a really obvious good save. I often sacrifice myself for the greater good and people don't realize there could have been 2 or more deaths if I didn't. I also play Taric and Mao alot. Ashe and Lux are up there as well and Amumu if we are desperate for a jungle.
I've had quite a bit of success bot with Janna and Graves. Knockup, dash, buckshot and a few AAs and that is quite a bit of dmg. Shield and Graves' passive means he won't take much dmg. I imagine Kog would be really good too. Most ranged AD work well. Not sure if we know anyone who plays those.
That one game we dominated a few days ago, Xin and I destroyed bot. You get double knock up for fun times. Jax could be devastating as well. I really need to be on the same page with how aggressive we play though, especially with melees since it is easy to get zoned. I'm basically always trying to set up a good tornado for some harass early game. It's just a waste of mana if the other bot isn't coordinating their harass with me. I find getting first blood bot is so helpful for Janna with getting map control going and the faster I can get the philo stone, the better.
The more people we can get playing together, the better. We can get a feel for each other's playstyles, set up great lane combos and communicate better for GREAT VICTORY!
Yeah - janna and graves sounds like a decent enough combo. I probably should have gone vayne the game you and I were bot (me using gp). Could do a ton of dmg with you knocking folks up.
Just a taste of my solo PUG luck as of late....
Guess who was mid? Against Kat? This guy. Why? b/c no one else would. We see what that got us.
Bottom is (basically) always a support plus a ranged ad carry if you are actually trying to optimize lane combos. What ranged carry works best depends more on who the player is best with more than who pairs best with Janna. For laning purposes, the support+ranged ad carry combos are basically interchangeable with a few exceptions (e.g. taric+cait is a nicer combo due to the taric stun+cait trap on stunned target stunlock move).

Do I have a poor understanding of this game, or was Skarner the absolute worst champ to have in mid that game? I know he's been buffed and has some sustain... but man, that just seems brutal.
Sorry you had to do that. Now I don't feel so bad about the game our Shen sent me solo top with Taric so he could duo bottom with Graves.
"Okay... I'll just take all my aura's and 2 person heal spell and armor debuff that synergizes perfectly with Graves... and go top alone when theres a taunter with sustain and a ranged last hitting mechanism that could go instead... love random teammates."
sleepy - so just a few quick comments. Been playing some skyrim - should have played more today, but instead wasted alot of time in LOL. Played like 8-10 games throughout the day. Lost all but 3 or so of them. Was solo queuing most of the day. Match making is f'd up. One game, my team had 3 guys with less than 200 games, 1 with 300 or so, and me with 250ish. The other team didn't have a guy with less than 1k games. Every other game had some troll effect - had a garen that declare himself a tank, but only picked up ad items (so that my grag had about 600 more hp than him as an ap carry), and so on. Finally got to play with buds late. Eventually got some ggs. Mith tore it up as talon in our last game. He had like 20+ kills for the team. He super carried. Anyway, glad to end on a win... wish I'd have spent more time playing skyrim instead of losing to troll town most of the day, though.
Yall seen season 2 changes?
Some interesting changes for the next patch, yeah. The thing that caught my eye was new mastery trees.
sooo... you don't need 50 points in utility to get the flash cd bonus methinks.
Here is the new mastery trees.
http://na.leagueoflegends.com/masteries-season-two
I've lost all motivation to play until this patch goes through.
My hunch is that it will be changing the meta more than a lot of people realize.
oo - thx for the link to the mastery trees!
Side note... pugs aren't so bad... better than a team with 4 people you know, apparently.
Was playing grag mid. Doing a very good job of it, btw. Then, I'm forced to try to hold 2 lanes by myself because my team decided they had to group up as 4 and feed bot. It was a real hoot and time well spent. They were so obsessed with trying to feed the other team that they refused to cover mid when i was forced to cover top... and then hold 2 lanes... and then...
getting closer and closer to feeling like darkliath. I mean seriously, I understand if its a goof off game, but a semi serious one where you completely ignore your teammates requests for help (because you selfishly forced them to hold 2 lanes alone), then I personally think you are shite.
Got some fun ones in with doggu and then decided to play ranked with karl. Won 1 and lost 1. I liked that everyone in ranked takes it fairly seriously.. still some trolls ofc.
Completely agree. We will see. Looking forward to it. Night folks.
Got to play a few with cow and pete. 1 game pete randomed janna because he was afk (or a jerk). Thankfully, we had a shaco that was actually quite good. He carried the game and we won.
Last game of the night I had pete/cow/zen/pacov. We lost. Anyway, fun enough I guess.
Quick request - if you are just fing around, tell pacov in advance so he knows what's coming his way.
Off to bed, but just saw this.
If you don't know about mega 64, do yourself a favor and spend some time digging through their website. Lots of very funny stuff that you probably haven't seen.
That said, the following is a bit of satire on the video game industry, but its actually very, very accurate. Give you a nickle if you know who it is about.

Excited by the mastery changes. I like that there are some geared towards supports (+starting gold, gold/10). I think those along with receiving more $ for assists could encourage a bit less passivity with the bot meta. The new cleanse and surge/promote should shake things up a bit too, although Trynd with cleanse could be brutal! I'm a little surprised these are going into the next patch. Could be a rough week for stability.
I was 3/6 last night. Lots of trolling. Would love some premades tonight.
Yeah - I'm hoping the patch comes out soon. Lots of new things to try out - should make things very fresh.
Not sure how much I'll be on tonight... we'll see if my brain kicks into overdrive. Running on like 3 hours of sleep today. smeh
Hey, people.
After some breaks and comebacks with this game, I think, that now I'll be playing more again. However, I am not skilled, so usually end up doing quite bad in most matches... Then people blame each other, etc. I'd like to avoid this, because it really pushes me off from this game. So if anyone is willing to play with me, please add me "Darkliath" (US server). I wouldn't blame you for any mistakes and please don't do this to me. Any suggestions are fine as long as they are not given in a "curse" form.
I usually play support role (Taric, Janna), but lately trying to play Teemo (because he is cute). Can play anything else, but... That wouldn't be good for the team, I think.
I usually say that I am sleepy. Not always though, because someone like Peter might be asking me to play another or something. So I might play that another with my one eye sleeping and half brains working. I'll try to inform more often.
Yeah, instead of not playing I've decided to learn some of the champs I want to get competent with.
Veigar - AP
Nunu - Jungle
Tris - Ranged AD
Yorick - Just a wild and crazy guy!
Its funny to me seeing the folks griping about balance with this patch looming. "Mordekaiser will be good again!" "Mordekaiser will be worse!" IMO they're mostly just internally balancing in a way with the AD carries because... well, like its going to be a crazy shift in the game so no point in tweaking too much.
And no point in turning your nose up at my choice of champions I'm dialing in... you might be looking at the new T1 OP crew with all the changes happening.
Nah, dark - you've always been cool in my book and don't need to do anything like that. I was really just pissed because in the game I was referring to had folks that decided it would be fun to just fug around. I don't get mad if people I know are having a crap game. I have crap games. What I don't do is put 4 people at the bottom of the map, feed, refuse to respond to pings or requests for help mid or top, between 10-18 minutes of the game. That's kind of a dick move imo, and the reason for my angry little post. I enjoy when I get to play on your team, dark. Anyway, matter of fact, I was probably mostly upset because there were a series of games with trolls in them prior to the game with my pals and I didn't expect more trolling. That was kind of my WTF why even bother playing with pals moment.
I will add you Darkliath. I don't mind if you make mistakes as long as you learn from them I'm not going to pretend that I don't make mistakes. I play Taric and Janna a lot so if you have any questions about them, feel free to ask.
@Thundercles
I don't think those are bad choices at all.
Nunu can be pretty strong in lane too from what I've seen.
Veigars need a good team to protect them, but one good stun can change the game.
Tris-I'm interested to see the buffs/nerfs to the carries. I've always wanted to be good with Trist, but she takes a long time to hit her stride I find. She can really dominate later game though.
Yorick has great sustain and his ult has the potential to turn teamfights if used right. Underrated I would say. Interested to see if anything changes with top lane meta.
I never could get a good feel for Veigar - the timing on his stun and the placement for it kept throwing me. I don't even think I've played nunu more than once - I should again, though. Saw someone the other day using him really well. I don't think I've seen a good yorick yet, so perhaps you'll be the first!
I get what you are saying about balance, though. Really hard to say how big these changes are going to be. Just hoping it goes live today or tomorrow or w/e.
@re: veigar - how exactly does his stun work (event horizon)? For instance, if I cast it directly where a person is standing, it only nabs them if they cross the spell effect, right? If they just stand in the effect and don't cross it, then they are ok and not stunned? Do they get stunned if they walk into it? Or only if they are in it and then walk out of it? Strange ability. Thanks.
edit - oh, one of the most fun games I've played was with a taric and sion bottom along with a xin as a jungler. Love all those stuns.
The best way to use the stun is as a cage for a sedentary opponent, or to hit them with it when they're running. When they're running, slap down your nuke right where they will intersect the edge, and you can tag them during the stun. When they aren't moving, you can often force them into a stun by just plopping one down dead center. Either they move to dodge it, and probably get stunned, or they take the damage.
If you're good, you cast it at the right location to actually appear with the edge on them for an instant stun to go with the nuke.
